Re: [RBW] Re: Advice on sizing please.

2014-12-29 Thread Shoji Takahashi
Agree with many good comments. A few additions:
How is the current bike fit? What's the saddle height? Also, particularly
long or short limbs? If there's a picture of a well-fitting bike, that is
helpful.

I'm ~81cm PBH and go with a 48 Hunqapillar and 56 AHH. (There is latitude
with sizing: I could fit a 51 Hunqapillar and 54 AHH.)

Good luck!
Shoji

fit great. I bought them according to the sizing on the Riv site. I'm a
long inseam 5'10 so that means a bit shorter reach. If I were to have to
start from scratch, knowing what I know now, I would probably go with 61cm
on the Hilsen and Roadeo, only because of the reach, and maybe liking,
aesthetically a bit more than a fistful of seat post than a bit less, as
I currently have. But the bikes I have fit wonderfully and there is no
reason to change. Comparing and contrasting, my LBS put me on a 54cm bike 3
years before I found Riv, then their professional fit that I paid extra
for, compressed me, even though I protested that my knees were not flexible
enough (3 years before double replacement) for the low seat position they
were suggesting (demanding, actually.) I would recommend Riv fitting for
anyone. Also, quill stems are super versatile in dialing in the bike once
 you have it.

I’m a conventionally proportioned 6’ tall, with a PBH around 87.5 or 88. My
61cm Atlantis is the perfect size for me (with Albas). If I were running drops
I might be tempted by the next smaller size.

Trust the elves of Rivendell. They know what they are doing. And in they odd
event there is a factor missed, they have a solid reputation for making things
right. I bought both my bikes sight unseen and have been delighted! Definitely
call them and ask any and all questions, and answer all theirs. They'll have

[RBW] Re: Advice on sizing please.

2014-12-26 Thread dougP
Michael:

Rivendell's sizing method works well for the majority of riders. An 81.3
cm PBH puts her on 54.5 cm Atlantis and your 88.9 on a 61. Give Rivendell
a call talk to someone live about your type of riding, planned set-up,
and any other questions. I made multiple phone calls before ordering my
Atlantis and found them to super helpful. They want you on a bike that
fits you your intended use. I bought mine without ever seeing a
Rivendell in person. When the bike arrived at my house, it took only a
short time to finish the assembly get on the road. Within a couple of
miles minor fit adjustments, I had the best fitting bike I've ever
owned. Other than fiddling with different handlebars and gradually raising
the bars, my fit has changed very little in the 12 years I've ridden the
bike.

2014-12-26 Thread Anne Paulson
I agree with Patrick. Rivendell wants you to be happy with your bike.
They want the bike to fit, and you to ride it. They'll work hard so
that you are satisfied. Call them and have a long long chat. Unless
this is to be a surprise, I'd suggest that the rider be the one to
talk to Rivendell.

In the rare cases when I've had problems with items I've bought from
Rivendell, they have gone out of their way to make things right.
