[RBW] FS: Waterford X-22 with Rohloff and Son28 hubs. Big Price Bump to $2500
I have loved my Rivendell's and still do but I wanted another Rohloff. This bike reminds me a lot of the Sam Hillborne's and while completing it for a tour I found and purchased a Koga that I will be using instead for my touring bike. For people on this site I will include a very newly used Medium Sackville HappiSack, Son Edelux II light and a Busch + Müller Toplight Line Brake Plus rear light. The price was $3000 firm but I'm going on a little tour soon and trying to make some extra room in the stable, not willing to ship ( Located in the San Francisco Bay Area ) Frame: Waterford x-22 56cm Color: British Racing Green Wheelset: rims are Velocity Dyad ( 36 spoke ), front hub is Son 28 Dynamo, Rear hub is a Rohloff Speedhub 500 14 speed Tires: Schwalbe Evolution Marathon Almotion 700 x 38 Crankset: Crupi 175mm Chainring: Stainless 40 tooth Rear sprocket: 16 tooth Seatpost: Thompson Saddle: Brooks Flyer (approx 500 miles on it ) Handlebars: Velo Orange Crazy Bar Stem: Velo Orange Grips: Ergon GC1 Brakes: Paul Cantilever with Paul Levers Front Rack: Pelago Stainless ( low rider mounts included ) Rear Rack: Velo Orange Stainless Fenders: PDW Full Metal Fenders Water Bottle cages: Velo Orange This bikes has been recently gone through, replacing the cables, chain, brake pads, and so forth. I set this bike up with a lot of care with no expenses spared. This bike I purchased used in very good condition and went through it with touring in mind. I have never done an organized tour through a company but as noted, I think that is a fantastic idea. It should help both of you with any unforeseen drama that might occur, whether fatigue, mechanical issues or reservations at campsites. As for the tandem, I met a great couple touring on a tandem down the Pacific Coast. Thirty years ago the gentleman offered her a nice wedding ring or a tandem bike and she chose the tandem bike. They rode down the Pacific Coast on that bike that year. They then explained their children had since grown up and now they were doing the ride for the 2nd time, 30 years after the original ride. As others have mentioned I have also been waiting on a frameset. Part of what I enjoy about Rivendell's is the individuality of each bike being set up by each owners preferences. Alain I don't know what components are being put on this complete to invest $2100. I do like the rigidity of the bullmoose handlebars and the angle shown on this one but I don't like not having the ability to rotate them to my preferred angle. I understand Rivendell will be selling this frame in the future, but who knows when that will be. I payed a pair down at an angle and was able to get it down to just under 8" without bar end shifters. I keep my bikes pretty spotless and I was considering an Appaloosa when they come out. Now it helps me make my mind up to swap the parts over and donate the frame. I recently tore part of the weld an in the direction that would have been from putting it up into the riding position. I have used them on several bikes and I had one directly mounted to the kickstand plate on my Saga. On my last tour I noticed some fender rub that I have never had before. When I got home I discovered the worse, it had pulled a small amount of the plate off the frame, which appears to have torn the weld off the frame. I'm unsure if it did any permanent structural damage but I will probably replace a frame I loved. My excuse to get a new Rivendell touring frame soon. I'm built the same way and I have been sizing my bikes more towards the top tube dimension, then all PBH. My favorite handlebar is the Bosco Bullmoose when I can find a real long top tube. As Joe stated prior about being able to get on the bike. I can only speak about the Campeur, which I owned for a couple thousand miles. I ran Schwalbe Little Big Bens (38mm)on it road nicely unloaded. Once loaded I felt the front had a lot of frame flex. I preferred that bike to have the load up front and since having a couple touring bikes since I would not recommend that Bike for loaded touring. Very good condition with a small light rubber rub mark on the left side from laying it down on my truck bed liner. I have added a full liner inside the bag to give it a fuller look and also gives the bag more support, that can be removed if it is not to your liking. I have also shortened the bottom straps some because I didn't like the excess always hanging. This is a great deal!!! I have a pair of twin 6 size 33" if your interested and in the Bay Area you can have them. I think I wore them once. The knicker thing just wasn't for me.
