Last we tried NFS on Netware it didn't work. We're primarily Novell here, with Linux running as the webserver. The users all have their Novell drive maps. The Linux box mounts the entire VOL on a mount point, and Apache is set to use a directory within VOL as the DocRoot. Apache then happily serves the data, and the users have their drive maps. And its not too slow either. -- Duncan Hill Sapere aude One net to rule them all, One net to find them, One net to bring them all, and using Unix bind them. -- To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
RE: Netware Support
This too would be a solution to my situation. If I have a web server running linux and apache, could I not export via nfs the filesystem where the website is located and mount these on the Netware box (just opposite what you are doing). Would this not make web access faster than mounting the fs from the netware server. I am looking for speed on the linux box, but ease of access to the Novell users, in other words it would be greate if when the building web manager logged in one drive was their website and they could drop and drag files to the web server. Any Ideas or better solutions. Thanks, Chad > It was dropped. Novell do provide NDS 8 for Linux, but it is still in > a beta testing stage. Re: Netware Support
I would find it hard to beleive that Caldera would drop Netware support. Caldera was an offshoot from Novel, and is the "Officially Netware Compatible" distro. The only one that can claim that. I'm a long time NetWare user, too. I don't have extensive experience with MARS, but I'd test everything. Especially if you're doing more than file/print. If you're running any database type apps, be wary of locking. MARS may not support the full range that NetWare does, causing some apps (like Access and FoxPro) to corrupt DBs. Caldera had a NetWare for Linux product that emulated NetWare much more closely, but I think that's a dead product now. Check their site: http://www.calderasystems.com. Re: Netware support and Linux
Yes, The fact is that mars-nwe is a novell 3.11(3.12) emulator. There is really only one config file which is a little tricky to tweak but is doable. I was under the impression that mars_nwe was to connect TO Netware x.xx servers. Are you saying that it will allow my Linux to 'become' a Netware server? (through emulation?).
