That's OK. There are no hand grenades in the RC tank combat. Two of my
tanks are open tops. IT's the Hellcat's thin armour that discourages the
tanker.

No, the Hellcat was not the fastest. The BT-7 could do about 60MPH. Armor
thickness was about the same but the M-18 had the BT-7 beat with a larger gun.
The BT-7 did have a roof, however

[TANKS] Re: Bulldog mania

2009-01-26 Thread George Mastoras
I built my bulldog out of 3 mm steel, it is overweight for its scale, about
200 percent of scale weight.
One lesson I learnt is that it doesn¹t matter how strong you make the body,
what is more important to me are how the wheels, swing arms drive train,
idlers etc are built because if you want to go flat out over obstacles the
body will hardly get a belting, its your suspension and tracks that have top
be up for it.

So how I have changed my method on the lecelrc was to build the body out of
1.5mm steel but have the frontal plate as 6mm giving me a lightweight body
with a heavily armoured front.

Have to admit that as my bulldog is heavy for its size it does give a
satisfying feeling driving it as it flattens all tall grass before it and
has a rather impressive push/pull capability.

I believe that is a typo. The 1/16 scale Jadgpanther is already out
and the 1/16 M4 is coming from Heng Long also (or one of those
companies) with the VVSS suspenion, not the HVSS like Tamiya. Scroll
all the way down and you'll see parts for 1/16th scale tanks.

Very nice build! I've been looking at that tank for quite a while thinking to
make it the next project after the Merkava. Looks like someone beat me to it!
:)

Though if it was me, I would put in a simple elevate system instead of trying
to reproduce the tilting suspension system. Thought it would be neat to see a
model with the full size's suspension. :)

That tank is every lowrider's dream vehicle. Heh.

Phil,
I did what most of us have done, 1/35th model, and scaled it up.
I did cheat using turbocad, to make most of the large panels, printed
them out and then cut them with a jigsaw, and then making the other
panels to fit as I went.
The fun part will be working suspension, ie using the suspension to
elevate the gun to fire, (there has to be some realism).
My intention is to set the inner suspension arms against each other,
then set the front and rear together but set them up to move against
each other under control, but time will tell.

[TANKS] Re: its about time I got off my butt and started my building again

2009-01-26 Thread Phil

Nice work Pete

You have to be impressed by the angle of that front plate. I'm
impressed by the way you've simplified it without losing the essential
shape- I looked at the S tank and the front plate is a complex cast
shape.

[TANKS] Re: It lives, Dr Frankenstein! It lives!

2009-01-26 Thread Phil

Thanks for your comment, Chris. Yes, that is the new shed. Still needs
a few bits sorting. In "real life" I am a fairly organised person but
I allow myself a bit of latitude in model-making!

The key-fobs are not perfect- one of the relays is very poor at
responding, which gives rise to some driving-round-in-circles issues-
but I am working on that.

[TANKS] Re: It lives, Dr Frankenstein! It lives!

2009-01-26 Thread Phil

I need to test it on grass, but at the moment it's got wires and fuses
sticking out of the bottom, it needs a base-plate.

I suppose that you could make the ÜBERSCHWERERKAMPFSCHREITPANZER (UKP)
by using an electro-mechanical solution on an organic base. That is,
if I can persude the cat to carry the paintball gun...

I'll put it on my 'next project' list.
