[RBW] Re: ClemSamples on the BLUG

2015-03-18 Thread 'Chris Lampe 2' via RBW Owners Bunch
Completed bikes now posted on the Blug!!

It looks like the 52cm would work for me!! I did a quick mock-up in
BikeCad, using some stats from other RBW 650B bikes and some eyeball
guesses. It would be a longer haul because I would have to buy a frameset
AND new wheels but it's something I'll seriously consider.

I would set it up as a 1x9 with Deore components and Big Apples.

[RBW] Re: ClemSamples on the BLUG

2015-03-14 Thread 'velo59' via RBW Owners Bunch
Why not just run the cable to the noodle from underneath? Point the noodle
down rather than up. Ladies frames with caliper brakes on the seat stay
bridge used this routing.

Downside is that moisture collects in the inverted housing. With stainless
housing and cable, this is less of an issue. In the past, this would
result in a rusted cable and an inoperative brake.

My wife has a Raleigh comfort bike with the same style of top tube that
curves.
The brake cable and housing runs under the TT, like the Clementine's stops
are positioned, and then, from the junction of the TT and ST, it curves up
the ST and terminates at the V brake noodle.
You can see it here. But you have to click on the color link for "Purple"
to see that frame version:
http://archive.raleighusa.com/archive/2012-hybrid/detour-2-5-12/

I was surprised when I saw the Clem's TT that way. It makes the bike look
like many of the modern ladies' hybrid/comfort bikes that way.

2015-03-13 Thread Allingham II, Thomas J
I have a Wilbury – no problem there, the rear brake is mounted on the midstay
bridge, so the cable run is straight to the brake straddle cable. (For
centerpulls; for sidepulls I think you can just install the cable upside down,
no straddle required.) On the Clemmie-girl, the canti posts are up near the
seat stay bridge, but the cable runs along the upper downtube, which meets the
seat tube very low, well below the seat stay bridge – hence the need to figure
out the cable run without a kink-inducing sharp turn downward. Something like
that.

Here's a good reason for more water bottle holders on a good "town" bike: If you're shopping, it's sometimes nice to have a bottle cage for a newly purchased bottle of something you got at the store. If the bottle's the right size, the cages can hold "non-athletic" drink containers. Seems fitting for a town bike. Better for a town bike that will be ready for "dirt sport" action like the Clem.

They should add a second set of bottle cage bosses on the back of the seat tube.  They showed a strap-on twofish cage in that position earlier on the BLUG.The twofish cage actually works ok, from my experience, but it's ugly.

Re: [RBW] Re: ClemSamples on the BLUG

2015-03-13 Thread Deacon Patrick
I just talked with Mark at Riv. and he said he's pretty sure there will be
a second set of bottle mounts on the upper part of the "top" tube, high
enough to no interfere with step through. Putting the bosses on the back of
the seat tube could limit fender clearance in some sizes, so they nixed
that idea.

With abandon,
Patrick

Keith, I'd rather my wife and daughters have the option of a second bottle
cage and choose not to use it. As for contaminants, all kind soft solutions
exist, including putting a cloth cover with elastic over the top of the
bottle. I just wipe away the dirt and drink away. Of course most people
think me insane anyway, so that's just more evidence. Grin.

2015-03-13 Thread iamkeith
I don't know about the water-bottle-behind-the-seat-tube idea. I'm
not particularly worried about this under normal circumstances (I know many
people who will only use camelbacks when mountain biking, because of
concerns about trail dirt and animal dung), but it seems like this is just
asking for trouble. Unless you have *really good* fenders (which might
make it too tight and not an option anyway) then there's a pretty high
likelihood of splashing contaminants from the road or trail right onto the
valve that you drink out of. Ick.

An everything cage for "stuff" could be pretty neat though. Ideally,
they'd add a third boss there, but that's a lot to ask considering how many
braze-ons these appear to have already. These are an AMAZING value, in
that respect!!! Might only work on the 59, with skinny tires and no
fenders, too.

I think a pair of pump pegs on the back of the seat tube would be the
ultimate winner, personally.

All-in-all, these are even more beautiful than I had expected. Just,
WOW! I'm quite happy with my sight-unseen selection of dark blue, too!
