RE: [TANKS] model tank releases for this year

2011-02-19 Thread Jean-Maxime Cyr St-Pierre

If you don't know there are two 1/35 builts of the two models proposed by
Porche for the future built of the King Tiger(Tiger II). I think that Henchel
and Porche receive the oder to built an heavy tank (more than the Tiger 1) with
the armor built of the Panther, with a turret armed with (I think) the 88mm Pak
43.2 (L/71) and a sample built with the old construction equipment. Porche
proposed the base frame, the suspension and the electrique transmision of the
Ferdinand/Elefant tank and Henchel proposed to built the Tiger II(70 tons) with
the engine and transmision of the Panther(40 tons) and 18 swings arms
suspension of the Tiger 1(16 swings arms for 50 tons). The Porche projects have
beans denied because the lacks of copper production for the electrique
transmision. The Henchel have bean produced with no primar field test and that
cause the reputation of the Tiger II to always broken down outside the
battlefield with the lacks of good mechanics component.

[TANKS] Rules Questions

2011-04-30 Thread Jean-Maxime Cyr St-Pierre

Hi all,
I have two question for you.

- First, I have done a lot of researchs to find a tank models for me.
I'm far away than any RC shop or guys to help me in that. So I have read and
re-read all the rule (http://www.rctankcombat.com/rules/) and I don't find if
we are obligated to use a radio remote controle for the tank. I know that is
cool, but I don't have the equipement for this and I'm not good with the
electronics parts or with the internet sells. I have saw a lot of videos
battles with all the tank commmanders behind their tanks to get a good
targeting with the cannon. So, can I use a wired remote controller?

-After, I have read someting about a limit of speed in some mails
recently. So, do we have limit of speed? Because, I'm thinking about my motors
and transmission ratio to select my tank models.

 Thanks for your answers

RE: [TANKS] Could someone help me with this please ?

2012-01-16 Thread Jean-Maxime Cyr St-Pierre

Hello guys,
I am a welder. So, I know a lot on welding. Stick welding is the most basic
welding for its the technical value, but not the easiest to do...! You have the
machine, the ground and the stick-older. The stick welding is the best for
work-out purpose. You can use its in a shop, outside, in winter, wen the rain
falling down... everywhere. But its need some skills and for big welding jobs,
its a bit slow. For who don't know, stick welding is more used for thicker
plates like 1/4inch and +. So, for small welding on someting like tank!! its
not really easy to done. Simple tricks: If you weld plate of 1/8inch you most
use 1/8 and less sticks

Hello Guy!!!,
George Bradford are a real specialist of AFVs drawings. Here is the the web
site where he sells individual drawnings for 2$ each. It's maybe expensive but
you can see the quality of the plans with the example of the Pz IV ausf E show
at the 1/35 list. I'm around 100 plans ordered and I'm always pleased to see is
work. They are not perfect, but this is the bests drawnings I have found on
internet. Tell me if you want more example!!

while we (mom and I) were out this afternoon, one of the places we stopped
at Ollie's and the first place i always walk through is the book section...
just in case. I was getting to the end of the last isle when i saw this 8.5 x
11" booklet of 95 pages and it is filled with drawings of all kinds of early
WWII German vehicles and there's quite a few i can say i've never
seen.

the plans in the booklet all seem to be by George Bradford. on the
inside of the back pages it shows there are 3 other booklets, one for American,
Russian and German (late war) so when i'm back down that way in the coming
week i'll look to see if the other booklets are there. the booklet was about
$5.00 - i'll have new batteries for my camera in a few days and can
snap some pictures of the book to show.

RE: [TANKS] Re: Treads

2014-09-13 Thread Jean-Maxime Cyr St-Pierre
It won't work. I don't get picks of my testing but I tryed exacly the same
idea. It's hard to explane... When you got your track straight let say that you
got .125inch of space between each treads. Yours treads are on the outside of
the chain axle so with a larger radius then the chain axle. When your treads go
arround let say the idler the chains will do there jobs buy turning arround
each pins of the chain. It's make the space between yours treads larger(let say
.25inch) of what they are when they are straight(I'm sure that all tankers that
have tryed attachement treads can confirm that) .

When I saw this, I though that I just needed to make theeths on my sprocket .25
inch large to fit in the space of the treads, but when the track becomes
straight, the space close and cut the teeth that you try to put in. So, I tryed
to do the same thing but with .125inch theeths but it did the same things...
The problem is that the total length of the treads and the spaces changes
drastically from around your sprocket to straigth line

I had invested around 200$ of bike chain, bolts, nuts and aluminium treads pad
few year ago thinking that I was smarter then other guys... I have waste two
month in prototype making with all the manners I could think to make its work
that way Seriously the tank i'm working on is made with the simple and
durable Tyng Tracks System with sprocket drive and the 25ft of chain geting
dusty in a corner of my garage.

You can try if you want but if you understand what i'm trying to explain, it
will be better to think about building your track a different way.

I'm guessing attachment chain is designed with ready bolt holes? Sounds like
it would be a bit more expensive, people wouldn't use it as much. As for the
"skip tooth" IIRC it's best just made--cut out the desired teeth by whatever
method you care for.

I'm planning on a modified chain track system--two chains on each belt, and
wooden treads just screwed on. The big difference was instead of friction
drive, I was going to cut sprockets that actually engage the treads. It'll
take some math, and without modeling software some trial and error, but it
shouldn't be terribly difficult to get the sprocket right. This gives the
reliability of a sprocket drive, without the mess of dealing with modifying
sprockets or any of that. You could also do something similar with the larger
roller chain down the middle, using sprockets on the treads instead of the
chain to drive it.

Subject: Re: [TANKS] Re: Treads

Chris, IIRC that was more or less how the first chain tracks were made. I
refer to the article:
http://www.rctankcombat.com/articles/track-systems/

The original fix to the derailing was to skip the sprockets and go to a
friction drive. I'm going to make larger sprockets that will engage the track
itself, not the chain. I'm thinking plywood might be enough, definitely test
some of that before plunging in to cut aluminum though, even if I need metal in
the end.

Jean, if you only got an eighth of an inch between tracks, it's never gonna
work right. Looking at the M1 Abrams(my build), the tracks are designed so the
lugs on the outside the sprockets engage have space between them roughly the
same as the length of the lug. This gives enough space for a decent sprocket
tooth to engage the track. I'm not doing it quite like that, so the gaps are
thinner, but you do have to make them big enough for a decent sprocket tooth.
The Abrams has about 11 teeth on the track sprockets, even scaled down, that
means a lot more than 1/8" between track pads. Gotta have the space to make it
work.

I've messed around with this a bit in Solidworks, and I'll mess around some
more most likely before I start making stuff, and do some simple tests before
going whole hog.

OK, finally getting sat down and uploading these. Looking at them, I'm no
longer sure if Jean is right and it'll have problems. The gaps are bigger,
7/16", but the sprockets aren't the pattern I remembered, though I might be
using the wrong sprocket--I thought it had more of a gap for the track to fit
in. I'd appreciate your input Jean. While I'd like to see if this will work,
it'd be nice to know how much effort it's worth.

Since I'm looking at making tanks in this scale as a business, I'm also looking
at doing realistic metal tracks, though that'll require work to find a process
that doesn't take hours and hours of run time on machines to make one set.

Also threw in a pic of the model for the hull. I need to get a few cuts on the
table saw done, and I'll be able to finish assembling the hull and start
putting motors and stuff in it.

Probably some experienced guys would say that too much grip mean difficulties
to turn neutral on grass and drawn to much amp. to your motors.

In second I would say that some guides thooths would probably work better even
if it's seemmed to work. Your super traction will probably trow off your track
at the first turn...

I'm not experienced a lot but i got a 80% tank hull that will maybe running
this weeckend, but a lot of guys reduce their grip with flat tracks even let
some screws heads out to run better on all

conditions..

Out of that good work and make lots of testing cause tracks are cool but hard
to master!!!

Subject: [TANKS] New Track Idea

Hello all,
My name is Josh and I am a robotics engineer. I do a lot of medical robotics
during the day and mess around with RC stuff for fun. I was thinking about
building a RC lawn mower because I figured it would be more fun to build the
robot then mow my lawn. Plus sitting in the shade with a beer while I drive a
RC lawn mower around the yard sounds great. Anyway, stumbled onto this group
when looking at the track options. This page was really helpful
http://www.rctankcombat.com/articles/track-systems/ and I got an idea that I
wanted to see what people thought of it.
I really liked the chain and bolt track idea. Using standard roller chain has a
lot of advantages. Lots of sizes, strong, standard drive parts. But I did not
like how all the load was on the chain and not the middle tread. Seems like you
might not get much grip in some situations. So I started toying around with the
idea of a custom tread, that you mounted to the roller chain. You could have
various sizes, for different chain. Maybe even have different tread profiles to
pick from. I 3d printed some parts to make prototypes and I ordered the
materials to cast about 50-100 parts. I figured I would see what you guys
thought. Maybe pick your brains. The final part would probably be injection
molded. I do this kind of stuff at work so I have some contacts.
Any comments welcome. The red ones match #35 chain and are 3" wide, the black
match #40 chain and are 4" wide, and the white match #50 chain and are 5" wide.
Maybe I am just missing something obvious since I have never build a tracked
vehicle.

motors look nice for futur project...!!

And if possible more picks of them with the dimension of each step of gearing
to see if it can fit directly on some drive wheels...

Thank you

[TANKS] SU-76 rolling out

2015-04-27 Thread Jean-Maxime Cyr St-Pierre
Hello guys,

I finaly put my tank hull into a working condition!! It's been long since the
last time I post some news of it...

I first made a stupid mistake when pluging my batterys to finally blow up my
ESC, the C12C I had and some more element and wires...

After re-purchase all component and receive a new C12C thank to the super after
market service from Frank I finally made some test on my running gear.

I had a lot of ajustement to make with the tracks and the suspension but there
is the video of what it look like.

I had to buy a new futuba controler and receiver cause the C12C work superbly
but I had some signal difficulty using a wireless PS2 controller probably due
to the aluminium hull...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NI4tNkiUXNs

Report of my video footage :

- I will have to try if it's better to use a directly 3d printed ABS srocket
wheels cause the Smooth-Cast 305 sprocket I made are a little too dry on
impacts...

-redesign of the inner track pad to get stronger guides theets

-redesign of the outter track to get a simple flat pad ( everybody said it,
myself too but I get too much traction on grass and when turning and I just rip
the grass off
putting too much pressure on the track theeths and my running gear...

-The MPSS3 suspension from Field of Armor Tanks unit work perfectly!!!

-Work on my idlers wheels cause they both does not perfectly aligns with the
rest of roadwheels.

Hope you enjoy the video!!

RE: [TANKS] SU-76 rolling out

2015-04-27 Thread Jean-Maxime Cyr St-Pierre
I will be glad to make part of some publicity for your system and my idler is
the track tensioner but not auto ajustable like on your tanks.

When I will be able to post my built on the Rc combat tank webside I will show
it clearly .

The idler is attach to a small arm which pivot on a axle and it got a pin wich
got in pre-made position holes that give me a solid ajustement.

When I mount the track I compress all the suspension and ajust the idler
accordingly so the entire suspension is use to keep the tension on the track.

I hope you accept us in your group and we'd also love to attend a battle. I am

As the hobby grows, so does the need to keep members informed as

Google has graciously provided us with a more powerful and

everyone currently receiving messages by email. If you have been
monitoring our mailing list in the past via the website, now you can
simply do the same from Google Groups.

[TANKS] Gettysburg battle

2016-03-11 Thread Jean-Maxime Cyr St-Pierre
Hello guys!!

I'm already looking foward to meet some of you this spring...! I did call both
border to go with my tank and paintball stuff and to get back without being
confiscated.

For the Canadian border I just need to register my stuff before living to prove
that I had it before my travel.

For the US, the woman I spoke told me to put my paintball gun into a case, tell
the border agent that I got a paintball gun in a case and everything will be
okay

Since I am already very excited to go battling, I really want to be sure that I
don't get stuck at the border...

So I would like to ask if one of you US guys here can help me confirm that
there will be not that much trouble to pass a weekend in the US with my
paintball gun and CO2 tank??!

If what I have been told is 100% sure, then I will be 100% sure to be there
this year!!

By the way, did the masters of the event are looking for a date already?? By
looking the past battles it seems to always be between mid-April and mid-May.

And not sure if I had trouble with my email or something but I did not receive
my username and password for the RC tank page to show my work... I did contact
Frank Pittelli directly but I don't seem to have receive any answer... I sure
that this

mis-comunication will be solve easely so I can show you more snow plowing!!!...

Thanks in advance for any answer to my many questions and hope to see you in
battle!!

Pretty Nice work you did on that tank!!!

Lot of scaled parts!!

Am I rigth to think that you made your own 3d printed gearbox??

And by looking at your videos, it seems that you will make this tank FPV with
a moving periscope on the cupola??!!

Eager to see more details on your projects!!

Yes your right-All moving parts are printed, including the gearboxes. And yes,
my Centurion will be controled with FPV gear. That mens 2 camers: one in the
tover and one pointing with the canon. And a laser pointer also to aim with :-)

RE: [TANKS] Re: Centurion mrk 5

2016-04-14 Thread Jean-Maxime Cyr St-Pierre
Super job!! Look anwsome!!

I got few questions...!

What size your airplane motors are ??

What material your using for your gears?? I know there is new wires to make
super strong gearing out of nylon...

What is the thing you made up for not overheating your motor?

And after all this did you see any sign of wear on any of your part?? Because
your project seem to proof that the futur of our hobby pass by the 3d printing
like almost in any hobby it seems...!!

Thank you
