RG, I used to be able to fit BG rock n roads ( 700x43) on my Orange 64 QB a
few years back with the wheel in the middle to rear of the dropouts. And the
RnRs have some decent side knobs to take into account. Not sure of exact mm
clearance on each side but it was fine.-Mike

Yeah the low-keyness of the current raw finish is a pretty big plus in that
regard, as I do have to lock it up around town - the orange of my Sam
certainly causes some additional fear when I lock it up out of sight (which
isn't very often)

2021-03-28 Thread Chris L
It might be sacrilege, but if I ever decided to change the color of my
Hunqapillar, I would have it powder coated dull black. Deciding to change
the color would be an indication that it's a "forever" bike for me and I
want it to look as generic as possible. Just a personal preference.

However, there are other Riv's and other non-Riv's that interest me, so for
now, it stays dolphin gray and orange.

[RBW] Fattest Tire on a QB?

2021-03-28 Thread Robert Gardner
Hi everyone --

I recently saw a post on Instagram (which I have subsequently lost track
of) that showed a QB rocking Ultradynamico 700ccs (I think they were the
Rosè racers).

As I am in the market for some new rubber I thought -- WOWZA -- that would
be fun. So, I'm throwing myself at the mercy of the few the proud the QB
riders on this list. What's the fattest you've been able to go on a QB (if
it helps, I ride a 58...)

Thanks all --

It was in Friday’s mailer. Yeah!!!

*Platypus frames will be available to order Thursday April 1st at 12pm
PST. *You'll have to trust us that it isn't an April Fools joke. We're
going to finish all the Sam orders before starting on the Plattys so even
though you'll be able to buy one, we'll take awhile to get to your order.

I think Riv’s objection to metal is in regards to safety. No metal fender comes
with breakaway tabs. The SKS have breakaway tabs for the front wheel, BUT
Portland Design Works makes breakaways for metal fenders, which answers the
safety question.

SKS are made form recycled plastics I believe?

I actually felt the same way until I owned a pair, their mounting system is
well thought out (albeit in German) and they are a lot more forgiving to
knocks than aluminum.

[RBW] Re: What's your favorite painting of a Bombadil?

2021-03-28 Thread Jason Fuller
Blue Lug's sense of style is unparalleled! Yeah that's gorgeous. Eric has
a good point too - and, something that I think about is that a proper
quality paint job will be minimum one-third the value of the frame itself,
when I could just put that towards an actual frame and preserve the
Bombadil's original finish...

Good chance I've been talked out of ever painting it, despite the high
quality options given.

My wife's 47cm Atlantis (Toyo built, c. '02-'03) has Schwalbe Marathon
Supreme in 1.6" width. I think you'd be OK. I just checked & I can get my
index finger between the tire at the fork, seat stay, & chain stay. Tires
measure 1.46" (37 mm). Rims are the originals used by Rivendell at the
time; no idea if width.

Hope that helps.

[RBW] WTB: 64cm Clem L

2021-03-28 Thread adh
Hello everyone, I'm new to the group. I'm looking for a 64cm Clem L,
ideally just the frame set, and even more ideally in a green or black,
though I'm not as picky as all that. They don't really know when the next
batch will come in, which obviously isn't their fault! But I've heard it
could be as late as October and would like to get this build riding before
then.

Thank you

[RBW] new shoes for a 47cm Atlantis

2021-03-28 Thread Mike Davis
Does anyone know if the Rene Herse 26" Naches Pass 1.8's will fit onto an
old style (2002 Made in Japan) Atlantis?

I've run Specialized 1.5 Nimbus (2) for years on the Commuter and the
Atlantis but I'm thinking a little added width might be nice. The catalog
says 1.7", PJW says 1.75", for tires on those models of the Atlantis but
the width of the Naches Pass is 41mm on a 20mm rim (I run 18mm rims).

[RBW] Ride Report

Thought someone might be interested in this story which appears in the
current *Atlanta* magazine.
All my rides were on a Romulus except my recent ride from ATL to Key West

loads.

[RBW] WTB 58-59cm Atlantis frame

2021-03-28 Thread Nathan Sparks
Hello all, new to the group here. I am in search of an Atlantis frame. I
would prefer one of the long chainstay, wide clearance new gen frames, but
would be very interested in and older gen as well. If anyone has any leads
thanks so much!

Cheers, Nathan

Re: [RBW] Re: Any Susie owners out there?

2021-03-28 Thread Benjamin Park
Thanks all! Keith- wondering why you use Jones over Susie for rough rides?
How do your swept back bars (Tosco?) work for the rougher more technical
rides? I have limited experience using that degree of sweep and a little
concerned about control- having elbows out seems more stable to me albeit
less comfortable. Also, how do you like your drivetrain choices? I'm also
looking at a similar setup (2x in front; 10 speed? in back).

[RBW] Re: FS: MUSA pants, British wool and linen

2021-03-28 Thread Doug H.
I've been looking for some pants with primer on the left cuff so these
won't work for me. I need a clean right cuff. This post is so funny and I
got a chuckle out of it. Good luck with the sale. Even stained MUSA pants
are the best. One of my pair have a hole in them and I wear them often.

This

exact frame but orange with black decals. Looks like I might be pushing my
luck with 28mm rubber but that's alright with me. While I love my one and
only 32mm fendered bike, I've started to run into the jack of all trades,
master of none problem. It's not the most spirited ride unloaded and it can
only carry 1 light bag of groceries...Perhaps this will be the year of the
fast road bike and 26er franken-commuter bike!

Jason makes a great point. Things have a better chance of turning up when
you call or email for specifics rather than refreshing that product page!
If you get a definitive idea of when those parts will be back in stock at
Paul it will help you decide if you want to purchase from Blue Lug instead.
Food for thought :)

Sorry - I meant specifically for the Platypus with 38mm or thereabouts. I
think the P50 but want to be sure when I do the Amazon swap.

Fenders are practical! What width tires?

This is from Riv’s website. I hope this helps. It doesn’t specifically say
“chromoplast.”

For 700c tires skinner than 28mm: P35

For 700c tires 28mm to 38mm: P45 Longboards
if you ride up to a 700x38 size.

For 650b or 700c tires up to 45mm: P50

For 26" tires up to 2" : P55 .

For any 700c, 650b, or 26-inch tires up to 2.35" (65mm): B65

[RBW] WTB: your zippy skinny tire road frameset collecting dust

2021-03-28 Thread Andrew Turner
I had some great luck from this group in the past so figured I'd give it
another swing.
I'm on the hunt for a lightweight, steel, no-frill road frameset with the
following attributes:

   - 60ish cm size, going off of old geometry, something with a 60-62 ST
   and 58 TT.
   - 130/100 spacing
   - vertical dropouts
   - downtube shifter bosses
   - clearance for a 28mm - 32mm tire
   - short-mid reach recessed brakes
   - endurance geometry

Looking forward to seeing what's out there!
Thanks group,
Andrew
