[Repeater-Builder] Re: Desense Problem on 222 MHz Repeater

2008-01-25 Thread Richard Sharp, KQ4KX
One issue may very well be the insufficient isolation considering the TX
power level. If you really want to run that much power I'd highly recommend
having bandpass filter(s) between the PA and the duplexer - this will help
reduce broadband noise from the PA. Bandpass filter(s) between the receiver
and the duplexer can't hurt either - especially if you're using a pre-amp on
the receiver. Oh, another thing - if the receiver natively has a
sensitivity of .2uV or better the pre-amp may not help anything but raise
the noise floor. If this repeater site is relatively close to (within
several miles) of a TV channel 12 or 13 (analog or digital) I'd STRONGLY
recommend installing a window filter on the antenna side of the duplexer.
The window filter will greatly reduce the "out of band" signal levels for
both the transmitter & receiver which will reduce and/or eliminate any IMD
issues from those sources. DCI is one manufacturer of window filters for
HAM bands (www.dci.ca).

Some folks get all weird about inserting so many filters because they don't
"want all that loss." What they don't realize is even with an additional
3dB of IL if it lowers the noise floor for the repeater "system" by 20dB
you've made a HUGE improvement in the overall performance. Also, by having
250W transmit power you can easily take a hit and still have a respectable
ERP.

Good luck and remember.your mileage may vary.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Desense Problem on 222 MHz Repeater

2008-01-30 Thread Richard Sharp, KQ4KX
Yeah, of course you'd want to order any filter optimized for your
application. Yes, DCI markets products for the Amateur market but they also
have a lot of products for commercial markets. I have indeed used some of
their products (HAM & commercial) and have had very good results. Hi-Q
bandpass cavities is absolutely the best thing for frequency specific
filtering between the TX & RX ports of a duplexer and the transmitter &
receiver but a "window" filer is going to be more appropriate for the
antenna side of the duplexer. DCI is not the only one out there that makes
window filters either. If you're going to use split antennas a window
filter would not be needed.

As I think a couple of others have already mentioned a spectrum analyzer is
a necessary tool in today's RF environment to make sure you're being a good
"RF neighbor" as well as finding external sources of IMD too.

"Nate Duehr" wrote:

Careful. I've looked over their product line and their stock filters
have published SWR numbers that don't look good for high 147 and low 145
repeaters... they tend to be made for the center of the band for the
end-users, not for repeaters.

The skirts on even their 4 MHz wide filters start to roll off if your
machines are at either end of the spectrum.

Check carefully if you choose to use their filters, or call them and ask
them if they'd tune them lower/higher (probably for a charge).

Better yet, buy big, real, high-Q bandpass cavities and don't mess
around with these little things made for hams at home.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Super Stationmaster Omni Fiberglass Antenna, information

2008-04-22 Thread Richard Sharp, KQ4KX
Joe,

If you look at the PDF from the link that was provided you'll find that it
IS the spec sheet for the 220-2 which is the 142-150MHz version of the Super
Stationmaster antenna. The 25-299.9 frequency reference you're seeing is
the "category" of antennas that Celwave is putting this antenna in since
it's a VHF band antenna (VHF - 25-299.9 MHz). Look further down on the PDF
document and you'll find the specific specifications for the 142-150 MHz
version. No, I'm not aware of a lowband Super Stationmaster antenna but
they do have other models of antennas for lowband that are in the same
25-299.9 category. The other link showed the various versions of the Super
Stationmaster denoted by the different suffixes (220-1, 220-2, etc.).

Richard

I'm wondering why I'm hearing them on the HAM's 900 band.

I'm using a receiver that is designed to go from 100 Kcs to 1500 Mcs. Its a

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Kenwood Repeaters

2004-09-10 Thread Richard W. Solomon
Good reasons = $

Instead of helping out the Amateur community, who on that rare occasion
does perform some valuable public service, they would just as soon gouge
everyone equally.

They just don't understand the market and good will they could generate.
How many repeater users would like to use a nice new repeater instead
of some cobbled up pile of obsolete radios ??

End of rant, I now go back to building another 902 repeater from someones
castoff radios.

I've been told the repeater itself has both a builtin controller and

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Doug Hall RBI-1 question

2004-10-24 Thread Richard D. Reese

Ken;

I have a DH that feed remotes on 146, 222, 440, and 1292 and have on
occasion had them get confused. This has always been after a hit on the
power prior to my installing battery backup. When the reset is don all it
will do is default the DH RBI-1 to the first remote. In my case the 2 meter
one.

When an inquiry is done and the controller responds with, in your case,
146.520 the remote will be placed on 146.520. Also if a reset command is
sent to the controller it will also place the remote on the default
frequency. I use a Link Communications RLC-3.

Thanks AllSounds like I'd better go with some
sort of hard line for my between unit RF interconnects to keep between
cable leakage to tolerable limitsand probably noise too. But this brings
up another issue: forgetting about noise for the moment ---how can a 214 type

than a foil cable listed as 100% shielded?

The big question---what is the most
economical combination of small diameter hard line and an "N" compatible
connector assembly?is there something that can be done with say 1/4"
superflex and the affordable solder through the holes teflon "N" connector
that is similar to the 259 "UHF" connector?what is the best way to
  go?

  And another---I've seen military microwave
gear interconnected with hardline less than 1/4" diameter ---smooth
tubing---with soldered on "N" connectors-like is used in mobile helical
duplexers-is this system suitable and where does it come
from?

2004-12-09 Thread Richard D. Reese

There are 11 channels used as the standard for 802.11b/g.

They are:

Chan 1 2412 GHz
Chan 2 2417 GHz
Chan 3 2422 GHz
Chan 4 2427 GHz
Chan 5 2432 GHz
Chan 6 2437 GHz
Chan 7 2442 GHz
Chan 8 2447 GHz
Chan 9 2452 GHz
Chan 102457 GHz
Chan 112462 GHz

Channels 1 through 8 fall in the Amateur band of 2390 to 2450 GHz.

Just use an encryption key and they will be quite secure from anyone not
authorized. If you have 2.4 GHz phones or video links in use you may have
to hunt for a channel that is not prone to interference. Probably one of
the higher frequencies.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: 802.11b wireless

2004-12-10 Thread Richard D. Reese

Nate is correct in that the frequencies listed were the center freq of each
channel. There are 14 channels. And yes, I forgot the decimal. Oh well I
am old as well as tired. The channels overlap each other in that they are
22 MHz wide ( NO decimal) One can do the math and see which channels edge
falls outside the Amateur band if you wish but if you do not run an
amplifier, who cares.

If my memory serves me 802.11 concept began in the late 80's and there were
two forms approved by the FCC. One was DSSS (Direct Sequenced Spread
Spectrum) that is used today and the other was FHSS (Frequency Hopping
Spread Spectrum) that consisted of 75 channels spaced 1 MHz apart and
traffic jumped between those channels. In 1999 the industry selected
802.11b as the standard with its max 11 Mbps. Of course we now have
everyone pushing the 802.11g that have a maximum of 54 Mbps but we seem to
forget that many access points use 10 base T Ethernet connections so you are
limited to 10 Mbps anyway. Remember as the signal gets noise due to low
signal strength the speed is decreased. I use 802.11g but often have only
Mbps speed due to low signal strength. Still pretty fast as I have seen T1
that was only slightly higher is speed.

With a good antenna it possible to get amazing distance. I have sent video
with p1 picture to my brother Jim,KA8HAK over in Akron 16 miles from me. I
was using 1 watt into 140 feet of 7/8 hard line to a 3 foot dish at 85 feet.
He was using a home brew 44 element linier yagi on a tripod 7 feet in the
air fed with LMR400!

Until last year I had an FM repeater (2.411200 out / 2.431200 GHz in) on the
air. It also ran 1 watt and had a 20 meg split. Worked pretty good but
there were only three of us that could transmit. Jim KZ5AW, my brother Jim
KA8HAK, and myself. Perhaps one day I will put it back on if equipment
become more reasonable and others become interested. Oh well - enough of
the rambling and at least I said something about repeaters..

73

P.S. Nate, I am glad I gave you a laugh at the no decimal. One of my goals
is to make someone laugh each day even if they are only laughing at me! It
was a good day as is most of them..

I just bought a CE-5 on ebay for $205.46, the last one from the same

the picture it looks to be in good condition, but I haven't received
it yet ... a bit of buyer remorse is already starting to set in. I
use to use a CE-3, they are not small or light. I also don't want
to admit how many times I rebuild the attenuator pad!

I saw an IFR 1100A go for $500 just before I started looking, that
strikes me as a much better deal. More recent IFRs have been going
for 1k+. YMMV.

As a controller designer I can recommend the following:

For a single stand alone repeater: NHRC-2
This controller is an excelent value featuring real voice storage.

For a repeater with a link port: NHRC-4
No voice, CW only. But it will run a remote base or link radio and is
cheap so who cares?

For multiple links/repeaters: Arcom RC-210
Features upgradeable in the field firmware and individual DTMF
decoders for all three ports, plus PL decoder logic inputs. Also
includes a big ISD voice storage chip for a nice package all the way
around. I don't own one personally, but have interacted with a couple
in the past 6 months to know they are designed extremlly well, with
about the only thing I don't like is some of the status LED's
occasionally have a slight glow when not active, but if this doesn't
bother you...

Featuring an autopatch: NHRC-10
Basicly take a NHRC-2, NHRC-4 and slap on an autopatch and add more
speech storage and other stuff. This will also interface with certain
radios to provide frequency agile remotes.

Controllers to stay away from:

I've tried ICS a time or two and didn't really like it. I have an ICS
linker and it is a pain to program. kinda buggy too, When you change
the CW ID speed the inter character spacing still stays at about
10WPM, Very humorous. Gonna replace it with a NHRC-4 when I get around
to it.

CAT-300's have good autopatches, but that is about it. Their software
is buggy too. Known to skip letters in the voice ID's unless they
re-wrote it, and it is still that same old school texas instruments
voice from the speak and spell days. Also they will not release their
coding wanting approx $100 to send eproms for a upgrade. I have heard
If you have a friend with a "DX" version you can clone its prom and
change out the clock module and swap a jumper to transform a plain 300
to a 300DX. Programming is a pain, if you forget one charector you
have to start over on a ID string "Keypad data error", unless you pony
up the $60 for the programming software. I have no experience with
their other controllers though, so take a chance!

CES, Need I say more?

Middle of the road:

ACC RC-850's are just plain cool! But generate alot of RFI. Plus the
company is out of buisness so it is a act of congress to find one
living and breathing and if it breaks, it ususally stays broken unless
you wan't to spend the $250 to send it to "The Guy". Programming is
fairly easy with the message editior and most of the commands work
without ABCD touch tones. It is back to the speak and spell days
unless you have a functioning DVR, but on the plus side it can
generate DTMF tones in the courtesy tone generator, you will spend
countless hours driving your local channel cops insane as you play hip
hop DJ and change CT's just cause you can!

Remember: These are my opinions only and you should not base your
buying decision soley on them.

If you don't have a 16 button keypat you don't have a full pad. also
you can download a simple dialer that generates DTMF from the sound
card of a pc and you can use it to program the NHRC2 OR ANYTHING
ELSE THAT TAKES DTMF and the program is free...there are many. You
can even store DTMF strings for sending complete commands from one

with a 12 digit keypad added on.

If you use a Yaesu HT then fine.
But, not many commercial HT's have 16 button pads, especially
at 900 MHz.

Well I called The RF Connection today, asked for the RG-214U Mil spec, was
told they did not have any in stock, that the Government changed the specs
or something, then tried to sell me RG-214/U and told me it was not Silver
but Copper Coated Tin. So would the next best thing be the RG-400?

Get a couple of Motorola Maxtracs, an NHRC-2 Controller and you are set.
EXCEPT, if it's for Public Safety purposes (Fire, Police) then do not
scrimp,

Is the best way to have a mobile repeater up and running with two mobile

recommend ways to cut down on weight and space?
Thanks

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Member Deleted?

2005-03-25 Thread Richard D. Reese

Kevin and all;

I am not often moved to post as I try and remember that which was told to me
as a child - "Richard, you have two ears and one mouth so it would behoove
you to listen twice as much as you talk. Also be mindful of the fact that
the ears are always open and can except input at any time. However, the
mouth has a flap on it and it is ok to close it occasionally." With that
in mind I will try and be as brief as possible.

I am surprised at the implementation of a poll to decide ones continued
membership. I believe the decision should be made by you as the list owner.
I am of the opinion that whomever is determined to be disruptive to the list
or, continues to use the list to promote that which is not related to the
purpose of the list, should be warned to cease and desist. They should be
told what the consequences will be in the event they fail to comply. If
that person continues then they should be banned from the list.

I liked Doug's posting regarding free speech. It is refreshing to know that
in this day of so many being concerned about "political correctness" that
there are some (Doug Bade) that have not lost site of reality and that which
is right or wrong when it come to force-feeding ones beliefs and opinions on
another.

There are many on this list involved in communications as a business. Doug
and his dad Cliff W8CJB, own Cleveland Communications and I have never known
them to exploit their membership in this or any other list as a means to
promote their business interest. While we all may be grateful for a
business owner to mention goods or services that they may be able to provide
to list members, there is a fine line that should not be crossed except on
rare occasions. I believe that line has repeatedly been crossed by some.
Those that are guilty should be warned one time. As stated in the first
paragraph, if they continue then banishment is in order.

Now I go back to the listening/reading mode.

[Repeater-Builder] 440 4 Pole Antenna

2005-03-25 Thread Richard D. Reese

I hope Chuck Kelsey sees this - - -

About 15 or twenty years ago there was an article
published in either Ham Radio or perhaps 73 magazine on the construction of a
440 4 pole antenna.  It was written by Chuck WB2EDV if my memory is
correct.

I built one for a friend and he has removed it from
his tower for maintenance.  He is now ready to place it back on the tower
legs and asked me what the spacing is between elements.  Well I cannot fond
the paper work.  I think it was 23 inches on center.  Chuck, is that
correct?

Thanks in advance.

2005-03-26 Thread Richard D. Reese

Well, Thanks to Gerald, Mike and of course you
Chuck.  It is good to know the old memory is still somewhat lucid!  I
should have known to check Kevin's site - it is such a wealth of
information.  I looked at the PDF and I wasn't too far off on the date
September 1987.  Lasted almost 20 years.  Only replacing the harness
and mounting clamps now.

Chuck, somebody on this list is getting old!!
And yes I guess I also have never built anything either...

73 to all and have a great Easter Weekend.  My
sister and brother in-law are due to arrive here in a couple of hours.  We
have an Easter get-together planned so things will get hectic on this
end.

  Yes, you are correct.

But now I have doubts that we actually "built" those
  antennas ;-)

I had to buy the aluminum rod for the elements and
the coax to make the harness instead of manufacturing it from scratch
  ;-)

  Sorry, couldn't resist.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] A Good 440 Anttena

2005-03-28 Thread Richard D. Reese

Chuck is correct. The 413 is 18 ft 4 inches long and is rated 12 dB gain
and rated to survive 1/2 inch ice at 90 mph.

The 411 is 9 ft 5 inches long , 9 dB gain 112 mph wind with 1/2 inch radial
ice.
The 408 is 6.6 dB gain and will survive with 1/2 ice at 85 mph.
The 420 is 9.2 dB gain 18 ft 1 inch long and rated to withstand 70 mph with
1/2 inch ice.

They are all good in my opinion. I have used them all including the DB-404
and they have survived the NE Ohio winters. even with the 420 top mounted
on towers but there is a lot of flex at winds above 60 mph. I never had an
antenna bend but did have on installation where the 420 was top mounted and
the pipe that it was clamped to bent during a storm with gusts in excess of
70 mph.

As far as which antenna to use - It depends on the installation, HAAT, top
mount, side mount, omni pattern, etc.

[Repeater-Builder] GLB / MRF-901

2005-04-12 Thread Richard D. Reese

I have received many requests for the GLB transistor. I only have two left
that are not promised. I will give them to anyone that is willing to make
a donation to OMIK Scholarship Fund.

The transistor is a BFW92 which is a drop-in replacement for the obsolete
MRF-901. I have a PDF data sheet available to anyone requesting it. I have
been told that a 2n6621 will also replace the MRF-901 but I have not tried
that device.

to mute the sub-audible tone generated in the TKR-850?  I would like to

no programming ability to do anything but continuously or none at
all..I have the service manual but thought someone could save me some
time and effort locating the spot. Thanks in advance.

About four years ago I had an old box on my home
for my Verizon North telephone service.  It had the carbons inside from
1969 when the house was constructed.  I started having noise on the lines
and called Verizon.  Told them they  were bad and needed
replaced.  They sent a man out who changed the box to one of the new modern
ones .  No problem - no cost to me.  The only thing was the guy was
new and I had to help him do it properly he did not know what carbons
were!

2006-02-08 Thread Richard D. Reese
Mike;

I am impressed! It is remarkable that you would remember so much detail
after all those years. You are correct in that I had two HT-220's. One on
the police frequencies and the other on the amateur band. I generally
carried both and they were identical except the amateur band unit had a
touch tone pad on the front. On occasion I had three of them with the third
one being in the DEA frequencies. Great coverage on UHF with the DEA
repeaters on the Terminal Tower in Cleveland. I could get into the system
from downtown Canton with the HT-220 and rubber duck!

I guess it pays to take time to speak with young people. You never know
what may result from a few minutes of conversation. Thanks for the
information. It has made my day.

Perhaps We will see each other again some time.

P.S. Danny and I often would do talks together and I would switch off and
get a uniform car to impress the kids. I guess I never realized how much
effect it might have. Danny is not in good health but his spirit is still
good.

73 and take care.

I have two VHF duplexers for sale. Frequency ranges listed are based on the
manufacturers specifications. In the case of the DB products duplexer it
may in fact tune below 150 MHz although, I haven't tried. Since both need 2
MHz separation they may be more useful for other than Ham use? CAP?

Decibel Products DB4056C duplexer - 19" rack mountable VHF 150 ~ 162MHz
duplexer. Minimum frequency separation is 2 MHz. Excellent condition. $150

Sinclair VHF duplexer model V-150-106S - 19" rack mountable VHF duplexer
144 ~ 174MHz. Minimum frequency separation is 2 MHz. Very good condition.
Includes manual.

I can email pictures upon request.

[Repeater-Builder] 2m repeater IMD issue

2004-05-05 Thread Richard Sharp, KQ4KX

Hi
gang,

Our club was allowed
space (no cost) on top of a 400' tower using an existing 7/8" line.  The
existing UHF antenna was replaced (by the club) with a PD220-2 (142~150 range)
antenna.  The coverage is very good.  However, on occasion when users
with HTs or during a squelch tail the IMD is audible.  I have added cavity
filters to both the rx & tx and the IMD is still there.  I've looked at
it with a spectrum analyzer (connected to the rx port of the duplexer) and I do
see IMD when the 2m repeater's tx is on.  Although, since I have the cavity
filters inline the IMD is only noticeable within the passband of the rx
cavity.  The IMD levels are around -90dBm give or take a
couple.

Ok, here's the
source of the IMD.  At the top of this tower is also six other transmit
antennas that are for 800MHz trunk systems.  A total of 30 channels.
The top platform is rather large but the closest 800 antenna to the 2m antenna
is about 5 feet.  The farthest is about 12 feet.  Of course,
these antennas are in the same horizontal plane with the 2m
antenna.

Signal levels in the
800 tx band that I see at the TX or RX port of the 2m duplexer without the
bandpass cavity is about -40dBm.  With the cavity about
-75dBm.

I'm thinking of just
moving the antenna about 50' down the tower (where there's no other antennas
mounted) to eliminate the problem.  My thinking is that with the extreme RF
levels present on the top platform that I'd have to spend a fortune in filters
on the 2m equipment & perhaps the 800 stuff that it'd just be cheaper to
move the antenna from the top.  Any thoughts?

I was looking into a
solution using an isolator but after further research I discovered that a
VHF isolator will ALLOW RF into the 2m transmitter that is in the 800MHz
range.  With the bandpass cavity inline there's no VHF (150~160) or
UHF (450~470) signals that show up on the spectrum analyzer.
Only the co-site 800MHz stuff is getting through the cavity.

Richard

RE: [Repeater-Builder] 2m repeater IMD issue

2004-05-05 Thread Richard Sharp, KQ4KX

Bryan,

No, I
don't have a preamp in the circuit - it would only make things WORSE.
Well, when I add additional cavities it doesn't get rid of the IMD because it's
being generated somewhere else.  When I'm not using a cavity the IMD is all
over the VHF band at about -90dBm.  However, when the cavity is inline the
IMD is only visible within the passband of the rx cavity.  But it's still
there - on channel basically.  I can see carriers appear and disappear on
the rx side when the tx is on.  I'm thinking that maybe the IMD is being
generated on the tower somewhere.  All is the same when I have a bandpass
cavity on the tx side too.  Man, the 800 signals are HUGE up
there!  All the 800 antennas are the Celwave "Penetrator" antennas.
You know, the ones that are 23ft tall and 8 inches diameter, 12 - 15dB
gain.

  Hello Richard,
Have you tried an additional cavity in the rx path? I had
a similar situation with a UHF repeater and 800 mhz systems and
an additional cavity worked for my problem. Also, do you have a preamp?
If so, where in the rx path is it? You should have all the filtering ahead of
  the preamp.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] 2m repeater IMD issue

2004-05-05 Thread Richard Sharp, KQ4KX
Well, I considered that too. However, after further study of isolators (and
discussing my situation with a manufacturer of isolators) I discovered that
a VHF isolator will not stop signals in the 800MHz range from passing
through it. An isolator should work great if I was dealing with several VHF
transmitters at the same level on the tower.

I'm wondering if the IMD is being generated somewhere on the tower,
antenna(s), etc.? A bandpass cavity on the tx drops the 800MHz signal
levels (as seen at the tx port) from -40dBm to -75dBm. I would think levels
of -75dBm "shouldn't" be a problem for the 2m tx? The harmonic filter in
the tx should drop the -75 to nearly nothing - right? That's why I'm
thinking perhaps the IMD is being generated somewhere else. Although, it
does only occur when the 2m tx is on.

tnx
Richard

No, I haven't tried one of those. Although, that's a good idea. And it
happens that I have one available to try.

Well, I was kinda thinking that the bandpass cavity would accomplish the
same thing? Maybe both inline might have a positive effect.

> I also have a dual isolator on the output of my transmitter before it
> goes into my 6 cavity celwave BpBr 2 mtr duplexer.

As mentioned in an earlier post the problem I found regarding using an
isolator is that it only acts like a one way valve around the VHF range. It
will be transparent to 800MHz signals. An isolator would be most effective
if I was dealing with several VHF transmitter antennas in the near field of
the 2m antenna.

When I look at the spectrum plot at the tx port when I have a bandpass
cavity inline there are NO VHF signals visible within the 150-174 range.
There's also no UHF stuff visible. The bandpass filter does a good job of
reducing the VHF & UHF stuff down into the grass. Although, there aren't
any VHF antennas on this tower so the signals that are present are from
distant towers so there not really that strong to begin with.

> You will probably need both the low pass filter in your feed line and

Well, that's what I'm thinking but I thought I'd see if anyone out there had
a "magic bullet" solution without having to relocate the antenna. Although,
perhaps moving the PD220 antenna from the top of the tower would be a good
investment anyway in keeping it intact during lightning season (hi, hi).

Good point. Yes, it only occurs when the 2m repeaters tx is on. Basically,
what I see on the spectrum analyzer (connected to the rx port of the
duplexer) is several signals coming and going within the passband of the rx
cavity (+/- 300kHz approx). I can tune the analyzer to a specific carrier
and hear either voice traffic or control channel. All of these signals are
around -90dBm at the rx port. As soon as the 2m transmitter is turned off
the carriers on the rx port disappear.

At this point no. However, I'm in the process of obtaining all of the 800
freqs to do a calc.

Well, I don't necessarily disagree with using an isolator/harmonic filter.
However, the isolator will not keep 800MHz signals from getting to the
transmitter of the 2m repeater. I'm sure the harmonic filter may reduce the
800 levels some but the isolator isn't going to stop it. Of course, an
isolator will keep other VHF signals from getting back through it but I
don't have any VHF signals that are a problem. The duplexer is a new TX/RX
4 can vari-notch. I've added bandpass cavities on the rx & tx side between
the duplexer & repeater.

I'd don't know exactly how old it is but it is in "good shape" according to
the tower crew. It was previously used by a law enforcement agency before
they switched to the 800 system.

I purchased the PD220-2 antenna new late last year. It was drop shipped
directly from Celwave.

I installed a new polyphaser at the entry port but I haven't tried taking
it out of the circuit to see if it's contributing to the problem. Has
anyone seen a polyphaser do bad things?

Good idea.

The closest antenna to the PD220 is about 4 to 5 feet away.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Sharing a receive site

2004-06-02 Thread Richard D. Reese
Should work fine. I have a site that has receivers for my repeater on
146.085 and, 146.04, 147.735, 147.870, and147.930 Mhz as well. They are all
using the same antenna that feeds a multi-coupler that feeds each receiver.
The multi-coupler makes up for the loss that would otherwise be there due to
adding all of the extra receivers.

All use links to the respective TX sites. Linking is either in the 220 or
440 bands. There are no 2 meter transmitters at the site other than a
frequency agile remote base (2 watts). The site has Amateur repeaters on
927.5375, 444.200, 224.320, 1292.200 Mhz (each duplexed) and a comercial 5
channel trunked system. There are also remote base transceivers on 440,
220, and 1.2 Ghz. They all operate with no problem with each other.

I just bought my DTV converter. NO problems. Period. Using an FM
broadcast turnstile at 20 feet AGL for antenna. No preamp.
Good signals from 8 DTV transmitters/20 video feeds 15-45 miles away.

Not connected to the DTV industry in any way. Just a very happy user.

Wesley,

We had several of these where I used to work. When our units would act up we
would take the cover off and unplug every module and reseat them. This would
resolve the issue about 90% of the time.

  Good Luck.

I've been using Caig's products for about 25 ears.

They work like magic on electronic connectors of all sorts.

I've rescued all sorts of electronics that had been written off as "hopeless".

Yes, even new & gold contacts have problems. Caig stuff cleans, lubes &
maintains.

My favorites are Deoxit D5 and Deoxit Gold G5 (for gold). I usually take
newly acquire gear apart, connector-wise & treat all contacts.

No, I don't own any of their stock, just a satisfied customer. BTW, they had
a table at Dayton, I was able to chat with their tech rep & stock at up good
prices.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Building a Icom repeater HELP !!!!

Hi Matt

I have the same Icoms that you Do. Bought them at Dayton Hamfest for $25
dollars a piece. Bought an Repeater interface ITS-10
from EPCOM,along with the Programming Cable & software for less than a
$100 bill. it works great. Picked up a 4 can Motorola Cavity at
Geotgetown,Oh Hamfest for $100. use (T1501Al) works great with the
Hustler G6-440 Antenna. At 30 feet, my range is 16 Miles. I do use Andrew
Hardline. The ICS-10 is a complete Repeater Interface that plugs into
each Radio. Audio,Keying Cor, 3 second delay.
Years ago when I didn,t shake so bad. Would have done it the Hard Way.
