nfs question

2003-10-05 Thread João Borsoi Soares
Hello list,

I've set up a nfs server, and I was having a problem when booting the
system. I was getting the following message:

rpc.nfsd: nfssvc: Address already in use

Well, I found out the problem. My server is a nfs server but also a nfs
client (through netfs). Redhat setup application made boot service order
like that:

1) nfslock
2) netfs
3) nfs

Starting nfslock and after netfs makes nfs 2049 port unavailable. So I
forced netfs to be started after netfs and the problem was solved.

Does anyone knows why that happens? Is my solution the best one? Why
redhat setup application does not put the correct boot order in this
case?

Thanks,
Joao.

UTF-8

2003-07-08 Thread João Borsoi Soares
Hello all,

I've asked before and had no answer. So, here I go again. I just want to
change my default LANG environment environment from pt_BR.UTF-8 to
pt_BR. I've tried changing /etc/sysconfig/i18n and it worked for the
text mode consoles, but it didn't work for applications on X, like
xterm, etc.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
Joao.

apache RewriteRule

2003-06-13 Thread João Borsoi Soares
Hello all,

I'm not being able to implement a RewriteRule in apache and would like
some help of you.

I want all access to files in a specific directory to be done through a
php script. For example, if the users access doc/node1.html, I want it
to be changed to doc/script.php?fileName=node1.html

I've tried many things and got no success. Sometimes I god bad request
error. On others the browser seemed to be in loop.

First, I thought it was going to be something like:

Alias /docs "/home/http/docs/"

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ script.php?fileName=$1

But I was wrong. I got an error like:
"The requested URL /home/http/docs/script.php was not found on this
server."

Without the rewrite rule I can access the script with no problems.

I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Joao.

Re: hibernate

2003-05-31 Thread João Borsoi Soares
I'm using RH 7.3, kernel 2.4.18-26.7.x. But it seems not to suport full
hibernate:

from man apmd I got:

   suspend [ system | user ]
Invoked when the APM driver reports that system
suspension has been initiated. The second parame
ter indicates whether the BIOS or a user action
(such as closing a laptop) initiated suspension.

The BIOS "suspend" mode aggressively conserves
power, and normally involves shutting off power to
all devices except the CPU core and memory, which
is kept in a very low power mode. Most laptops can
stay suspended, using battery power alone, for sev
eral days. ("Hibernation" is a kind of super-sus
pend, where all that state is written to disk and
the machine uses even less power bcause it can turn
off that CPU core, using no battery power at all.
here==> At this writing, Linux does not support hiberna
tion.) PCMCIA devices should be manually suspended
using cardctl(8), and some modular drivers may need
  to be unloaded.

But this writing is from Jun 1999. So, now it may work. But how do I
invoke it from bash?

João.

Sorry, but I think it's possible to use email based rules in

2003-02-14 Thread João Borsoi Soares
Hello list.

I want to use an anti-spam feature in my sendmail. I tried:

FEATURE(dnsbl,`relays.osirusoft.com')dnl

and it works fine. The problem is that one of my clients are in the
blackhole list, but he is not a spammer. Actually it is a problem with
his ISP. He uses dynamic IP. I wonder if there is some how to relay my
client based on his e-mail address, not considering the anti-spam
feature only for him. I already have his email at /etc/mail/access, and
he still get blocked.

Thanks a lot.

I want to make a link for my user to download a pdf file. But I don't
want the browser to open it, just download it.

Take a look at the following link:

You can see the user may choose to open or download a pdf file. That's

Yes I've read. And I could write CDs normally. Even after boot. I'm
having problems only with the link /dev/cdrom, which doesn't affect
cdrecord. In the same document you've mentioned, it's written just
bellow your paste:

"If your CD-writer is the only CD-ROM attached to your machine, then
remember you have to access the CD-ROM in the writer through the device
file /dev/scd× where ×=0,..,8. You may want to change the symbolic name
cdrom to point to the new device file name. The listing below shows the
command to achieve this with the example scd0.

cd /dev && rm cdrom && ln -s scd0 cdrom"

That's my problem! I can change the link /dev/cdrom to /dev/scd0 but at
boot, it gets back to /dev/hdd, which is not used anymore.

Thanks again,

intrasystems.com.br is resolvable... but not reverse
resolvable. I guess the problem is when my sendmail
connects to redhat SMTP server. It seem that it tries
to figure out who am I (reverse DNS) from my IP. And
than, it does not get to intrasystems.com.br... it
gets to the name my ISP gave me instead.
