Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] SqueezeBox radio reboots on connection to *some* streams

2011-01-19 Thread toby10

Confirm which stream is causing the issue and post here so others can
try it.
mms format streams are a known issue, but usually only results in not
being able to play that stream, not Radio re-boots.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm without "popup"?

2011-01-19 Thread pallfreeman

No need to panic, folks.

Although the "home" button would seem to be the obvious candidate,
pressing the "back" button seems to do what I want, i.e. continue
playing and display the track info.

Sure, I always try pressing every button, in fact, every combination of
buttons, on new hardware, secure in the knowledge that no matter what I
do I couldn't possibly brick it. Don't you?

[SlimDevices: Radio] Radio performance - UI speed

2011-01-19 Thread azaz44

Hi there

I wonder if there are any tricks or hacks I can do to the Radio to
speed it up? It's somewhat sluggish and I like the UI to be reponsive.
The real issue comes if I play some WMA radio - then it's almost
unusable during playback. This knob wheel hardly makes any sense then.
With MP3 stream (or no playback at all) it's usable, but could be
better.

Post a WMA stream that is giving you issues and others can try and
compare.
I assume you are connecting your Radio to MySB.com online and not a
local SBS server on your computer?
Menu navigation on these players is a very long round trip to the
server, so if using MySB.com then scrolling through the menu's is going
from your player all the way to MySB.com then responding back to your
player.

Here's the URL:
http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s76058&formats=aac,ogg,mp3,wmpro,wma,wmvoice&partnerId=16&serial=5d80a7975edbcf661cdafebb759aea9d

But as far as I've tracked it down, it happens with all streams which
are "Windows Media", and is much better with MP3.

I'm using my own local server, but radio goes from Internet. As I
understand how it works, going to some menu option would contact the
server, but just scrolling with the wheel wouldn't. So this is about
the performance of the Radio hardware / CPU / OS, not any communication
I think. Scrolling is very slow when playing WMA, as is any other
action.

1. Goto "Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer" and check the checkbox
that shows all third party applets and select to install "Patch
Installer" applet and let it reboot
3. Goto "Settings/Advanced/Patch Installer" and check to install the
"Custom alarm window" patch
4. Goto "Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer" and select to install
"Custom Clock" applet.
5. Goto Settings/Screen/Screensavers/Custom Clock Settings/When Alarm"
and select the Custom Clock screen saver you like to show instead of
the default popup window.

You will have to use "stop" or "power" button to turn off the alarm.

Everytime, the station cause the radio to reboot.

It's playing fine on my Radio with no navigation slow downs. But I'm on
the US MySb.com server, not using SBS at the moment.
It's PR2 Dwojka Polskie Radio 89.5, correct? It is mms format which
can be glitchy.
You could also try this stream, see if it is any snappier for you,
should be the same station:
mms://stream.polskieradio.pl/program2

Is your server wired to your router?

Try this one (cut & paste into MySB.com > Remote Control > Internet
Radio > Tune in URL):

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio performance - UI speed

Yes, it's this radio. The other URL works, but the slowdown is the same,
and the stream seems to have same parameters. Good to hear it works fine
for you. What versions are you running?

For me it seems it's decoding what causes the problem, so it doesn't
matter what server I use. Pausing playback makes it better. My server
is wired to the router, all players run wireless (Radio, Boom and
SB3).

I'll try SBS 7.6 as Andy suggests as soon as I find time for upgrading.

Hi,

Thanks again for looking at the log. This morning at 6.30 the alarm
worked fine. I had made no changes. I have attached the log. The only
thing that is strange is that I still get that "network thread timeout"
message in the log:

Code:

  Jan 19 06:31:02 squeezeplay: WARN applet.AlarmSnooze -
AlarmSnoozeApplet.lua:420 _pollDecodeState(server): audioState is 1
  Jan 19 06:31:02 squeezeplay: WARN applet.AlarmSnooze -
AlarmSnoozeApplet.lua:241 alarm_sledgehammerRearm(_pollDecodeState): server
alarm in progress - audioState is 1
  Jan 19 06:31:08 squeezeplay: WARN net.thread - NetworkThread.lua:146
*network thread timeout for Task(SocketHttp {Our music_Request}(R))*
  Jan 19 06:31:11 squeezeplay: WARN applet.AlarmSnooze -
AlarmSnoozeApplet.lua:420 _pollDecodeState(server): audioState is 1

It is true the Radio is connected using Wlan - and the connection is
not the best - about 50% bars on the indicator. But then again - I
practically never have a problem in selecting radio station and it
plays with a few seconds.

I have now tried to change the starting of the alarm to be 6:28 instead
of 6:30 in case that it relates to a slow Internet stream exactly at
6:30 due to many Internet Radios using the stream at the same time.

I will post more progress! :-)

Jesper
