[Repeater-Builder] XLINK BT, Blue Tooth for Cell Phone Connection to Repeaters at the site

2010-01-23 Thread bbedoe

Hi Eric, John and the Group!

Saw you post about the Xlink BT. Neat Idea! I never thought of Blue
Tooth. I picked up one of these little guys on Ebay last week and started to
experiment with it. Seems kind of nice. It should work out, .. Any
suggestions so I do not reinvent the wheel?

Like John, WA3ZGL said in his post, My Club is trying to cut club costs
and the repeater phone line is too high because we have to pay commercial
rates. More than $40 a month (taxes eat up almost half!!) Trust me, I have
tried to get this changed, no luck! We want to use it for repeater control
and
autopatch. Yes, some guys still use it, I think it was also the same guys
that didn't want PL in their radio too! (only joking, Flame suit ON!!) I
have a family plan phone service, so the extra cell is about $15 after
taxes. That should save the Club around $ 300 a yr.

Over the years I have tried to explain to cell carriers what I wanted to
do, I told them I had a fax machine at a job site trailer without phone
service and wanted to hook it up to my cell phone. It was an easy explanation,
try explaining a wide coverage repeater and a repeater controller!! (Hi Hi)
All I get was that deer in the headlight stare from those 18 year old
kids and when they bring out the old timer expert (maybe 25-ish, same thing)
.. when did we become middle aged?

Anyway, any special ideas or suggestions on using this little guy?

Anyway great post!

73, Brian WD9HSY

Flame suit on! I insulted Hams without PL, still use autopatch, don't
have control receivers, people under 30, all of us middle age guys, deer, and
fax machines! (HI HI) Taxman?

[Repeater-Builder] ANDREW 7/8 Hardline Question

2009-08-16 Thread bbedoe
Hi All,

I have a fellow ham who has asked me about some 7/8 Andrew hardline he has
received.
This hardline appears to have solid Aluminum center.

On the cable it says: ANDREW 36060-40 44250 8/81 DOE NV-RF-19 REV-2

We believe that this may have been used in microwave applications.

Any ideas?
Thanks

[Repeater-Builder] Micor Exciter TLD5803 BPR Securenet

2009-02-07 Thread bbedoe
Hi there!

I'm playing with a Securenet VHF Micor repeater and moving down to the 146.
This unit I believe was running around 164. I've played with the exciter
and I believe it is to far out of range to work down at 146.

Is it safe to assume that in the model number of TLD5803 that I should be
looking for at 5801, or maybe a mid range 5802? I'm OK on the RX side so far.

Being Securenet, I'm not as sure on all the numbers, but I have lots of old
Micor boards to put in, but I'd like to try to keep it secure, if possible.

Any Securenet pro's out there?

Incase you should ask the cards are: DVP ENCODE MOD, SECURENET PROCESSOR,
SECURENET DECODER, 4 FREQ CONTROL MODULAR, SQ GATE, GUARD TONE DECODER, F1 PL
CONTROLER, TIME OUT, SECURENET STATION CONTROLER, AND LINE DRIVER.

Any ideas?

[Repeater-Builder] Ritron Repeaters

2008-10-03 Thread bbedoe
Hi All!

I have a couple of Ritron UHF repeaters here and kind of curious if anyone
has had a chance to screw around with these little job site repeaters. Anyone
moved them to the ham bands? For their age, I was surprised they worked,
had clean audio and rated output. New rocks are $21 each from ICM, not too bad.

The two I have is a Repeater Plus and a Responder II. One is at 15 watts
and the other at 3 watts. Both do repeat and are PL.

I checked the Ritron website, no info on these guys. I don't have any
manuals. oh well!

Yepp, its 70's and 80's tech, but what the heck, the sunspot cycle is still
low!

73, Brian WD9HSY

Before we flame, my repeaters are Micors and I know these are not top of
line, but they are not a couple of hundred pounds either!

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Programing issues, my SCOM 7K's DTMF tones

2008-06-17 Thread bbedoe
Hi Skip and all the guys!

The 7K is working just fine. It seems that I have locked out all responses,
all the id's are off, no time announcements, no normal announcements (I was
programming it to do just that, minimum responses!)

The weird thing right now is the controller hears the DTMF, mutes when it
decodes the DTMF, but is not executing the commands. If I send a macro to
tell
me the time or turn the system on or off, (on the phone line or over the
air) the 7K mutes the tones, but doesn't execute the command. I did not
change
any of the priorities of the receivers, just shortened up everything so that
when this weekend's special event happens, the 7K system is a linked/slave to
Tom's 7330. We are linking 3 or 4 systems together for a special event.

I just do not want to hit the MAGIC BUTTON . COLD RESET!!!

Anyway, it looks like I fat-fingered something, and a reset is called for, I
just don't really look forward to it.

My 7K is more than a decade old, was a version 1.14 now its a 2.03b. It is
rock solid. It is the heart of my system, controls 2 repeaters (the other
system is also now in this same condition too!)

I love it! Thanks Bob the gang at SCOM for this great product!

[Repeater-Builder] Programing my 7K DTMF issues

2008-06-16 Thread bbedoe
Hi All!

This is Brian, WD9HSY and I'm having a problem with my 7K.

I was programming my 7K to work with another system for a joint radio
operation. I was configuring the 7K to basically play dumb. I was programming
a
macro to put the 7K into a no ID, no Courtesy Beep mode to let my buddies'
7330, (yes I said 7330) control the system

Anyway, while I was programming the 7K I have seemed to have turned off the
DTMF's ability to decode. The 7K will answer the phone, make a voice
announcement, but wont accept any DTMF codes, and hangs up on me after 40
seconds.
DTMF are not accepted anywhere, either on rx1, rx2, or the phone line.

All I was doing was turning off the Courtesy beep, shortening the hang time
and pausing the scheduler.

Help!
Brian, WD9HSY

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Stationmaster Ant...to use or not???

2008-02-20 Thread bbedoe
Hi Carl!

I had a similar concern a few years back when I got a free site that had a
460 Stationmaster on top of the tower. Being Free and already in place I said
sure and but the antenna on the air (140 ft LDF5 hardline) The gurus
informed me that on a Vertical like the Station Master will introduce downtilt
of
about 2 degrees per 10 megs in freq. So I had around 3-4 degrees of
downtilt. but it was free and in place, so I lived with it for a few years

If you can pickup a DB Dipole style antenna (DB420, 404, 408) downtilt is
not an issue even if the freq is off, just reduced gain.

I replace that Station master with a DB408 a few years back and even thou it
had less gain there was no down tilt so my range did not suffer.

I'd wait for a dipole 1st!

Have I confused you yet?

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Audio/squelch question (with audio sample)

2007-12-05 Thread bbedoe
Hi Jeff,

I have experience similar noises on my Micor repeater that turned out to be
a old antenna with minute cracks in the aluminum causing arcing during
transmit that the receiver was picking up. I changed out just about
everything but
the antenna and STILL HAD THE NOISES!. The finial test that made me to
decide to change out the antenna was a simple one. I shut down the
transmitter
and just listened to the input of the repeater via its receiver, no noise,
pops! TX on pops, TX off gone!

Also, loose and corroded parts around the antenna can also cause this
arcing. Check anything near the antenna.

Hope this helps!

Re: [Repeater-Builder] 19 rack positioning question

2007-11-24 Thread bbedoe
Hi Barry,

My 2 cents! A 100 watt Micor lofts along regardless of temp. If you can
stand it, so can a Micor. Not all of us have 72 degree air conditioned, clean
rooms! If your PA has the BIG heatsink, its continuous duty, the mobile
heatsink need some cooling because they are only rated at 35 watts tops!

Before starting this into my Micor horror stories, I have had 100 watt V's
and U's Micor in building penthouses where it was more than +130 degrees, and
one in a grain silo -15 degrees below zero with 3 ft of ice in the lowest
level. My biggest concern in the hot house was not dripping sweat on the
radio. There was a thread here a few years back about your favorite varmint
found living or otherwise in your radio cabinet!

I have tried to follow the pictures in the Moto manuals, Duplexers on the
bottom, PA's on top.

[Repeater-Builder] Micor UHF PA control line question

2007-11-18 Thread bbedoe
Hi All,

I have an application were I am using a 10 watt GM300 to drive a Micor 75
watt PA. I have a couple of concerns about this and I thought it would be
better to ask the group than to blow up the PA and the GM300 (good idea,
right?)

I set the GM300 for 1.5 watts drive (Is 1.5 watts ok for a 0-10 watt GM300?)

I connected the control line to A+ ( the book says 6-10 v, but I've told
this is OK, I question that logic.)

Keyed up, 105 watts! Turned GM300 to 1 watt, got 90, 3/4 watt got 80!

OK, I'm blowing smoke, but I'm afraid of white smoke in cabinet! I would
like to get this drive back to 1.5 -2 watts (protect the GM300 and prevent
spurs) and get this PA back down to 70 watts

Any easy way to control the control line?

I'm missing something easy here, so flame suit is on!

Contains no copper

I live just south of Orland Park, IL (Andrew's old Corporate office) I had
the opportunity a few years back to pick up some LDF5. While on the
property I saw 2 - 30 yard dumpsters side by side by one of the manufacturing
buildings. The 1 dumpster had all sizes of scrap, bent, damaged heliax from
1/4
superflex to 3+ inch air cable. It was ready to overflow, and no piece was
larger than 6 ft.

The other 30 yard dumpster was almost full of pure scrap copper from the
manufacturing process. The noon time sun made the dumpster look like it was
on
fire from the shiny copper!

Blinded by the light! What a sight!

them that go for the full 5 minutes and then mute. (Not very good during a net)

During severe weather, I think that a WX radio hooked to a repeater with
automatic on off would be the best choice.

Has anyone played with either of these Radio Shack 12-250 and 12-261 WX
Radios? This seems to be the way to go.

As per the legal question.. I'm no legal eagle, but if I'm going to read

Chris,

You bring up an interesting point. I simplified my previous response
because the poster had a DVP station he wanted to use for conventional
operation. In this scenario, it really wouldn't matter which exciter or
receiver board was installed. The reverse scenario, that of operating a
conventional station in a digital mode, is something I did not address. I
certainly agree that the exciter and receiver from a DVP station are the
best choice for digital modes.

Eric,
If you have the DVP manual could you check the part numbers on the IF

flatness and group delay to be able to pass 12KB securenet data without
distortion. I have been looking for a DVP Micor to find out if I could use

[Repeater-Builder] Looking for Info on a Micor Special

2007-05-17 Thread bbedoe
Hi All,

Brian here! I have picked up a Micor RT repeater, a model C73RXB3106BT,
nothing special about it being a 100 watt VHF repeater except that it is a
DVP,
securenet repeater.

Does anyone out there have any experience with this little bugger?

The unit was up in the 160's so I'll field strip some of my 146 parts to get
it down, but are there any pitfalls that I may be missing here. Is it
compatible with a plain old analog voice repeater?

[Repeater-Builder] [Motorola-Micor] Looking for info on a Micor Special

2007-05-17 Thread bbedoe
Hi Eric,

Thanks for the info! I have converted a number of micors over the year and
this DVP unit seems interesting. Luckily I have all the modules, but no
channel elements, (based on the fed agency, I can see why)...

While visiting the Hara Arena this weekend, I'll be looking for some CE's
around the 164-166 range for testing. BTW does a DVP unit still take K1005,
K1007 elements? I HAVE NOT TAKEN THE GOLDEN SCREWDRIVER TO IT!! Not even to
peer inside, what will I find, PL or DPL?

Thanks again!
Brian

*

Brian,

I acquired several Micor DVP (Digital Voice Protection) stations that were
removed from Government service, and have some experience converting them to
clear voice operation. The primary problem to confront is that the
backplane and the station control module are different from the unencrypted
Micor stations. A DVP station will have a TLN5979 backplane interconnect
board, while a normal station uses a TLN5644 backplane. The DVP station
control module (SCM) is a TLN5970, which will not work with the TLN5644
backplane. The normal Micor SCM is a TLN4635, which will not work with the
TLN5979 backplane. The bottom line here is that you must use the proper SCM
with the backplane you have installed in the station.

If you intend to control your Micor station with an aftermarket controller,
you probably can make the appropriate connections to the backplane and do
without the majority of the plug-in modules. Just be aware that the audio
path is different between the DVP and non-DVP backplanes, so the jumpers
will be different.

The manual you need for your station is 6881036E40 which, unfortunately, is
no longer available from Motorola. However, I have a virgin copy of that
manual, and am in the process of scanning it into PDF for posting on the
RBTIP site.

There is already a wealth of information about converting a commercial-split
Micor repeater to the 2m band, on the Repeater-Builder site. I am
cross-posting this response on that list so that others can help you with
the conversion.

[Repeater-Builder] Looking for info on TPL UHF Power Amp PA6-1AE 19 Rack Mt

2007-05-13 Thread bbedoe
RE: Looking for info on TPL UHF Power Amp PA6-1AE 19 rack mount.

Hi All!

I recently P/U this amp. Unfortunately, TPL lists many versions of the PA6
on their web site:
_http://www.tplcom.com/_ (http://www.tplcom.com/)This list has a number
of packages that this amp comes in. I have a 19 rack version about 7 high.
It appears that I have an older model not on their site. I have an email
also pending with them sent yesterday.

Here is what I got so far: There is no model number, serial number, ranges,
etc on this package!

-- I have some older version of the 400-512 MHz amp similar to the PA6 with
the RS package The RS package has vertical fins, this one seems older with
horizontal fins. No Fans! The Heat sink covers the entire front of the unit.

-- I could only generate low power up to 450 MHz and got 4 in 60 watts out
8 in 75 watts out at 443 450
I saw no difference in output at 443 450 but the guy had 4 watt 464 rpt
(some no name, data rpt'er, this amp may have been part of this package!) TPL
currently offers amps in the 6 in 100 watt out range.

Anyway, Any one have any experience with these little guys? Access to old
sales brouchers, tune up instructions and the like? Any help would be great

Thanks, Brian WD9HSY

[Repeater-Builder] SAME WX Radios

2007-05-09 Thread bbedoe
Hi All

Speaking of WX Radios with SAME There seems to be 2 basic types of these
radios.

Some play the audio for around 5-10 minutes and shut down (just seems to be
a timer in the WX Radio) and some shut down after they receive the mute
command over the air from the NWS right after the bulletin ends.

It would seem to me that I would want a WX Radio to do the announcement and
then SHUT UP! Especially if the weather is bad.

Is that Midland WR-100 a timed radio, or one that responds to the tones?
If not, any suggestions?

[Repeater-Builder] GM300 programing question

2006-03-25 Thread bbedoe

Hi All! OK, its silly question time!

Background:

I use a number of UHF Maxtracs for GR300 type operations, links what have
you. I have had no problems programming the little buggers with a pentium
1 233 computer (maybe its a little fast of a computer)

I recent pick up a few UHF GM300's. The 1stradio I was able to
read, change, program all 8 modes with no problems. I did some on air
QSO's. All was well except I programmed a friends repeater wrong. went
back in changed the FREQ, saved it back to the radio, it beeped at me like
normal butnow itis now DOA no TX/RX. The radio powers up, I
can go thought all 8 modes (it originally had only 2) but no TX or RX.

I rebooted the computer, reread theradio (all 8 new modes were there)
programmed it again, beeped likenormal. still dead!
GRR!

Yes, I'm aware that Maxtrac and GM300 software is different. I'm
aware of the speed issues, hence the concern that the pent 1 233mhz being a
little fast, but I've had no problems with the Maxtracs. The radios are
beeping like normal at the end of the reads/programing, and I'm not getting any
error codes.

Any ideas?

Been there, done that! You may need to check the bandpass

[Repeater-Builder] DB 224 DB404 -- Maybe a silly question!

2005-08-27 Thread bbedoe

OK, I've put on my Flame retardant suit, so it is duck and cover

Has anyone put a 404 and a 224 on the same mast?

I may have a space constraint, hence the question. If I did this, the
224 would have the elements lined up for 9db pattern and the 404 would be
broadside to 224, or put another way, if the 224 elements are faced north, the
404 would be east-west.

I'm thinking about putting the 404 at the bottom of the 224 mast for
strength, any thoughts?

Yes, my main concern is interaction between the 2-50 watt repeaters.
I would love to put the 404 on top, like the db model , but height and mast
strength are my concern.

I prefer medium raw, so easy on the flames!!

[Repeater-Builder] Telewave Products

2005-06-09 Thread bbedoe

Hi again!

Oh boy, 2 questions for the group in 2 days for me!

Does anyone have any experience with Telewave Antennas, like their 4 or 8 pole on 2 meters? They seem to be priced right up there with DB.

I love the 44 Wattmeter, but I've never played with the antennas.

Thanks, Brian, WD9HSY

[Repeater-Builder] WEATHER RELATED STATIC

2005-06-08 Thread bbedoe

Let's talk about static! Hi everybody!

I'm experiencing high static levels in our repeater that appears to develop ahead and during serve weather outbreaks. Other times it seems perfectly fine.

Could be precipitation static? Wind bouncing the antenna around? Internal grounding problems?

A couple of weeks ago we found that water had gotten into the 1/2 hardline (Andrew) We replaced the heliax, and have a great standing wave on the antenna and are looking for some ideas on this.

What do we got? 40 watt Micor Repeater,4 pole antenna (yes, its getting old)! SCOM 7K, Sinclair hybrid ring duplexers.

Any Ideas? Have any questions?
Thanks All!

Re: [Repeater-Builder] WEATHER RELATED STATIC

2005-06-08 Thread bbedoe

DESCRIBE THE STATIC..

Maybe static is the wrong word... Its more like loss of signal, like mobiles becoming HT's and HT's without antennas!

Like the receiver wants to hide ... (Hi, Hi)

My only concern about wind vibration is that the antenna hasn't been played with. We have windy days, but it's much worst during weather outbreaks! No where near as bad as just a windy day.

Thanks all!

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Micor mobile transmitter

2005-05-10 Thread bbedoe

Hi There!

Micor mobiles do not like be lowered below 2/3 rated output.. they like to go boom!

I had a couple of 100 watters that both went funny even thought I had them in the 60-65 watt range. they were replaced with 40 and 60 watters and those micors are still playing today. I have a fan blowing 100% of the time across the heatsink.I think I have them set at 25 and 40 respectfully.

I adjust power with the level control.

Hope that this helps!

[Repeater-Builder] Inside a Flag pole Tower

2005-03-04 Thread bbedoe

Hello All,

Has anyone had the opportunity to be inside a disguise antenna tower?

A cell company is proposing to erect a Flag pole at the site I'm at with
itscell antennas, and the UHF users inside the Pole. The pole is a
20 inch diameter fiberglass pole with mounts inside the tower for the
users.

I don't have the specs on the tower, but given the choice of being put
off the building or inside the tower... I guess you see my choice... Hi,
Hi!!

My only thought is that if the tower is invisible to Cell RF 445 should
be OK, right?

Thanks
BJ

[Repeater-Builder] Low Power on VHF/UHF Maxtracs

2004-08-19 Thread bbedoe

Hi All

Here is a simple question or two. Consider these questions for both
VHF/UHF. These questions are based with the idea of using a maxtrac as a
low power (2-10 watt) link.

Can a maxtrac, (unlike a Micor) be turned down in power without bothering
the finals?
At what power if any is a Maxtrac heatsink rated for continuous duty?

I'm looking at 2-10 watts from 25-40 watt radios and yes they will have
cooling fans!

Thanks!

[Repeater-Builder] Mixing and Swapping Micor VHF/UHF TX/RX

2004-07-29 Thread bbedoe

Hi All!

I'm thinking about remote crossband link receivers (RX-VHF TX-UHF or TX-VHF
RX-UHF)

I've been duplexing Micor mobiles for a few years now and I'm curious if
there are any pitfalls putting Micor UHF RX's in a MicorVHF Mobile.

I know that the UHF RX's "make the signal" for the UHF TX (there is no
channel element for TX),so putting a VHF RX in an UHF Micor won't
fly.

Physically it should be plug and play, but I'm concern if there are any
"special" concerns I've missed like audio characteristics, deviation, pre/flat
audio..

Flame suit is on... come and get me! (it seems doing this with a
Mastr II would be easier)

Have fun!

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Motorola R100 - changing PL

2004-05-25 Thread bbedoe

Hi there!

OK, the R100 is either PL or DPL from the factory, not both, and to field change from DPL to PL it isa very hard event ... you need to change some prom that is nearly impossible to get. I've seen a few of these proms pop up on eBay and sell for $50-$100 each.

If you are lucky and have a PL R100, the tone is changed under the software just after you program in the freq.

The R100 was one of the 1st software programmable radios and the software is simple but a pain to work with.Like early DOS software you have to learn to understand it's simple command structure because the documentation is sparse to say the least.

One last thing, when you get the software and are using it, make sure you are using a slow, slow, slow computer. The software is 1980s vintage and you must use a slow DOS machine with it. I just get by with a 233 Pent1 ... you really should use a 486 machine!

If you have a DPL R100 the best you can do for PL is to run the R100 in carrier and rig an outboard TS32 or TS64 with it.

Hope this helps!

[Repeater-Builder] Maxtracs as Repeaters, some Questions

2004-05-22 Thread bbedoe

Hi All!

As the title suggests, I have a couple of questions about the use of Maxtracs as repeater radios, links, etc. I'm a die hard Micor man with 3 Micor and 1 Mastr II repeaters on the air so forgive me as I movefrom 1970s to1990s technology! Hi Hi!! I hope these don't sound to elementary.

1. I've seen the MRT articles for linking 2 maxtracs together, besides theRICK and these adapters, has anyone rig a full blown controller, say a Scom 7k to these bad boys using the 16 pin plug on the back?

2. Under the software control of these radios (RSS) can the RF power out be dialed down low enough as not to mess the finials and still drive an external PA? Low enough maybe to drive a Micor 60-100 PA. (In the Micor, if you turn the power down to low the finals don't like it... a lot!)

3. Not being as robust as a micor/mastrII, what about heat, cooling, fans? Do these radios have any kind of continuos duty rating?

4. Some have called these radios "barn doors" for being so wide open on the front end. Has this been a problem? Can they be preselected? This was a good thing on the Micors!

5. What other pit falls have I missed?

A couple of Club members in our weather spotter group are crossbanding an UHF to VHF maxtracs to get back to the repeater and it sounds good and is surprising simple (KISS) to rig and operate. It almost seems to simple.

I know this is basically a GR300 so how do they compare?

They have done their homework so now I need to do mine!

Thanks all!
Keep the flames to a minimum!

[Repeater-Builder] Severe Weather vs. Repeater Performance

2004-04-07 Thread bbedoe

Hi All!

My Weather Spotters are mad at me! Help!

Are there any technical papers out there that describe repeater/radio performance as a function of heavy rain / thunderstorms / severe weather? Where the weather is an attenuation of RF?

Let me describe the scenario.

As we all know its tornado season and as the weatherturns bad,all the spotters and spotter want to be's show up for the weather nets. When the weather hits the area and the storms are moving throughthe coverage area of the repeater, it's rangedrops off. Some of my spotters claim the coverage area drops up to 50%!

We have talked about the silly stuff:

1. Ht's don't work well inside your car, when you are trying to stay out of the rain.
2. Ht's that are marginal when the weather is good don't work better in bad weather.
3.Bases don't work well inside your house, when you disconnect the base antenna for an indoor antenna.
4. Mobiles don't work well from inside your garage or when you are under a highway overpass!

As for the repeater, it is on our wish list to upgrade the current 10 year old 4-pole antennawith new. I have joking suggested if someone would like to go and check the VSWR during a storm they have my permission! Suprisingly, no takers! The repeater is a 40 watt Micor.

Assuming the antenna is OK and the silly stuff is not going on, here are my questions:

1. How does severe weather affect short term range?
2. Is it the rain alone, or the moisture on everything?
3.Does lightning effect the noise floor enough to drown out weak signals?

I remember reading a paper back in college that describe broadcast signal RF attenuation in deep woods and forests as an effect of the leaf canopy, and the moisture of the rain/dew on the leaves and its effects during the summer vs. winter months (winter has no leaves to effect RF)

Any Help and ideas would be great!
Sorry for the long post!
Respectfully,
Brian, WD9HSY

[Repeater-Builder] Link Receivers and LDG RVS-8

2003-12-18 Thread bbedoe

Hi Everybody!

I have a couple of our Club members that want to experiment with some linking and the RVS-8 voter. They want to play with some cross-banding radios to a few link receivers and then thevoter. After a long discussion I came up with a few questions that I want to ask the group:

1. Are there any group of radios that make better link receivers than others? There are lots of surplus rock bound UHF Moto radios out here, (Moxy, Maxar, Flexar) For those of you that have played with these, any pro's and con's? Conversion? COR? PL decode, stripping PL and encoding? Cystal/Channel Element cost? Flat Audio? Interfacing with voters?

2. I've converted my fair share of Micor's and Mastr II's over the years. Is there any benefit in using these radios over those other radios or would I be better off playing with say, some Spectra Tac receivers?

The last thing I want to do is reinvent the wheel! The group's expertise is a good thing! I personally like a stand alone repeater, but the guys want to experiment, so I want to point them in the right direction, so any thoughts would be great!

Happy Holidays!
