Will the 4 beta's do the same, being able to update from the 4 beta to the 4 release when it comes out? Sometimes significant issu are found in those as well. (See https://github.com/ElvishArtisan/rivendell/issues/737 for a current example). Re: [RDD] Rivendell v3.3.0
Well Put Rob. Rivendell was meant to be an appliance with a specific purpose running on CENTOS a pro OS. CENTOS is free so what is the issue? As such, Rivendell is one of the most reliable and powerful automation systems on the planet. Why mess with the best. Most of the high priced competitors who are Windows based will NOT run on a Windows Server OS. So my suggestion would be that your time could be better spent in adding new features to Rivendell rather than chasing after mirages. The software is developed to run under CentOS, is not being tested under any other Linux distribution, and it took an immense amount of time and effort on my part to make it run under Debian 10. Even so, sometimes it will compile and sometimes it won't. I can unstall Rivendell, blow out rivendell-3.3.0, gunzip the .tar.gz file to make a virgin rivendell-3.3.0, and recompile the same source code... and it's even money whether or not it will compile. That's not something I can tolerate when I have radio stations clamoring for my attention all day. I had a station call me a week ago; they are owned by a local university which was sending all its students home due to the pandemic, and the faculty adviser said they were going off the air, as they didn't have an automation system. Now, I had an old Debian 6 Rivendell 2.11.0 system I had built several years ago, and offered to run it for them along with a Comrex Access I had bought for another project but had not yet deployed. I kept them on the air when they otherwise would have had to go off, and if I had had to depend on my new Debian system they would have been off for ten days, because that's how long it took me to get it working. Debian 10 is not Debian 6; QT3 will not build under Debian 10, so the only Rivendell choice available is V3. V3 is far more complicated than V2, has a lot more dependencies -- what is it with all this Python stuff? -- and clearly wants to run under CentOS. Yes, if I invest enough time and effort, I can make it run under Debian... but why bother? In your testing with minicom, if you successfully made it work while logged in as the same user that your Rivendell runs on, then this means all the permissions stuff is correct. Not sure if you can use minicom and Rivendell at the same time on a serial port, if it is allowing you to do so, perhaps this is a clue that you don't have Rivendell correctly going to the serial port in the first place. Finally, just checking, you DO have the full path name to the TTL Device in your Serial port setup as in /dev/ttyS0 not just ttyS0? I am setting up a new installation of Rivendell on a server. I loaded the Appliance disk and it went well. Then I installed a Delta 66. I ran the RDALSAConfig utility and it appeared to work. But when I went into RDLogEdit or RDlibrary the audio controls were grayed out. I'm at a loss to understand this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Re: [RDD] Now Playing.txt
Hi Tom; I am have been having the exact same problem for over 2 years now. I've asked for help a number of times and got no real fix. In live radio this is an important and desirable feature. Does anyone have a fix for this or even an explanation? We have even started to remove all commas form song titles. This is an ugly solution as (I'll) becomes(Ill). We have done this by adding the following RML command into the 'Edit Now Next Window' RN echo %a - %t/home/rd1/export/playing.txt! The script works however the script, at irregular intervals, appears to stop working. Upon investigation it looks as though whenever a or an apostrophe enters the title or artist field, it appears to stop working! Hi; I have been having this problem for years. I display the Now Playing cut in the upper right display area of RDAirplay. Whenever I have any text with an apostrophe, the text will not display. What makes this worse is that for some reason the display does not recover (in most cases) on the next cut. Sounds like a simple fix? Re: [RDD] Now Next Issues
Hi; I've been fighting a similar problem for quite a while. In Now and Next output I write the Artist and Title to the display area in the upper left hand corner of RDAirplay via this command LB Now: %a - %t. This seems to work fine as long as here are no punctuation characters i.e. () , ', [] etc. some cause a problem some don't. What happens is that the display just displays Now: with No artist or Title. Sometimes later in the log it will start working again but other times not. If there no punctuation characters in the Artist and Title it always works. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sure, I do. Our main system uses the silence since on a broadcast tools 8.2 switch, but we have a backup that uses silentjack: I startup silentjack with a line like this: silentjack -q -c rivendell_0:playout_0L -n Silence_Alarm -p 5 -g 60 silence_alarm So this assumes Im listening to Rivendell_0:playout_0L as yours might be different, then it calls a script I wrote called silence_alarm. In silence_alarm is a lot of logic to sort through different issues that can cause silence on our station (such as problem Internet feeds), but here is the part that handles a crashed rdairplay: #!/bin/sh if ( ! ps -C rdairplay /dev/null 21 ) ; then rdairplay sleep 7 echo LC BLACK Restarted: `date +'%b-%d %T'`'!' /dev/shm/restart rmlsend --from-file=/dev/shm/restart sleep 15 rmlsend PB\ 1! sleep 30 fi Save this to a file somewhere like /usr/local/bin and mark is executable with chmod +x silence_alarm So what this does is checks to see if rdairplay is running, and if it isnt, it starts it. I also have it leaving a message about this in /dev/shm/restart (which is a ramdisk-like space on my Debian system, you may need to save it elsewhere), and then also sends it to the label area of rdairplay so that there is notice that this happened and when. Finally after the rdairplay gets running and its log automatically gets reloaded, it starts is playing again with the PB 1! command. ___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev ___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev ___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev image001.png___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev
