Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio fails firmware update to 7.5.1 r9218
After sending my Radio back, I waited a while, found they dropped the ball, and after telling Logitech Support the ball was in their court, they replied: - I see the order and the approval for sending your replacement radio. The replacement order dates December 13. Looks like we are out of stock for this unit. I can order your unit to be replaced with a UE Smart Radio. The hardware is the same except the Smart Radio includes a battery package. Please note the firmware is different.- After a few exchanges I called them and told them I didn't want a UE Smart Radio. I wanted a Radio that works with Server 7.5.x. They repeated that they could not send me such a Radio because they were no longer made. I asked for a refund and they arranged it. I asked them again: Did I get a defective model or are newer Radios incapable of downgrading the firmware? The tech said I got a defective Radio and that all devices except the UE downgrade the firmware. I got confirmation that my refund is on its way. I must say that the Logitech -phone- support was very good. Then I turned around and bought another Radio from Amazon. I received it today and configured it successfully with these steps: 1. I disconnected my Internet connection from my router 2. I connected the new Radio to the wireless 3. It tried to connect to mysqueezebox.com and failed because of step 1. 4. I connected the Radio to my server, and it downloaded the firmware (YES!), installed it and rebooted. 5. Once again it tried and failed to connect to mysqueezeserver.com 6. I tested the Radio and it worked fine 7. I reconnected my router to the Internet, restarted the Radio and it still works Perhaps steps 1 7 above are not necessary, but I suspect that my troubles with my defective Radio happened because I signed in to mysqueezebox.com before attempting to downgrade the firmware, and I know it downloaded -something- and rebooted at that time. Although Logitech Support said otherwise, I wonder if the download from mysqueezebox.com installed some type of UE irreversible setting which prevented the downgrade. Regardless, I now have a working Radio and can enjoy awesome music classic Squeeze devices. rich.herbs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58334 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97436 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

maggior wrote: Did your replacement radio have the same issue? I'm experiencing the same issue with a Radio I just purchased and it is driving me crazy. Maggior, I haven't received my replacement yet, but when I do, I will post the results immediately. It seems too much of a coincidence that newer radios don't download the firmware, so I'm afraid that my replacement will have the same problem. On the other hand, the two tech supports that I talked to were adamant that there were no changes to the Radio and ALL models should downgrade properly, so I'm hoping this is not a deliberate change that would lock out those of us who like the 7.5x version. rich.herbs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58334 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97436 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio fails firmware update to 7.5.1 r9218
Based on some comments in the post http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?97331-Downgrade-UE-Smart-Radio-to-Squeeze-OSp=727213viewfull=1#post727213, I thought it would be easier to call Logitech and ask them if newer radios could be downgraded. The phone tech support walked me through the usual debugging steps, and once stumped by the problem offered to replace the unit. The tech mentioned that based on the serial number, my problem Radio is a very recent manufacture. When I asked him if newer Radios had downgrade restrictions (as suggested by pippin in the post referenced above) he replied they did not and should all downgrade properly. Thanks to all who replied to my post. I will wait for the replacement Radio and hope it will downgrade properly. rich.herbs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58334 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97436 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
[SlimDevices: Radio] Radio fails firmware update to 7.5.1 r9218
Ive got a Transporter, 2 Squeezebox Classic and one Radio working flawlessly with a 7.5.1 server running on Ubuntu 10.04. I just bought a Touch and a second Radio. I connected the Touch to the wireless network, and it immediately updated and rebooted itself. Upon reboot, it announced that a software update to 7.5.1 r9812 was required. I started the update which completed properly and the Touch has worked fine ever since. So far so good. When I started the Radio, it downloaded 7.7.2 r9663 from mysqueezebox.com and rebooted. Next it connected to my server and announced that a software update to 7.5.1 r9812 was required. I selected Begin Update and: - The download stops at zero percent - The network connection icon blinks orange - The screen announces that the Update failed At this point, the Radio shows up in the server status (proper IP address, firmware 7.7.2-r9663), but does not play music from the server and continually suggests the update, which fails every time. Heres what I tried without getting different results: - Wired connection - same failure - Test network - No problems detected - Tried a reset to factory settings - Tried a restart with the Rew button pressed to reset the firmware - Looked at the Radios Software Updates and found: * Update 7.7.2 r9663 - [mysqueezebox.com] * Update 7.5.1 r9812 - [my server name] - Verified that the proper firmware files were installed on the servers firmware folder I assume from browsing the forum that my mistake was to connect to mysqueezebox. com and download the 7.7.2 update and now it will not revert to the older firmware. My 5 other Squeeze devices are working fine and for various reasons, I want to avoid upgrading the server version. Is there a way to troubleshoot why the Radio fails to download the firmware file from my server? rich.herbs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58334 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97436 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

castalla wrote: Could be wrong but I think the Radio requires at least 7.6 LMS Thanks for the quick reply. The Logitech Hardware Comparison (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_comparison) states the Radio requires 7.4 or above. In addition, it's only my second Radio that's stuck in the firmware limbo, my first one works fine. rich.herbs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58334 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97436 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Mnyb wrote: You could try to update it directly from mysqueezebox.com ,but you migth not want to as you seems to prefer an old version of the server ? You are right that I'd prefer (for various reasons) staying with 7.5 for now. I've got one Radio working well, and I'm hoping I can get the second to work also. As for updating directly from mysqueezebox.com, I think that's what got me into trouble in the first place when the Radio downloaded and installed the 7.7.2 firmware. Or is there a way to point the Radio to a downgrade to the older firmware at mysqueezebox.com? The Radio seems to not recognize the 7.5.1 firmware file that is available on my server and I don't know how to troubleshoot the problem. rich.herbs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58334 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97436 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Mnyb wrote: You can try to start the upgrade manually from the server from the same menu ,does this works differently than trying it automatically ? I didn't know you could upgrade from the server. At this point, I'm initiating the upgrading from the Radio which is trying to upgrade from the firmware file stored on the server (the upgrade screen on the Radio refers to my server name, and I checked the server folder to verify that the proper firmware file is there). I did see a posting (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Custom.baby.version) about custom Radio firmware updates, but it was too esoteric for me. I looked at the server options but I did not see an option to initiate manual upgrades from the server. Is this a command line function? rich.herbs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58334 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97436 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

pippin wrote: I don't think there will be dramatic differences between the hardware. One thing you should be aware of, though (and which I just learned) is that Logitech seems to have started selling a 2nd revision of the Radio sometimes this year. For this revision, only firmware versions for LMS 7.7.1 and newer are available, I'd guess this is likely also what's in the UE Radio pippin, can you point me to more information about this Radio revision? I'm having trouble loading firmware 7.5.1 on my new Radio, but if I can verify via the serial number or some other information that I have one of the 2nd revision of the Radio that refer to, then I will give up my attempts. rich.herbs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58334 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97331 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
