[RBW] Re: Schwalbe Big One(s) on Clem.
Just installed the 29er snakeskin version today, running them tubeless. Getting them to seat tubeless was a little bit of an adventure, and my LBS had to open up the airflow on the compressor all the way and massage them a bit to get them seated. I only took a short ride around town, but they are remarkably zippier than the Super Motos I had been running. The tread area is significantly thinner than a Super Moto and I do wonder how much abuse they can take and what the lifespan will be, but I'll take a shorter lifespan for a funner ride! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. I noticed/felt a buldge in the rear tire at 35psi. Took it off and checked the tube, remounted with everything looking good, and the buldge is right where it was before. I'm using Schwalbe tubes. I recently bought a set of 29er SnakeSkins from Bike24 and they finally cleared customs after two weeks in holding. Worked out to $98 with shipping for the pair, so about 40% off U.S prices. I will measure with calipers (though they'll be mounted on a 45mm rim) and report on ride quality when I get them. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Schwalbe Big One(s) on Clem.
I ordered SKS B65 fenders, and the fender curve matches the Big One perfectly. Still need to get them installed, the rear is weird - SKS I think uses the same spacing for all their fenders but doesn't seem to take into consideration how much bigger a 29er tire can be. The rear fender stays naturally end up around the brazeon just in front of the dropouts on the seatstay. I was planning on installing a rack there, so might just have the fenders go there as well. [RBW] Re: Schwalbe Big One(s) on Clem.
Hi Drew, The tread pattern is just little dots, so there's not much to wear out. And the tread isn't very thick. That's the tradeoff I suppose for fast and comfortable. I don't expect the tread to wear as long as a Super Moto tread. Obviously no flat protection on these, I'll be swapping in superlight tubes and Stan's sealant - I think the superlight tubes with sealant will be about the same weight or a little less than the regular tubes that I'm using now. The lower pressure needed for these tires means that they'll be less likely to pick up debris, but we'll see. The snow/ice in Chicago has melted a bit, but with colder temps expected, I'll most likely swap in Smart Sams, so a durability test will have to wait until I get the chance to ride these on a regular basis. I have the marathon supremes and the big apple tires on other bikes. 1.6, 2.0 supremes and 2.1 big apple. I got the supremes for easier rolling and higher pressure. I weigh 190. Turns out that the big apples roll better. Significantly better. I changed out the bearings on one of my bikes because I thought It should be rolling easier than the the bike with the big apples. So this is totally scientific LOL. Love the 27.5 and can't wait to roll on the big ones. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Schwalbe Big One(s) on Clem.
I test fitted a VO 63mm fender on my Clem, and it looked fine, though I'll be locking this bike up and bringing it an elevator daily, so I'm thinking about the SKS B65 fenders instead. My LBS can order them for me so I might go that route. If the B65 are 65mm wide, then I think It'll be fine around a 56mm or so tire. I'm also going to setup a second wheelset (I think I have a beater set that would work) with 2.1 Smart Sams, so I'm hoping with fenders installed for the Big Ones, that there would be extra fender clearance for the Smart Sams. If that works, and a simple wheel swap works, I'll probably abandon my plan to run dynamo lighting. David Chicago On Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 2:07:45 PM UTC-6, Zed Martinez wrote: > > Nice!
