All of your non working devices were wireless. The router will have auto-changed channels to avoid the neighbours network. I agree that a fixed channel is better. I think rebooting the Router (after a short pause) may still use the same IP addresses that have been assigned previously. Doing a Router reset (or switching off the Router for a long, 24hr, period) assigns new IP addresses. The long wait means the addresses are dropped by the Router. Ronnie. The router's DHCP server dishes out IP addresses on a lease basis based on the connecting devices MAC address. The length of the lease is usually 24 hours from the devices request for a lease but may be a different period. On a Windows machine you can force the commencement of a new lease by typing ipconfig /renew at a command prompt. You will get the same IP but for a new lease period. To see what your DHCP server has dished out in full type ipconfig /all I am pretty certain that rebooting an SB forces a renew request. It does on a PC. In fact I am certain. NB. Wireless and wired connections have different MAC addresses. *Vortexbox LMS 7.8 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets *Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 -> Sony TA FE 320 -> Sennheiser RS 130 & B P7 *Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104523 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio and controller stopped
I didn't say yesterday that while I was running the radio on LMS from my PC, I could see the radio and control it from the LMS web interface. This is while neither the controller nor the Android app could see the radio, and neither the radio nor the controller could see or connect to my wireless network. I'm assuming it's a software issue affecting either the router or the MySqueezebox.com - but I've no hard evidence for that. Today, I thought I might change the router password, just for something to try. However, first I tried again to connect the controller manually to my wireless network. Much to my surprise, it found my network and connected after I entered the router password. What's more, I could switch the radio on with the controller, as it should. Then, I tried to switch the radio from the Ethernet network to the wireless network. This time, it appeared to find a network with my old network name. The devices must cache the name of the network it was last connected to. So I put the new name in manually and it found the network first time. Everything is now working normally but I have done nothing that actually affected the change from working to not working to working again. It must have been an external influence from either TalkTalk or Squeezebox, but neither have owned up. I think I will contact Logitech tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks to everyone for all attempts to help. It has been extremely frustrating for me but it is really gratifying to know that there are people with real expertise that are willing to help. You couldn't have known, and neither could I, that all our efforts have been sabotaged by some outside body. Agree with bpa. Definitely set a fixed WiFi G channel (1 or 6 or 11), don't use "auto". Also reboot (just unplug and plug back in) the router once a month. A router is just a computer running very task specific software. Reboots are necessary for any computer, every now and then. :) toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104523 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

For me it seems that you are trying too much things at a time. You said the Radio is connected to the network by cable now. That's fine. So keep it like that until you succeed in connecting it with LMS. But first, try connecting the Radio to mysqueezebox.com from the Radio's menu and try playing some internet radio station. Report back if this works. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104523 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio and controller stopped
Thanks for the expertise offered - obviously much greater than mine. I've now tried connecting with encryption switched off but still no effect. I tried manually connecting to my network name (SSID) with no encryption, WPA and WPA2 (with encryption on), but nothing. Encryption information is as follows (from router info): "Security mode: WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK. Encryption mode: TKIP+AES". The router shows all devices that have been connected and highlights those currently connected. The radio now shows as connected (now by cable) but the controller isn't. The LMS computer is connected by Ethernet cable to the router but LMS has not been running. It made no difference when I enabled it. The router info shows "2.4 GHz Transmission mode: 802.11b/g//n Channel: Auto. 5 GHz Transmission mode: 802.11a/n/ac" Channel: Auto. I can't now try diagnostics on the controller, Since I reset it, it will only let me try to connect to a network. As I can't do that, it's completely useless. If I try diagnostics on the radio and select "Wireless Info", it just shows as "Not connected" - and, of course it won't connect. As I said earlier, it shows my network name, but shows no signal strength. I'm fairly sure that is what the controller showed before I reset it. -"Another idea ping them or connect to them with ssh"- How do I do that? I have now been in contact with TalkTalk but they were no use at all. I was just told they couldn't help because it was a Squeezebox issue. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio and controller stopped
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I'll try to comment on each. 1. The router does operate on 2.4Ghz (and 5 GHz) 2. I'm reluctant to turn off encryption until I've exhausted everything else. I'm afraid I'll have to reset everything for all devices when I switch it back on again. 3. I have restarted my PC (and everything else). LMS has been off for a long time, and when I did start it up, nothing had changed and it made no difference. The log file would not have been recording when the radio and controller stopped. 4. I have now tried an Ethernet connection to the radio works. That's good. However, the controller is wireless only, of course, so that still doesn't work. 5. The router software gives the IP addresses of everything connected. 6. I tried repeatedly to connect the radio and controller manually. The radio does still shows my wireless network but won't connect but I suspect that information is stored on the device. It was the same on the controller but when I did a full reset on that and tried to connect manually, my network did not show but the neighbour's does. It must be seeing that in real time because it went off again and a wireless printer appeared and disappeared as well. I tried to connect the the neighbour's network just as a trial but was encrypted with a non-supported type. So it seems that my wireless network has vanished as far as the Squeezebox kit is concerned, but not for my Nexus, or my router. It must be a hardware/software problem somewhere. Ronnie, Yes. I've reset the router but that doesn't work. I've tried the WiFi Analyser you suggested (on my wireless Nexus) and everything looks good. I don't understand the numbers but -30 - -40 dB must be OK. There's nothing else locally that interferes or comes close. All the channels shown, including the one currently selected. have 10 stars. Having done the factory reset on the controller, that now still refuses to connect to my network or even to see it. The router settings look right. I tried disabling the router firewall but that made no difference I'm wondering if this has anything to do with Talk Talk, my broadband supplier, but I don't see what they could change, apart perhaps from the firewall, and I don't understand the other settings to try playing with those. But why would any of these suddenly need changing? I have other Squeezebox devices but these are still packed away after a recent move and I've had LMS disabled on my PC. I started LMS just on the off-chance that by selecting the 'My Music' option on the radio, it might just kickstart it into life. No chance. The radio still tells me it can't connect to my network. The controller can't even find it. I just don't know what to do.
