[SlimDevices: Radio] SB Radio turning on by itself?
For the past couple years my SB Radio has been occasionally turning itself on and playing without any intervention from me. It happens maybe once every 2-3 months, at random times of day or night. It started up when I was temporarily living in a condo complex, and I'm hoping that the cause was stray infrared signals from a neighboring condo, although that's just a hope without any evidence to back it up. Has anyone else had this experience? Or any ideas on alternative causes (eg, something with the server, something in the Radio's firmware, whatever)? Fwiw, a few weeks ago I moved back to a single-family house, presumably further out of range of neighbors' IR remotes, and also upgraded my LMS to 8.0 nightly. So far it hasn't mysteriously turned on, but a few weeks is too soon to declare victory. Audio system in transition while still relocating from halfway around the world. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Voume adjustment in Settings -Audio
I'll check when I get home and look at my SBC and my Radio, but I still think you're confusing the Replay Gain settings with the volume lock settings. They are not the same thing at all. And if you're not locking the Receiver's volume at 100% in LMS then you are almost certainly doing it in www.mysqueezebox.com (or maybe both places). Use the Controller to set your Receiver to No Volume Adjustment. Then login to www.mysqueezebox.com and select the Players tab, then select your Receiver on the left and the Audio tab. I'll betcha that your setting for the Receiver is Output level is fixed at 100%. Now select your Radio on the left, and you'll see there isn't any Audio tab at all. That's because the newer fat devices (Radio and Touch) can manage those settings on the player themselves. And for the Radio, it just doesn't make any sense to lock the volume at 100%. Who would want the volume at 100% with no way to turn it down via a remote control or the knob on the front? That is why the Boom also does not have the volume lock setting, even though it is a slim device. It's not a design error, but rather tailoring the options for what the player does. I'm not 100% sure, but there may be an interaction between the replay gain settings and the volume lock settings, because if volume is locked at 100% and replay gain is enabled and you get +db then bad things can happen. So maybe when you use the Controller to switch the replay gain for the Receiver to something other than No Volume Adjustment it un-does your volume lock setting, and then re-enables the volume lock when you turn replay gain settings off. That is easy enough for you to test. I am reasonably sure that the No Volume Adjustment (ie, replay gain) on your Radio does indeed do something, or at least is capable of doing something, depending on the source material. It certainly does something on my Radio. Specifically, it tells the Radio to ignore replay gain tags in the music files it plays. And anything you listen to on mysqueezebox.com is highly unlikely to have replay gain tags. So, it does nothing in the sense that it tells the Radio to ignore something that isn't there. But feed the Radio some music with some large-ish replay gain values in the tags and switch between No Volume Adjustment and Track Gain and you'll hear that it does indeed do something. Finally, as for not wanting to adjust levels in the digital domain, it is good to know that the Receiver and Radio output 24 bits, so if it is regular 16-bit material you're listening to then reducing the digital volume merely shaves off the padding zeroes that are filling out the last 8 bits. So on 16-bit material you can decrease the digital volume to 80% or even below without doing any damage to the signal. But if despite that you still just don't want to adjust levels in the digital domain, that's your business and your right. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98989 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Voume adjustment in Settings -Audio
Do you mean the setting under (via the web ui) Settings Player tab Audio Volume Adjustment/Replay Gain? That's the only setting I see that has a No Volume Adjustment setting. That setting does not lock the digital volume at 100%. Rather, it controls whether -- and if so, how -- LMS uses replay gain tags that may be in the file. I suspect that your Duet Receiver has Settings Player tab Audio Volume Control set to Output level is fixed at 100%, because that's the setting that locks the digital volume. That setting does not exist for the SB Radio because the Radio is an all-in-one box, for which users in most settings would not want to disable the volume control. Are you sending the Radio's signal to a pre-amp or something via the headphone output? While this is possible, it's not a normal use case. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98989 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

1) *ls -l* will give you the contents of the current directory *pwd* tells you the name of the current directory *cd [directoryname]* moves you from the current directory into [directoryname], one level lower. You can move multiple levels via *cd dir1/dir2/dir3* cd .. moves you up one level to the parent directory of the current directory 2) I'll leave this to someone else, because if I do the symlink command ln -s command by memory I get it wrong 25% of the time, and I don't have a *nix window in front of me to check the help file 3) Assuming you are in the directory containing the firmware file, the scp command would be *scp baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin root@Radio-ip-address:/dev* , where you substitute the Radio's real IP address in place of Radio-ip-address Or, if you want to work with WinSCP, before trying to connect to the Radio you need to change the protocol in the WinSCP dialog box. There is fairly widespread agreement that the SB Radio's design to require a server connection to trigger the alarm was a bad idea. Even the old SB Radio has enough smarts to do that on its own. Does the new UE Radio do any better on this score, ie, did they learn from their mistake on the SB Radio? Given the internet-centric approach of the UE Radio I would suspect not. Now that Pandora has audio commercials/ads between tracks, it would seem that Logitech and Pandora could loosen things up, but probably no one has paid attention to it. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96449 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Welcome to the forums, and don't take it personally. 53 views is pretty good for only 2-3 hours since your first post, but just may not have overlapped much with people who care about it. It looks like a clever solution, but for me it's easier to reach out and push the preset button than it is to find the remote. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96460 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I want to get rid of that annyoing bug. Thanks As noted several times previously, changing or deleting the MP3 file for the fallback will do absolutely nothing to make the Radio play the intended alarm more reliably. Some people talk about the alarm problem (ie, the regular alarm not firing, not the choice of the fallback alarm music) as if it is completely broken, when in fact it works just fine for a large share of users (including me). So the first-best option is to fix whatever it is in your setup that is preventing the selected alarm from firing. That said, the answers are: 1) if the regular alarm triggers, then you will get the regular alarm. If it doesn't trigger and instead goes to the fallback alarm that has been deleted, there will be no alarm. Sounds extremely risky to me. 2) if you run LMS, install the older version of the LMS software that corresponds to the firmware you want. All old versions of the server software are available at downloads.slimdevices.com. When you install the older LMS software you should be prompted to upgrade/update the Radio firmware, when in fact you will be rolling it back to a previous version. If you depend on mysqueezebox.com, then there is no way to rollback the firmware and keep it rolled back. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85079 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Moreover, I wrote it up once and managed to have it disappear in the forums editor, so as I write it a second time it will be briefer 1. download and install WinSCP on your pc. It is like Windows Explorer, except it has two sides: one is for the local computer (your pc) and the other is for the remote computer, which in this case is your SB Radio. Read the fine documentation on the site. 2. enable remote login on the SB Radio. Use the controls on the Radio itself to go to Settings Advanced Remote login and be sure the tick box is selected. Also note the IP address of your SB Radio (the IP address for the Radio, not the computer running LMS or your pc). Note that the username is root and the password is 1234 (without the quotation marks/inverted commas). 3. identify an MP3 audio file that you would like to be the fallback alarm instead of Fa Fa Fa. It should be no larger than the Fa Fa Fa file, which is around 300 KB. Copy it to a known folder on your pc and rename it alarm.mp3. 4. open WinSCP and fill in the information needed to connect to your Radio (IP address, username, password) in the various boxes. Then click whatever button is needed to connect to your Radio. The WinSCP I have routinely gives 1 or 2 error messages when trying to connect, but I am always able to click OK and it proceeds to connect. 5. on the local side of the window (usually the left, I think), navigate to the folder where you saved your alternative fallback alarm file in step #3. On the remote side of the window (usually the right), navigate to /usr/share/jive/applets/AlarmSnooze/. Then drag the alarm.mp3 file from the pc side to the Radio side. You will be prompted to overwrite the existing file -- say Yes. 6. disconnect from the Radio and test out your new fallback alarm 7. If/when your SB Radio gets firmware updates in the future, Fa Fa Fa may be reinstalled on the Radio. If this happens, repeat steps 4-6 above. Good luck. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85079 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Backup
The Favorites are not sync'd between Logitech Media Server (LMS) and mysqueezebox.com, no matter what the mysqueezebox.com Integration setting is. Access from one to the other is asymmetric. 1) If you save a Favorite while connected to LMS, then it is stored on LMS and invisible to mysb.com 2) If you save a Favorite while connected to mysb.com, it is saved on mysb.com. It is also visible to LMS and accessible via LMS by using the Favorites on mysqueezebox.com link at the bottom of your list of LMS favorites. A few of us have adopted the trick of putting all of our Favorites on LMS, uploading the favorites.opml file from LMS to a web server, and then making the URL for that opml file the only Favorite on mysb.com. That way you can keep LMS and mysb.com in sync more easily, you only have to remember to upload the fresh favorites.opml file every time you modify the Favorites in LMS. The SBs themselves can navigate the OPML file on mysb.com just fine, but the web-based remote control for mysb.com cannot parse the file correctly. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95772 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

If I understand your explanation correctly, the Radio is probably playing, but you cannot hear it because it is at home and you are at work. In other words, the mysqueezebox.com remote control is doing just that: controlling your SB Radio remotely. The mysqueezebox.com remote control is not a radio player itself, only a control for a hardware squeezebox. If you want to listen to all of those stations at your work pc, you could see about installing Squeezeplay, which is a software player that emulates the hardware Squeezeboxes, although it doesn't have all of the features of the hardware SBs (for example, some streaming services don't work with Squeezeplay). You can sync it to the Radio, although sync'ing with software players is rarely perfect. If the rooms are far enough apart then it shouldn't matter, but if you can hear both at the same time then the sync being off can be really annoying. SqueezePlay is free, perpetual-beta software from http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.7 If you have an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or Android device you may be able to buy one of the apps that supports SB streaming to those devices. When the update is completed, when you want to access your music system again (in my case a diskstation by Synology), it wants you to upgrade to version 7.6.1. again. Again, you cannot NOT choose this. It works in 7.6.1., but the time is off by 20 minutes (in 7.7.1. its correct) and you cant access mysqueezebox.com, because when you do, , well, start reading from the top again I read your thread. I'm more than happy never to log in to that mysqueezebox.com, even though it bothers me. But I'm kind of annoyed that the clock on version 7.6.1. is off (it's 20 minutes later than it is), while version 7.7.1. has the correct clock, but is utterly useless, since it immediately prompts you to downgrade when you try to access the diskstation. To me, there are two possible solutions. 1. Find a way to correct the time for version 7.6.1. and never enter mysqueezebox.com again. 2. Find a way for version 7.7.1. to not check for upgrades (or downgrades) when you try to access the diskstation. The latter would be preferable but since I'm not sure how to do that, I'm sticking with version 7.6.1., which works properly except for that incorrect clock. What to do? If your clock is off on 7.6.1 then it's because the clock is off on your NAS. Fix the time on your NAS's clock, then reboot the SB Radio, connect it to Squeezebox Server on your NAS and it should pick up the corrected time. You can always back out of a prompt for updating the firmware. Press and hold the back arrow button for a few seconds and it will take you back from the prompt. If you want to stop getting the prompts entirely then you should upgrade the server software on your NAS to the current version, which is 7.7.1. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Getting there slowly.... two more questions though.
1) It's not a bug, it's a feature. :-) Automatically switching to mysqueezebox.com would cause at least as many problems as it would solve. When the pc is off, the Radio doesn't know it's off, it just knows it can't find it on the network. Some people (mostly people using wifi) have problems with their Radio disconnecting from the pc for no apparent reason. Imagine if that aggravation was compounded by the Radio suddenly deciding to switch to mysqueezebox.com? Two suggestions for making the switch to mysqueezebox.com easier. One is to move the Switch to mysqueezebox.com menu item to the Home menu, so you don't have to burrow down into the obscure location that is the default. The other is to look into the Server Power Control plugin. It takes a little effort to set it up, but it can automatically suspend/hibernate/shutdown your server pc _and_ switch it over to mysqueezebox.com. You can set it to do this at a particular time of day, or after X minutes of no activity from the SB. 2) You get a player not found message in LMS if your player is connected to mysqueezebox.com. That is normal, because a player can only be connected to one server at a time, either your local LMS or mysqueezebox.com. The Radio is capable of displaying two different sizes, even from a single image file. If you turn the large knob a bit it will switch between the chopped off version you describe and a smaller image in which all of the cover art fits on the screen. It takes a little while to get the hang of just how to turn the knob to trigger the change -- a simple smooth turn doesn't usually do it for me. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92778 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio vs Squeezebox v1 WiFi Settings
Sorry if these are too obvious (ie, things you have already considered and discarded as not suitable for your needs), but two simple-but-guaranteed options are: 1) wire your SB1 and 1.5. If you can't pull ethernet cable easily in your location, consider homeplugs, which run ethernet over your power lines. 2) turn off the WEP encryption. WEP is trivial to hack, so it's only protecting you from the most casual of snoopers. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92817 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

There are other users on the forum who don't seem to be having your problem, but I don't know offhand if they are using wifi or wired. Also, I erred in saying that it would have to be the v1 and v1.5 that would be wired. Of course, you could do it the other way around, and wire the Radio but keep the older models running on WEP wifi. But I suppose the Radio probably isn't in a good location for that, either. This may not be as simple a solution as you are looking for, but a combination of KidsPlay and 'SrvrPowerCtrl plugin' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521) might do the trick. If KidsPlay can set the preset button for your preferred length of sleep delay (I don't know about this as I've never used KidsPlay), then you can use SrvrPowerCtrl to shutdown the pc (or suspend it, or hibernate it) automatically after the sleep timer runs out. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92620 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

1) yes, I'm lazy so I typed mysb.com as shorthand for mysqueezebox.com. If you were to type it in a web browser you need to use the correct name: mysqueezebox.com. 2) LMS is Logitech Media Server. That's the name of the Squeezebox server software since version 7.7.0. But I guess if you're still running 7.6.1 then you're still using SBS (Squeezebox Server).
