Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox - Searching for Squeezebox.com

2014-10-20 Thread hip2b2

garym

I am always embarrassed when the suggested solution is try rebooting
your modem/router as it very often works and is something that does
cross my mind even before I my questions.

Once again it -seems- (italics only due to the fact that under house
rules the radio needs to be re-certified by my wife before it can be
classified as usable) that the Squeezebox is up and running.

Many Thanks

[SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox - Searching for Squeezebox.com

2014-10-19 Thread hip2b2

Came home from vacation, powered up my trusty SB and nothing except a
screen message Searching for Squeezebox.com. Connection is made then
lost with the message window sometimes showing up.

Anyone else having connection issues?

Thanks is advance.

My thought too, (I've gone the reset route already) except that the
firmware shows as 10.0.0r16857 and when I go to the
http://uesmartradio.com/player/viewPlayers site and select Add a new
radio it connects to the device. Even after the reset the Remote Login
menu item is available. It's a chimera.

I have to mention, that while the replacement radio came out of a
factory sealed box several of the protective stickers looked like they
installed by a 3 year old. Perhaps this was a factory refurbished
rather than a new replacement radio as I had been promised; and perhaps
the guys at the factory did not quite do their job in checking
functionality. If this is so, it would appear that it is possible to
cock-up the conversion process. I can't think of any other
explanation.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Upgrade SB Radio to UE Radio

2013-04-04 Thread hip2b2

I just received my replacement Smart Radio and started to start the
conversion process. But, (and this is a BIG but) I am unable to
activate the Developer menu. I click into the Settings menu then
simultaneously press Home and FFWD () and nothing, the Developer menu
remains hidden.

Looking at the Diagnostics menu I see that I have Version 10.0.0
r16857 firmware and my hardware revision is 7.

Any help would be appreciated.

2013-04-04 Thread hip2b2

OK I got my replacement Smart Radio but it's going back tomorrow with
replacement to the replacement to follow (unless some brighter person
than me has a fix).

My problems are various
1. The radio will not auto update on Factory Reset beyond firmware
10.0.0
2. Settings Advanced Software Update menu does not have a software
update option; just Cancel or Help
3. The Developer menu will not open (Settings Home + FFWD) but a menu
item Settings Advanced Remote Login item is available which enables an
SSH connection
4. Opened SetupFirmwareUpgradeMeta.lua file but the --
jiveMain:addItem(met... line is already uncommented
5. baby_7.7.2_r9663 is visible in Software Update menu but fails to
install (it appears that the radio is searching for the file on the SR
server.
6. There is an Applet Installer menu available, but my understanding is
that UE smart Radio does not offer an applet feature?

Any help would be appreciated.

 Hi Guys,

First of all I'd like to share with you my disappointment with the UE

this little music box would be better than it's predecessor but it's
quite the opposite. A lot of cool features have been removed and the one
I wanted the most with the UE Smart Radio wasn't there: playing music
 locally using my Synology NAS.

I decided to downgrade the firmware to baby 7.7.2 (r9663), thanks to
some useful posts I found on this forum. So far, I've encountered no
issues at all. Here's the information of my UE:

If it can be of any help for someone else, here's what I did:

1 - Start the UE Smart Radio
2 - Go into the Settings menu and press button Home and ffwd(). A
new Developers menu will appear at the bottom.
3 - Go into the Developers menu and enable remote access (SSH)
4 - Reboot the UE Smart Radio by holding down the power button and
 pressing it again
5 - ssh on your smart radio (You can find the IP address somewhere in
the Settings menu) using root as the user and 1234 for the password
6 - You need to edit a lua script to add the FirmwareUpgrade option.
 Do the following:

Code:

   #vi
/usr/share/jive/applets/SetupFirmwareUpgrade/SetupFirmwareUpgradeMeta.lua

 Now find the following line

 - -- jiveMain:addItem(meta:menuItem('appletSetupFirmwareUpgrade',
 'advancedSettings',
 UPDATE, function(applet) applet:showFirmwareUpgradeMenu() end,
 115))-

You need to uncomment this line by deleting the --. Type :wq! (Save
 and quit)

7 - Reboot the UE Smart Radio by holding down the power button and
 pressing it again
 8 - Download the 7.7.2 Revision 9663 firmware
 http://update.mysqueezebox.com/update/firmware/7.8.0/baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin
9 - Copy the firmware on your Smart Radio in directory /dev (using scp
or any other software) since it's the only partition with enough disk
 space
10 - Create a symlink using the following command so the smart radio
 sees the new firmware:

Code:

   #cd /media
   #ln -s /dev/baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin

 11 - Go in to Settings-AdvancedSettings-FirmwareUpgrade (something
like that) and do the upgrade
12 - When the squeezebox (!) has finished rebooting, you will be happy
and I strongly suggest that you do a factory reset (Go in Settings -
 Advanced - Restore factory settings)

Just wondering; is there any reason to remove the SYMLINK (#rm symlink)
as the final step? It would seem unnecessary once the device is
converted to a Squeezebox.

Thanks

called my ISP to see what the problem was and it was me. A little
diagnostics on their side and they suggested it was the router. A
router reboot and router reset (the little button in the back of the
router) and and I was up and running. Was that the source of my
problem? Who knows? I do know that the router is 5 or more years old
and stuff breaks. Will I buy a new router? Probably if I have any
connection issue again. Do I regret sending my Squeezebox back for
replacement? That is a story for after I get the Smart Radio it back.

I have played with various SSH commands per previous posts to
familiarize myself with Putty - so far, so good. I must confess that I
have no idea where the authors of the posts got the command lines codes
from but that is not really at issue.

Right now I am struggling with 3 things and hope for some
guidance/help:

1- Where (what command(?)) do I find the directory structure of the
Squeezebox and the Smart Radio and how do I access the the required
directories?
2- Per Post: Via ssh, I created a symlink in the /media folder - I
know what a symlink is but not in this context. What to do?
3- Re. SCP: How do I uploaded the old firmware (baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin)
to the /dev folder? - I have never used SCP; I installed WinSCP but get
the following error message: Cannot initialize SFTP protocol. Is the
host running a SFTP server?

As always I look forward your comments.

I would contact customer service, explain others have been treated

you have nothing to lose, and a Smart Radio (which apparently can be

I found symlink instructions on another thread
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?96256-Upgrade-SB-Radio-to-UE-Radio

If I understand correctly the symlink only has to be set in the event of
partition space limitations and baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin file needs to be
installed in a directory other than /media. Assuming that the .bin file
is installed in /dev (it's a different partition with enough room) the
ssh code would be:

cd /media
ln -s /dev/baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin

Hope I got this right, I will test and confirm once I receive my new

[SlimDevices: Radio] Downgrade UE Smart Radio to Squeezbox - For Dummies Edition?

2013-03-17 Thread hip2b2

A very sad failure of my 4 month old SqueezeBox (SB) Wifi card results
in Logitech sending me a replacement UE Smart Radio (SR). I had
upgraded another SB to the newer platform and was not happy so I
retrograded it back to the 7.7.n firmware. That is how the situation
will remain until there are some significant improvements to SR.

I accepted the exchange once I saw that is is possible to convert the SR
to SB but I find that not being the smartest of bears I am more than a
little confused with instructions that span many pages of many threads
(a little info here and a little info there).

I am hoping that some generous soul will put together the definitive
guide to this conversion.

Hope to hear back soon.
