[RDA-L] Recording text and symbol in copyright dates
Hi all, Here's yet another question about the copyright date! I know that you would include the copyright symbol with the copyright date in a 264 if the symbol appears on the resource. Would you include any accompanying text in the 264 as well? For example... On source: Copyright (c) 2009 Would you include Copyright or just record the copyright symbol and the date? 264 _4 $c Copyright (c)2009 Or 264 _4 $c (c)2009 Thanks! [RDA-L] Correct use of relationship designators for corportate bodies
Hi all, I have questions about the correct use of the relationship designators, issuing body and author, especially for corporate bodies. If a corporate body is considered the creator of a work (per RDA 19.2.1.1.1) and is recorded in the 110 of a bibliographic record, would you use the relationship designator author? RDA mentions both publishing and issuing when defining publisher's name at RDA 2.8.4, so what's the difference between publishing something and issuing something? When would you use issuing body as a relationship designator? Re: [RDA-L] Correct use of relationship designators for corportate bodies
I forgot to mention in my original email that we catalog numerous state government publications that are published?/issued? by state agencies and not commercial publishers. I lean towards using issuing body for these types of publications but wasn't sure if my leaning was in the right direction. Thanks, Adam! An issuing body may not be the publisher. Many journals are issued by a scholarly society but published by a commercial publisher. When the issuing body and publisher are the same, you could use two relationship designators, but so far I've just used issuing body. [RDA-L] Use of brackets in RDA records
Hi all, I have a question concerning the use of brackets and supplied information in RDA records. I know that according to RDA 2.2.4, if you take information from outside the resource, you can enclose that information in square brackets, but what if the information is on the resource but is used for another RDA element? We catalog numerous publications from state government agencies in which we only have a statement of responsibility in the imprint area, but not publication information. In these cases, we might use the statement of responsibility to supply the publication information if we judge that the agency could also be considered the publisher of the resource. Would we bracket this information in the 264 because it is supplied even though it does not come from outside the resource? I know that this is similar to the situation of using of the copyright date to supply the publication date, but I would still like to hear thoughts on this topic. [RDA-L] RDA and the Title Proper
Hi all, We are beginning to transition into original cataloging with RDA, but we have encountered a situation concerning the title proper and other title information. The title as presented on the title page is: Evaluation of pilot project: Emergency traffic control for responders In the light of RDA's transcribe it as you see it theme, how would you transcribe this title? Would you transcribe all of the title as the title proper or is there a title proper and other title information? I feel that Emergency traffic control for responders is the title proper, but its placement on the title page is problematic. If the 2 title segments had been flipped in sequence, I think there would not have been much question about it. If you were to transcribe all of the title as the title proper, would you include the colon as well? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm just being traditionalist here. Heidrun On 19.03.2013 13:59, Jenny Wright wrote: Hi Cathy I don't believe there's any conflict here, between what you want to do (use Emergency traffic control for responders as the title proper) and what RDA is telling you to do in 2.3.2 Title proper and 2.3.4 Other title information. The title proper is defined as the chief name of a resource, i.e. the title normally used when citing the resource; and other title information is defined as the information which appears in conjunction with, and is subordinate to, the title proper. I do not believe that a phrase appearing above another phrase on a title page necessarily makes it more important - you can use your judgement to determine which phrase is intended as the chief name, and which phrase is subordinate. Hi all, In perusing the blog entry on the RDA Toolkit and this email, I noticed a mention of Essential RDA. I am not familiar with this planned publication. Is this meant to be an electronic or print resource? Any other information about it would be greatly appreciated!
