There was a lot of interest in the clothing. First person to write happened

Apologies to the number of interested parties if I'm unable to respond to
each and every one of you regarding the sale of the lot.

What remains is a piddly list in comparison:

-Novara rain pants, large, black w/ lower-leg zippers, used but good
condition $10 + shipping

[RBW] CHOPPED Bosco Bars

2017-01-26 Thread ant ritchey
has anyone tried this? do you have photos of your endeavor? over-all
feelings?

i've tried the Bosco's on 2 different bikes and ended up going with
something else. Mostly because I felt they came back too much. Now I'm
trying to get a nice-lookin' (preferably Nitto) bar that's got quite a bit
of rise. I know that for this project I will once again find the
mega-far-back-reaching Bosco to be too much and am considering buying a
pair and hacking a few inches off either side. Also considering first
trying the VO Left Bank.

thanks for any input!

[RBW] WTB- Nitto dirt drop stems, mt-8 and/or mt-10

2016-12-14 Thread ant ritchey
As it goes, I've previously owned both of these stems. Sold 'em via this
here list. Par for the course- an experiment is now underway and it's got
me thinking...

My LBS has had them back ordered for what seems like forever via Merry
Sales so now I'm reaching out here.

Looking for both the 8cm and 10cm reach iteration. Older, shorter
variations of the DD just won't do, as I've gotta jack the bars up as high
as I possibly can.

PM if you've got something. Thanks a bunch, bunch.

shifter $25

hardware included (will measure struts upon request), excellent conditon
$95

good condition, $20/pair
Ortlieb backpack, messenger "classic", black, good condition, $70
Sugino XD2 triple, 175mm, 46-36-24, the one from Riv, less than 500 miles,
excellent condition $100
UNO post, 6061 brushed, never installed, 27.0 x 300mm $10
Shimano Tiagra rear derailleur, RD-4500, long cage, 9spd, some scratches
$20
Shimano Exage Sport BR-A450caliper brakes w/ pads, bolt-on style, front &
rear, very good condition $15
Sakae CR triple crank, 170mm, 53-46-28, plenty of life left on rings $40
MKS pedals, "quill" style, AR-8, spin smooth, very good condition $10
dirt drop stem of unknown make, anodized, from an '87 Stumpjumper $10
Delta stem riser, black, 1" $8
Ritchey Force riser stem, black, 1" quill $10

2016-06-28 Thread ant ritchey
Alright. Giving up the ghost. If anyone else has a problem with "overlap"
in their stable- you know exactly why I'm putting this bicycle up for sale.

As mentioned in the recent post regarding the sale of my 65 AHH: the winter
of 2014/15 was one of too much time working and dreaming, not enough time
riding and that perfect blessing/curse situation where a bike you really
really want appears FS on this awesome list...and of course it's in your
size!

I have an Atlantis and another gravel/dirt touring rig, a Trek 850. The
Trek has significantly greater tire clearance than the Hunq. Sad in a way,
I know, but that's what it came down to. Additionally, the Hunq was
basically new when I bought it. So I babied it. The Hunq never saw
Vancouver Island, the Pacific Coast, the Lost Coast, Babyshoe, Lolo, the
myriad Oregonbikepacking.com rides. Thinking about it now I never had the
bike out overnight! All the while I was out there and, ya know- I just
rode the Atlantis. The 850 is now fully built up and tackling all of
Weyerhauser's ups and downs with esprit; it has proven itself. So I can now
stop being a wimp and a hoarder and let this beautiful beautiful silver
Hunq go...

[RBW] FS: NITTO cockpit - alba, tallux, miesha's, shimano, etc

2016-06-16 Thread ant ritchey
Another RBW/iBOB cross-post, another link to another Craigslist post...

CLASSY & HIGH-RISIN'

Stainless steel Albatross, 110mm/25.4 Tallux, typical RBW Shimano MTB
levers, the Dura-Ace 9 speed bar end shifters that we all know, Miesha's
cork, Newbaums, a little hemp & a little shellac.

Like the add says- the shifters are not pictured but definitely definitely
definitely included. Additional pics available upon request.

IF the Shimano shifters were a dealbreaker BUT Silver bar ends would get
you on board - I'd happily make the substitution for ya.

The stem was never installed further than the minimum insert. No scratches
on the whole rig. Pristine. Not tryin' to part this out unless I have to.

$200 + shipping

PM if interested. Thanks!

[RBW] FS: 65 A. HOMER HILSEN; single top tube, Waterford built.

2016-06-15 Thread ant ritchey
grow the herd, thin the herd, repeat.

bought this and a 62 Hunq from a list member right around the same time a
year and a half ago. i was working a ton & going through a break up. too
much money to throw around, too little time spent riding & just too much
overlap between the stablemates, as can often-times be the case. ended up
taking the trusty Atlantis out again & again, on trip after trip...and the
Hilsen (along with the soon to be sold off Hunqapillar) just stayed put at
home. a shame, i know. so now i let go.

a link to my CL posting here in Portland, Oregon:

hit me up off list if you've got any questions. i've got packing &
shipping materials ready to go. buyer pays shipping. never done the
bikeflights thing before but i'm all for making it as affordable as
possible to send the big beast off to a new home.

as is regularly the case- i learn a thing or two from the RBW owners group

[RBW] Re: Wald Big Basket + Nitto small front racks

2016-06-14 Thread ant ritchey
what riv calls the big wald plus marks or mini - fine from my experience.

if you're gonna really push it i highly recommend using compression straps
or bungees or whatever to triangulate, securing basket to bars.

although this may not be ideal for drop bar use. works incredibly well on
albatross.

may sound like a no brainer, but! make sure your mounting bolts are kept
tight!

[RBW] Re: Quickbeam rebuild for light-loaded road touring: your thoughts, experiences & assitance?

2016-05-05 Thread ant ritchey
Thanks all!

Bill- totally right. hobby wrenching for 20 years and i learn uber simple
stuff every other day.

DP- city & country- def not mutually exclusive!

Minh- i'm thinking 35mm; i've got the other rigs for 40, 50 and so on.

JohnS- thanks for the Phil rec. definitely gonna use the wheel set I got,
and there aint no Phil Wood in sight.

I raced bmx as a younger man and the thought of the WI duo freewheel seems
unfathomable, yet- there it is. I need to get my paws on one of these!
Honestly though and not trying to start a thread about the holy holy thread
derailleur- BUT i remained sketched about compass tires, supple tires,
light tires, "event" tires, (kevlar-less tires?), what have you. The
reviews personal and otherwise reveal the undeniable great divide. Bottom
line being that Interstate Ave here in North Portland is littered, riddled
& diddled with every bit of glass, rock, pock, frayed wire, catalog of
industrial staple size imaginable. Unfortunately(?) it is part of my daily
riding; to, from, repeat. Fortunately I'm a bit of brute and hardly notice
the difference. Ride feel, for me, is 75% dependent on how I feel before
throwing a leg over the bike.

But yeah- it's gonna be about riding trafficked shoulders and secondary
highways 50% of the time kinda bike; no BQ-friendly shots anywhere. Less
concerned with tire stuff, and quite interested in touring, climbing,
load-carrying-related input. Asking about gearing cuz I usually ride 46/16
city-wise, errand-wise, commute-wise. Legitimately afraid of bouncing up
and down all the way to the workplace, store, etc. Between BMX and SS
commuting all the years that I've done so- the QB is a slightly
non-intuitive build for me; yet again- there it is. The reminder of the
Duo FW's existence is key. THANK YOU.

[RBW] Quickbeam rebuild for light-loaded road touring: your thoughts, experiences & assitance?

2016-05-04 Thread ant ritchey
Hey folks-

Trying to restore my QB back to a semi-stock state. Bought mine with a
track crank & sturmey 5 spd set up. Got rid of both. I've got a nice
suntour triple and flip flop wheel waiting patiently to be rebuilt into my
beautiful orange 64cm machine. Here's where your thoughts and experiences
come in-

Bottom bracket length- the track crank had affixed itself to a stubby
little number, doubt it's gonna work with a double. Anyone know the stock
spindle length off the top of their heads?
Chain ring sizes- came with a 40/32, correct?
Flip flop gearing- stock were 16 & 18t freewheels?
Quick release rear wheel, yes? Would bolt-on be too much of a pain in the
behind? (I'm guessing I'm going to swap out the axle hardware for a QR set
up...)
Racks/luggage- most likely going to use m32 & r14. Anyone have a
bulletproof SS touring rack and or bag combo they'd recommend?
Stock gearing & touring/climbing- I know there are a buncha folks out there
who've ridden the QB quite a ways. How did the 40/32 & 16/18 set up pan
out?
Bar/stem- Noodles & Tech Dlx stock? I'll probably stick to this set up.
Although I'm curious if a mustache bar would give me greater hand-grip
power on the out-of-saddle climbing stretches...

As the post says- I'd like to initially set up for light/moderate loads
(basket & saddlebag) for touring >75% paved roads, coast range road riding
& climbing. The QB is one of the most comfortable rides I've ever owned
and due to its simple nature, ends up being my city ride more often than
not. Therefore shying away from setting it up for gravel, dirt & other
surfaces I tend to tour on.

That's all I can think of for now. Thanks in advance to all who share
their advice.

Best,
Ant / PDX

Gonna keep fiddling with 'em and probably convince myself that i need to
buy some tan backabike sackvilles pronto!

[RBW] Nitto Hub Area racks & their accompanying Sackville bags

2016-02-11 Thread ant ritchey
Finally getting around to installing the HA racks and bags. Was only
slightly skeptical of the irish-strap-as-lone-attachment hardware.

Post-s24o, approx 100 miles and lots of bumps...very impressed! No
loosening what so ever, though i shied from putting anything too heavy in
them.

So my lackluster (and unintentional) review is "hell yeah!" to the
rack/bag/strap combo.

And my question is this: how do you do 'em? thoughts, feelings,
experiences...interested in hearing what the group has to say!

thanks!

i've been comfy and pleased with the albatross for many years, many miles,
many types of roads and riding. and i'd never sell them. get noodles high
enough and they're pretty all-roundish, especially if yer sam is roady-ish.

[RBW] Re: VO Sabot pedal reviews needed, please.

2015-04-29 Thread ant ritchey
So far I'm loving the Sabots!

Didn't care for the Grip Kings. Love the MKS touring but, yeah, wanted
something bigger. I own the VP Thin Gripsters and like them, however I
prefer toe cages, so the VO Sabot was the next logical step. Call me
crazy. I do a lot of touring, gravel, dirt, etc. on a number of different
Rivs. At the end of the day street shoes + cages/straps feel the best to
me.

However- I have not logged too many miles on the VO Sabot w/ or w/o toe
cage, so my input may not be of much use. Just wanted to chime in and let
you know that I'm pretty happy thus far.

Thanks for your time and thoughts.

 *Backstory, and details:*
I am thinking of looking for a platform pedal that will be comfortable in
any shoe, no matter the sole construction (thick/thin/stiff/flimsy). On
another thread, I asked about good shoes for platform pedals, but seems it
could be a long and expensive time of try outs. So I was thinking get some
pedals that work great with any shoe and I won't be tied to just a single
shoe model that works for me.
The Sabots seem to be the flattest, widest, longest, and most uniform
based (for maximum support). I think they are 100 x 100mm square shaped
 pedals.
I want something at least as wide as my MKS touring pedals (which the
Sabots are). And something without a lot of space cut out for maximum
uniform support underfoot (a feature the Sabots have).
Thin Gripsters seem to be a close second, for what I am looking for
design-wise, as well as the Vice pedals. I am also thinking of trying the
MKS Sneaker Pedals, though they are a little narrower and don't have the
silver spindle aesthaetic I like. No to grip kings, and anything else that
is less wide than the MKS Touring pedal. They just make my feet feel like
they are rolling off the sides. So I need that wide support about 90mm+
 wide.

[RBW] Re: HUNQAPILLAR tire clearance experience, a subsequent design curiosity belated NEW BIKE DAY!

2015-03-14 Thread Ant Ritchey
Apologies for taking so long to post again on this thread!

Thanks to all who had a thing or two to say and took the time to post links
to pictures and whatnot.

Sadly, I've been swamped with work, life happenings, other projects and
varying other $-suckers so still no new tires on the Hunq!

Will certainly report back once something happens.

post did that paint job so little justice!!!) The bike went through a
standard baptism: brutal fenderless solo sunrise mud quest through Forest

 stem tires.

The 50mm Schwalbe Duremes that came on the Hunq are wonderful tires they
are most appreciated additions via their new path in life on the Atlantis.
So no surprise here, right? I wanna go bigger on the Hunqapillar. I
threw on the biggest I had laying around, some 29 x 2.1 Kenda Small Block
8's. My caliper says 54mm at the widest knob diameter. (I was able to
safely squeeze these onto my Atlantis, for the record.) There's some room
to go bigger, of course and here's where you all can steer me in the right
direction... Gobs of clearance when it comes to the fork and chainstays,
but looking at the seat stays it seems like a 60mm/2.35 would be pushing
 it.

I'm on the verge of buying the first set of For-The-Hunq tires and I'd
very much appreciate the Good Word of thee Group. I'm looking at some
Panaracer 2.2's but would love to max this baby out! Can i go bigger?
What's the word? Do you Bombadil riders get more clearance or no?

From the design perspective: Probably ain't so easy to make much more
clearance in the seat stay zone without doing something funky (ie bowed
Atlantis chainstays), but my function/design question is this: why mega
wide clearances at the fork chainstays if the seat stay clearance is the
ceiling at a mere (sarcasm) 59.5ishmm?

Also- if anyone recalls the initial FS posting and thread for this bike, (
 --- HERE
 https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/rbw-owners-bunch/waterford$20hunq/rbw-owners-bunch/vjPEda_VHYo/KREpRtBXre8J
) there was a mention by the now-previous owner of larger tire
 clearance edition
which roused some questions in the group to little avail. Were early
batches of Hunq's maxing out at a more narrow tire? It's no big deal but I
admit I am a little confused by this claim. Any and all info greatly
appreciated. OK. Enough. I'm gonna go ride now, I swear.

helpful.

I was in the midst of a solo jaunt from Portland to SF and had taken the
day off in Eureka. On a whim decided to go Lost Coast/Usal Road to link
back up with Highway 1 using little more than the Adventure Cycling map and
a few notes jotted down from this fellow's site. Seems like his rig was a
traditional rando set up. I went Atlantis w/ 700x42. I spent the night at
