[RBW] Re: Which bottom bracket to get?

2021-04-27 Thread Joe Bernard
Riv has 107 and 110 in stock. If it fits ok now get the 110 again, if the
1×-ness of your setup leaves the cranks out too far then 107 should fix you
up.

2021-04-27 Thread Kushan
I think Rivendell recommends 110 mm. This one should

most likely work (Rivendell carries this normally but it's currently not in
stock). It also depends on your crank though and generally the crank
manufactor should also be able to provide recommendation. For example, for
their Clipper crankset
,
RBW recommends 113 mm.

[RBW] Re: Ride Report: Sonoma Coast

2021-04-27 Thread Kushan
Thanks Ben. I have heard a lot about Colman Valley Rd from others but
decided to play it safe with Bay Hill Road. In hindside, I am glad I did
given the amount of walking I had to do with the "easy" option I took.
Regardless, riding in Sonoma just can't be beaten.

[RBW] WTB: Paul touring canti and canti levers

2021-04-27 Thread Eric Marth
Hi all -- I realize many of us are seeking Paul components and that perhaps
the group's collective surplus has run out. I'm putting out a request all
the same.

Seeking one wheelsworth of touring cantilevers in silver, polished or
black.

Seeking canti levers in silver or polished.

If you can help out please send me a message directly. Thanks a bunch!

Re: [RBW] Re: Dim lighting on SON hub/Edelux II headlight

2021-04-27 Thread Ben Miller
Oh wow, Leah!

In theory that *shouldn't* matter, I don't think. It's coaxial wire, so
there should be minimal electrical impedance (if that were a double strand
though, definitely no bueno). The wraps around the forks also shouldn't be
issue (for coaxial or double). The additional resistance from the excess
copper I'm also guessing is minimal. But again, you should try
disconnecting the rear light in order to troubleshoot!

But Oh Man, either way, please get someone to cut that wire to somewhat of
a proper length! It's just asking for trouble and detracts from the
otherwise great looks! You can always leave it a bit long: this gives you
leeway for trimming more later, moving to a different bike (unlikely in
your case i feel :), or changing things around. There is a neat way to deal
with excess wire by wrapping it around a thin rod (like a screw driver or
pencil); it will retain the coil shape (especially if you apply a little
bit of heat while doing it). The coil will act like a little slinky, but
can be straight out later if desired.

It's funny, other than the bird's nest, the wiring doesn't actually look
that bad. There is a nice looking grommet going into the fender, everything
appears coaxial, and you even have the SON coaxial connector! I'd be
interested in seeing a close up of the wiring around the fork and in the
fender though!

[RBW] Which bottom bracket to get?

2021-04-27 Thread Michael Morrissey
Hi,

I need a new bottom bracket for my 55cm Appaloosa. I am running a 1x9
drivetrain with a vintage White Industries Sugino crankset and a Wolf-Tooth
chainring.

I believe the stock bottom bracket was a 110 mm wide unit. I see Rivendell
sells a 107 Shimano one. Which one is best for me?

The bike rides fine as is but the bottom bracket squeaks as if I am
smuggling some chickens down there. I have ridden it hard for about 5
years.

Thank you!

Michael

2021-04-27 Thread Ben Miller
Hm, I seem to recall the movies being really dark, too dark to see which
side its connected on.

But didn't Analog wire it up? With the connector wire being on oneside vs
the other (drive vs nondrive?)

2021-04-27 Thread 'Will Horton' via RBW Owners Bunch
Thanks so much Matthew, both are close, but not quite what I am after.

I definitely want canti brakes, and need 54CM (although a 55CM might work)

I also greatly prefer 700C wheels over 650B

[RBW] WTB: 54CM Canti Sam Hillborne frame or complete bike

2021-04-27 Thread 'Will Horton' via RBW Owners Bunch

Hey folks,

I need a Rivendell to ride with my wife, now that she has a Platypus.
Building up her Platy and riding it a bit really made me want a Rivendell
of my own again. I owned a Bombadil many years ago and really miss that
bike now.

That said, I have settled on wanting a canti Sam Hillborne in 54CM.

Please keep me in mind if you see one pop up. I am in SoCal, between
Ventura County and Los Angeles. I am also open to pay to ship a bike or
frame if its right for me.

thanks

Re: [RBW] What draws you to a single speed bike?

2021-04-27 Thread Carla Waugh
Roberta,
I have two bikes set up as single speed's. My favorite is a 650B with 42
size tires it also has a Marks rack in front with a Wald basket so its able
to be my grocery getter and I also ride other places. I have a 700c that I
haven't used this season setup for road with Phil hubs its fun and fast for
me. I always have a single speed bike.
