[RBW] FS: '85 Specialized Sequoia 63cm

2023-02-18 Thread Mitch
Hey all, I have officially run out of room for bike storage :( First on the
chopping block... my tall sequoia!! I loved riding this bike when i had it
650b it was a real great park ripper/slick commuter. One of my favorite
bikes of all time. This is a rare bird in this size..

Located in SF.. would prefer local pick up but could be down to ship.
Here's the linkage

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bik/d/san-francisco-1985-specialized-sequoia/7585806827.html

let me know you have any questions!

[RBW] Re: Signing up for Scary Things: Intro to Bike Mechanics

2023-02-18 Thread John Rinker
Good on you, Leah! Being able to maintain and fix one's bicycle is just shy
of the fun had in pedaling it. Carry on and one day you'll be building your
own wheels!

Cheers, John

[RBW] Re: Toyo Atlantis fit question, and maybe purchase help

2023-02-18 Thread Dave C
Kurt, I would base this on whether or not I was running 32 mm tires or 42+
mm tires. I had a 61 cm frame that was fine with 32 but if I wanted to
really use the generous tire clearance, the top tube was higher than
desirable off road. From what I understand, a 56 cm with 26” tires could
possibly be better for you if you are running large tires.

Thanks Joe! Over the last few years I just haven’t seen them sit very
often. At least I don’t “need” to sell it. Spring time and tax return

Great bike, great color, it's just kind of a niche within the Riv niche so

 $3500 is

Wolbis/Susie, I got the frame in April ‘22 size Large/56 Dark
 Gold 29” wheels.

Sugar Wheelworks build SimWorks Standalone (Cliffhanger) wheels
with CX-Ray spokes, White Industries MI5 rear hub and Son 28 up
 front.
These wheels have less than 50 miles on them.

The pictures show Rene Herse Fleecer Ridge tires but I’d plan
to put the Ehline 2.5” back on. They have not quite 500 miles on
 them.
 Tubeless with Orange Seal.

2023-02-18 Thread Ryan Frahm
Thank you Keith, I appreciate that! I feel like it’s a pretty good deal so
I’m happy to hear I’m not totally crazy there. Not in a rush for now but if
it keeps sitting here I’m going to start riding it again soon! I took the
saddle of to help temptation.

I will entertain offers on the frameset or wheels as well though. People

I second, (or third?), the recommendation of Shimano SPD's. They work great
and you can easily walk with SPD shoes!

Re: [RBW] Pedal Question

2023-02-18 Thread JohnS
I have Speedplay zero pedals on my road bikes and I really like them. Easy
to clip in and out. Only down side is that mud or snow can get into the
cleat which can make it hard to clip in, just need to clean the cleat first.

The MKS Solution pedal looks interesting, one side is a platform and the
other is SPD. I don't have them, but I'm thinking about it.

2023-02-18 Thread matt miller
I have the EH-500 on my All Road bike. I guess I recently bought it out of
habit. I used to have a pair on my ride everywhere bike (which was stolen).
I liked how I could hop on and ride to the bars or out with friends, and I
could still go on a longer purposeful ride. Haven't used the clip side for
years, but still like the option, I guess! The spikes go in quite easily on
the flats side. They do go on sales every once in a while. Shoes are a
whole other can of worms!

Re: [RBW] Pedal Question

2023-02-18 Thread Patrick Moore
I've used almost all the different pedal types (I've not used Time or Crank
Brothers but I have used Sampsons and WTBs and Graftons) including clips
and straps and I wholeheartedly recommend Shimano SPD pedals. PDm520s are
inexpensive and durable and work fine. Some of the SPD clones -- Ritcheys
and Wellgo for example -- work well too, though SPDs seem to engage and
release better than any other make, even Shimano's lower cost models. And
you can often find SPDs used at low prices if you care to try before
spending a great deal.

[RBW] Pedal Question

2023-02-18 Thread Dick Pahle
trust its ok to ask for product recomendation here. been riding with toe
clips forever and ready to switch to clipless. anyone here have thoughts
about a good pedal for a beginner. something easy to get in and out of. i
get indegestion looking at all the different kinds/styles/types.

road ride mostly but I've seen online recomendations for a shimano mountain
bike pedal. some of the two sided ones look appealing to me with one side
suitable for regular shoes and the other for clipping in with cleats.

thanks in advance for comments/suggestions.

[RBW] Re: Toyo Atlantis fit question, and maybe purchase help

2023-02-18 Thread Justin Dedini
Hey Kurt. I also am 5’10 and ride a 58cm Toyo Atlantis. I’ve had the bike
for over a year now and I do agree with Riv’s fit suggestion. It is
probably the biggest frame I can handle without running into issues. I set
mine up with Tosco bars and a 110mm stem and it fits like a glove so flat
bars and a slightly shorter stem should serve you well in this scenario. I
hope that helps!

A recent thread about the red 58cm Toyo Atlantis for sale in the Bay Area (
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bik/d/vallejo-rivendell-atlantis-58/7578102714.html)

has brought back an old desire to have an early Atlantis. It's a model
I've looked at for years but never pulled the trigger. So that brings me
to my two questions.

First, I should fit according to the brochure. I'm 5'10" and run a 75cm
saddle height, which is the very bottom edge of a 58cm from that era. The
58.5 top tube would normally give me pause (~34/35" sleeve length) but I
want to run it with flat bars, as the red one is currently set up. That
should help with the top tube length. Has anyone of my rough dimensions
ridden a 58cm Toyo and can comment on their experience?

Unless someone comes out of the last question screaming, "Danger, Will
Robinson" we move to my second question: is there a Rivver in the Bay Area
that would be willing to check it out for me, hand over the payment, and
drop it at a local shop that I could work with to pack and ship it? I'm in
Pennsylvania and they state 'no shipping' in the ad. I'm happy to
reimburse you for the trouble.

Thanks everyone!

[RBW] FS: TA Specialites Zephyr Crankset, 9sp Ultegra Drivetrain, Silver DT Shifters

2023-02-18 Thread Michael Ullmer
I'm swapping out the drivetrain on the Ram I picked up a few months back
and have these extra for sale.

1) TA Specialites Zephyr Triple Crankset 172.5 - $250
--The 48 and 36 rings are 110 bcd and the 28 ring is 74 bcd. This also have
a smaller spider with a 56 bcd. Still quite shiny, I didn't get to taking
these apart and cleaning them thoroughly.

2) Ultegra 6500 9sp Drivetrain - $60
--Ultegra 6500 Triple Front and Rear Derailleur. 12-27t 9 sp cassette and
chain. Chain and cassette are dirty/used, but the chain didn't show stretch
when I measured it.

3) Silver DT Shifters - $40
--A few marks but still quite shiny. These have the plastic washer so are
probably an early version.

Or buy the whole lot for $300

Prices are net to me. I'll use Pirateship to generate a shipping estimate.
