Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Nightmare

2012-01-06 Thread Knobbyclark

To solve my own problem I loaded ww-drt onto my 3 Buffalo Access Points,
removed WDS, setup each with the SAME SSID, Security settings and each
on a different channel 1,6 & 11. Both my radios are now working - 22
tracks without interruption (previously lucky to get 4) other one 30. I
would say that the issue IS with the Radios as my other units (Duet &
Touch) worked fine

I have recently started to experience the same problem (in the last 4-6
weeks or so)- ONLY to my Radio (other SB devices work fine) - very
annoying happens every day after day 30 mins or less of play - just red
icon and then runs very very slow - only method is to power off and on
and then it carries on playing. Also no other wifi devices (non-SB)
have issues either. Running 7.71

I have had the problems with my sbr: worked for some minutes, then
connection lost, perhaps a reconnect after a couple of minutes...
sometimes no reconnect for hours. 100% Signal...

But then i changed my WLAN settings in the router/accessPoint to
802.11n+g, channel 9 (no longer automatic channel) and since then i
havent had a connection loss any more!

Interesting, any more news on this issue as since I bought my touch I
have had the radio dropping the signal and showing the red wifi icon.

I have HH3 and the only way back on for the radio is a reset.

SB3, Touch and two booms remain connected throughout!!

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Nightmare

2011-09-03 Thread asdti

Completely agree - this problem WILL grow. At the moment the HH3 is new
and therefore not so common, but it is the default router from the UK's
largest ISP, so will become more common as time goes on.

Sadly BT use an automatic management system for connection speed. Every
time you disconnect or reboot a router, the system sees that as a
disconnection and a possible line fault. It then reduces your speed to
try to compensate. Many of us try hard not to reboot or disconnect
routers for this reason...

The big problem is that, when you don't disconnect or reboot, BT's
fibre connection is excellent - I get a solid 35MB down, morning AND
night, unlimited and uncapped (and with well over a month's continuous
uptime as I type). So you can see why I am loathe to reboot!

No other device has a problem connectiong other than Android 2.1 and
2.2 (which BT claim to have cured with an update). No other Squeezebox
device has a problem ( I have 2 SB3's, 2 Duets, 1 Boom and 1 Touch as
well as 1 controller on my iPhone. All connect immediately and with no
problem - other than the current issues with the Touch and software
7.6)

Thank you so much. It is crazy but by plugging in an "old" router solves
the problem.

All SBradios working. This is a major problem for logitech and as
someone raised with BT being the largest ISP in the UK Logitech need to

I switched to BT about 18 months ago as they were offering the best
connection speed in my area. I had read horror stories about the Home
Hub so I didn't bother using it, I just put the BT settings into my old
router (if it ain't broke...!) I get very few problems from my SB
setup.

My advice to you would be to buy a Netgear DG834G v3 (available on eBay
for about £20) and connect to that. I suggest v3 in particular because
the wireless aerial is removable and can be replaced by a higher gain
version. This is not the case with later models.

When everything is working you can sell the Home Hub and with any luck
come away with a small profit!

I think the WiFi icon colors are not functioning correctly, so you may
have actually been connected to your router with a Red icon.
I've seen this twice on my Radio recently on two different WiFi's. I
select network, spinny circle says it connected, but then the next
screen is "try again" with a Red icon.
With that Red icon I go to the Home menu, select MySB or SBS and it
connects to either immediately, so obviously it had to be connected to
the WiFi. *shrug*

I'd at least try a different WiFi router off of the BT, see if it
solves the issue. You can always return the new router if it solves
nothing.
If you do this make sure you turn OFF the BT's WiFi so it won't
interfere with the new WiFi signals.

Not quite the same problem, but my radio was prompting for a firmware
upgrade.

After installing the "upgrade" it couldnt find the wireless network at
all, displayed the red icon. Rebooted it and still it didnt find
anything. I then did a restore to factory settings under the advanced
menu, it then found the wireless again! Then prompted for an upgrade
again, which I installed and this time its worked.

Only downside is now I've lost all my settings and have to put them all
back in again :(

Viewing my original post it is gratifying in a funny sort of way that
other users are experiencing the same problem. My issues were partially
resolved by going back to WEP security everything worked apart from
periodically having to reset the router as the SB Boom was not picking
up the SB Server. The radio stations frequently lost connection but
things were much better.

Today SB Radio playing up coinciding with latest update. No signal,
swapped with another SB Radio and that worked in the location. SB Radio
which was playing up showed red. Factory reset then ok. Tonight had to
do a router reset again and music library seems to have gone pear
shaped.

I love this system having thought nothing could better the DJ music
system but now wife has stopped me recommending it to others. I am
convinced it is a BT hh3 issue maybe there is some credence in limit of
wireless devices. Here is hoping someone can sort

Can I just say I have exactly the same issue and it frustrates the %$@*
out of me!

I had to go back to BT (Sky broadband was down to .5 meg) and was
expecting some screw-up as is the BT way, but the install went
swimingly and now have 36Mg broadband :-)

But then.. Squeezebox radio just keeps failing as described
(Transporter, Boom and SB3 all work fine) - I have done everything
under the sun but now it seems have to go out and buy a £100 router.
Who to blame - crap BT box, another issue from Squeezebox (reverted
back to SBS 7.1 as 7.6 is another unreliable release - flacs cannot be
found for me!).

I would love to recommend this to friends (I have 5!) but just can't -
its just not reliable or usable other than for techheads - a massive
opportunity for Logitech will be lost...

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Nightmare

2011-07-20 Thread balbs

Having the same problem with Radio and BTHomehub3- constant drop outs
etc. I naively thought the Homehub would have better Wi-fi performance
than an old Netgear box - silly me... it all points to some sort of
incompatability although on another thread someone has posted that upon
ringing BT they knew something about this and did a fix remotely for
Squeezeboxes which may or may not be a connected issue (excuse pun) -
anyone else heard of this?

In the meantime don't throw the radio out! As others have said its
relatively easy to hook another router up to act as the main wireless
point (it has to act as a switch but most modern ones do) and just use
the Homehub for the line - all very daft when we are all trying to save
energy- surely somewhere there is a permanent fix - as others have said
BT is the main ISP provider and a lot of people are moving for the
increased speed and BTFON and Zone.

Instuctions (and do this with the Homehub connected via ethernet)

Connect from one of the Home Hub's Ethernet ports to the main port on
your other router/switch

Disable wi-fi on the Home Hub

Log in to the Home Hub interface and turn off DHCP. On the Hub 1, go to
'Advanced > Configuration > IP Addresses'. On the Hub 2 go to 'Settings
> Advanced > Home Network > IP addresses' and deselect the "Use DHCP
Server" option.

Doing this should make your other router responsible for assigning IP
addresses and wireless connectivity (so you'll need to enable DHCP and
wireless on the other router).

On your second router turn OFF DHCP, then reboot (unplug) all devices
in your network. Now plug in the devices starting with BT, then extra
router, then players, waiting for each to completely boot up before
proceeding to the next device. DHCP is what assigns the IP's so having
two devices assigning IP's means you are either creating two different
networks (one on each router) or they are creating duplicate IP's to
several devices.

BT block outgoing connections to certain ports? Seriously?
That's evil.
If you're paying for the internet you damn well should be getting the
internet and not just that part of the internet that's running servers
on port numbers that BT likes the look of.

That's exactly right. I have connected 15 devices with no problem

issue.
I noted the 15 only because it was being speculated that the BT HH3
router limited connections to 10.

As an aside for any HH3 users, I did note that the BT Homehub does
block port 3483 by default (needed for SBS communication with
mysqueezebox.com) and opened this port (now confirmed as OK on mySB

Still no joy with the radio, though :-(

Update:

At the time I was trying to connect my Radio wirelessly (and failing) I
would've had 10 devices connected to the BT Hub, Googled around and
found this:

I don't know whether it's true or not that the BT Hub can only support
10 devices, but at the moment, having only 6 devices connected to the
Hub, I removed the ethernet cable from my Radio and connected
wirelessly to SBS no problem. The Radio has been playing a random song
playlist for over 2 hours now.

Thanks for responding.
It may eventually get fixed.
In the mean time maybe you could set up another wireless access point
for the SBRs to use. Many WiFi routers can be configured to act solely
as WiFi access-points. See for example:
http://www.speedguide.net/articles/how-to-set-a-wireless-router-as-an-access-point-2556
but my experience is that it doesn't always work.

Given that BT have such a large market share in the UK and the HH3 is
their only 'active router'(the only one they give out now) this problem
is likely to grow and grow, I think

I did, Brian - it seems to be an issue with HH3 and Squeezebox Radios.
HH3 has some issues with Android too (they cured it with a firmware
change). Just that BT is the UK's largest ISP and the HH3 is their only
router for new connections. I have this shiny new 40MB connection
(fibre) which works great on all my SB products (Boom, Touch, Duet,
iPhone app, SB3) except the radio (which did connect and then -
overnight - lost it).

I will try the other suggestion re. security over the weekend when I am
in the house for long enough.

Thanks for your help so far folks. Any other suggestions in the
meantime gratefully received...

Weird! have you tried all the various security options (start with
security off and work up). Not saying a lower level of security is an
answer, just it might pinpoint the issue.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Nightmare

2011-07-10 Thread kidstypike

I recently changed ISP from Vigin Media (cable) to BT (ADSL) and I'm
using their BT Hub 3. I never had any problems with my Radio used
wirelessly with Vigin Media (Linksys router), but now the Radio is a
nightmare trying to connect wirelessly with the BT Hub, so I'm using
Homeplugs with no problems.

Homeplugs aren't an option if you're using your radio on batteries and
moving it around, but just to let you know, there seems to be a problem
with the Radio and BT HH3. My other Squeezeboxes are all connected
wirelessly no problems at all.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Nightmare

2011-07-10 Thread Davidg1

It sounds very odd.

I would try making sure the router is configured specifically for WPA2
mode, rather than "Auto". That can cause problems.

I would certainly enter the key manually and not use push button
auto-configuration. That has never worked reliably for me.

If neither of these work it is possible that you simply have a duff
radio. I'd call support. Logitech are normally very good at replacing
units if they cannot resolve the fault. I cannot believe the SBR is
simply incompatible with the BT hub.

Any chance, that this particular Radio is just broken. Lose WiFi

Or run an additional wireless router that doesn't have this issue with
SBR. I realize that it doesn't fix the problem but you do have more
options than just junk the radio.

Maybe SSH into the SBR and try to get more info on what's happening
when it drops the connection and cross reference that with Linux wifi
type forums (eg openwrt) where stuff like that is discussed a lot. Not
for the feint of heart though.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Nightmare

2011-07-09 Thread asdti

Hi guys,

None of that works :-(

The boom I have, the duets and the touch (and the iPhone apps) all
connect fine and with no issues (I'm listening to touch now). The
radio, simply, will not connect (red internet icon on screen). It does
this irrespective of wireless channel, how many times I clear and
re-enter the password or if I use "push-button connect" (as supported
by the router). It DID connect once, then overnight lost the
connection. I tried deleting the IP allocation in the router's table, I
tried allocating it manually, then automatically again. I tried 'restore
factory settings' on the radio (a pain because I have to take the
battery out). Nada. Nothing will allow me to connect my radio.

All I can do is to completely junk my radio and use the Boom instead?

Try getting each SBR to connect to WiFi on a different channel(looks

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Nightmare

2011-07-05 Thread Davidg1

Check if your router is using channel 13. This could happen if set to 13
or set to auto, when it might "roam" to channel 13.

The Radio, out of the box, has broken support for channels 13 and 14.
It can be hacked to fix it relatively simply if it is the issue. but
first you need to check if your router is using channel 13 when the
problem occurs.

As I understand it the little wifi connection icon (on the display
screen, right side of the status bar) will turn from white (connected)
to blue (not connected to SBS) to red (no wireless connection)

What red light exactly?

There are no lights on my SBR.

Hi Carolben

I can't help but I can empathise.

I have the exact same problem with a BT HH3 and SBR.

Connects fine for a day, then Red light and no way to reconnect at all
(system tries to connect and fails) without resetting everything.

Can I second the frustration (+1)

Anyone know of a fix? Remember, BT HH3 is the standard router now
supplied by Britains biggest ISP so this issue isn't going to go away

[SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Nightmare

2011-05-06 Thread Carolben

I own 3 SBR, 1 SBB and Duet. I have changed to BT and have a Home Hub
3.

All connected for a day or so then the light goes to red or blue on the
SBR.

Some days able to connect to Radio

Ports opened / DHCP enabled / *Cannot *disable MAC Filtering not
available in Home Hub

Fixed Channel

BT & Logitech not really helpful. Reset the system and all works for an
hour or a day then red/blue light.

The system worked really well for a while but started getting cranky so
I changed the internet provider to get a powerful router. Any help much
appreciated.
