I had a request to have a clickable form showing the algal bloom
colours (yes we spell color colour) for a pond across the month. When
the cell is clicked it calls a form showing the details of the test
results for the day in that month. So using an Enhanced DBGrid I've
manipulated the data into a table that displays the days, colours based
on the major algal type for the ponds. See attached.

Nothing hard you might think but it's easy to capture the current cell
value but what if you want to capture not only the current cell value
but the value in another column on that row at the same time no matter
where the user clicks within the grid or how they order it.

GETPROPERTY TABLE_COLUMN[algal_calendar->pondid] TEXTVALUE vpondt

Even if the user reorders any of the columns or data it still gets the
correct key ID value no matter where on the row the user clicks.

Anyway there will be people out there that know this but just in case
you didn't that was my solution.

RE: [RBASE-L] - Announcement: R:BASE "Community" Facebook Group

2021-12-14 Thread 'Jim Belisle' via RBASE-L
Thanks, Bill. That is a great link.

But I think that some of the list are not sure that using a Facebook group will
be as user friendly when it comes to saving threads into folders like you can
do with an email account. And as someone already pointed out, some do not want
to have Facebook on all the time.

I know for me, the thing I do not like about the change is that email is so
easy to manipulate whereas I am not sure that will be the case with Facebook.
With email, you are already using your email, the group feed comes
automatically so there is no other program to use, you delete what you do not
want quickly, you create folders as you need, you save what you want for future
use and you can use the "find" search bar to filter your info. Those of us who
have little use for Facebook are not sure those features are readily available
with Facebook. They may be, but we do not know that is the case.

Just my two cents.

Jim

I agree. I have successfully avoided Facebook until now, and really do not
want to have anything to do with it.

2021-12-14 Thread Nicky Avery

Gary, tell us how you really feel!

I closed my FB account a few years ago and really do not wish to change
that.

Gary and I and, perhaps, others are faced with an unfortunate choice:
either we have to hold our noses or miss out. I realize there are far
fewer options these days but, even so, there still are alternatives. I
found some here https://threads.cloud/google-groups-alternative/

Might one of the alternatives suffice and keep us all happy? Would you
be so kind as to reconsider your choice, Razzak?

Re: [RBASE-L] - Announcement: R:BASE "Community" Facebook Group

2021-12-14 Thread 'Karen Tellef' via RBASE-L
Yeah the writing was on the wall, wasn't it?  Yahoo groups gone, now I think
Google groups are on the way out too.  Of the dozen groups I was a member of at
one time, RBase, RStreet and one horse-related group are the only ones left.
I work for my village's government, and whether you like Facebook or not, it is
simply the fastest way to get information out to our residents.  We can say
"it's on our website" or "sign up for our automatic emails or phone calls" til
we're blue in the face, and residents check neither.  A FB group will work as
long as there is the ability for people to create their own posts, include JPGs
or upload files (altho it's only recently that we've been able to do the latter
on the Google groups!)
The thing I like about groups is that it pushes the emails to you, so no effort
is required from me to keep up with the posts.  In FB either you have to
remember to visit the page, or turn notifications on which can be overload and
easily ignored.  We'll see how it goes!

[RBASE-L] - Announcement: R:BASE "Community" Facebook Group

2021-12-14 Thread A. Razzak Memon

Tuesday, December 14, 2021

Dear R:BASE Community,

We all know first-hand the fulfillment and joy of helping one another
and sharing with R:BASE users online.

With the past Email List Servers, and now current Google Group, the
R:BASE community members have been paying it forward for decades.

As such, we are proud to introduce an additional way to seek help and
share R:BASE knowledge with the community, the R:BASE Community Facebook Group!

As with Facebook posts, your shared group content may receive
feedback/reaction from members in form of likes, wows, etc., with
comments and shares.

Use the below URL to join the R:BASE Community Facebook Group, and
let's start a whole new way of sharing our R:BASE knowledge!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/958182905107520

While you all join the group and get ready, we are planning to go
live on January 3rd, 2022.

Please Note: This Google List Server will no longer be active
effective January 3, 2022.

Very Best R:egards,

Razzak.
