Hello;

In this vain, Is there any virtual sound card software that will work with
Rivendell? I'm fairly sure that there is not any DANTE support for CENTOS

Hello.

Is there an updated list anywhere?

http://wiki.rivendellaudio.org/index.php/Soundcard_Compatibility_List

This one is a bit outdated and with all newer PCs having PCIe slots,
finding a machine with the older PCI slots is becoming harder and
harder.

Thanks

[RDD] Active Voice Tracks Deleted

2021-10-22 Thread Joe Panarello
Hello;

Can anyone please tell me why? When I run rdcheckdb I find deleted VT tracks
(that were NOT orphaned) in many logs?

Most recently I tracked two 1Hr shows the day before I ran rddbcheck. After
running that utility ALL the tracks from those two shows were deleted as well
as many tracks in older logs.

Third beta release of Rivendell v4.x. Be sure to read the INSTALL

document, as major changes in software dependencies have occurred.

Major Changes Between v3.x and v4.x:

Qt Toolkit. Rivendell v4.x uses and is fully compatibile with major

version 5 of Qt (Qt5). See the INSTALL documents for specifics.

MySQL Compatibility. Rivendell v4.x aims for full compatibility with

MySQL 8.0 and earlier versions in their default installation

RDAirPlay. The rdairplay(1) has been completely overhauled, and now

supports dynamic resizeability as well as a revamped level metering

   system.

RDPanel. The rdpanel(1) now supports dynamic resizing.

Database Update:

This version of Rivendell uses database schema version 350, and will

automatically upgrade any earlier versions. To see the current schema

version prior to upgrade, see RDAdmin->SystemInfo.

Be sure to run 'rddbmgr --modify' (as root) immediately after upgrading

to allow any necessary changes to the database schema to be applied.

If you have already installed a previous Rivendell v4.x beta, you can upgrade
that installation to v4.0.0beta2 by means of the following commands:

For RedHat/CentOS 7:

sudo yum clean expire-cache

sudo yum update rivendell

For UbuntuStudio 20.04 LTS “Focal Fossa”:

sudo apt update

sudo apt upgrade rivendell

Please feel free to spin up either environment and put the system through its
paces. Please create an Issue report for any problems found at:

It’s always good practice to start with a new install when moving from a beta

And, of course the new UbuntuStudio support opens up options for “in-place”
major distro upgrades. I haven’t even started experimenting with that yet.

Re: [RDD] Rivendell v3.3.0

2020-03-30 Thread Joe Panarello

Well Put Rob. Rivendell was meant to be an appliance with a specific purpose
running on CENTOS a pro OS. CENTOS is free so what is the issue? As such,
Rivendell is one of the most reliable and powerful automation systems on the
planet. Why mess with the best. Most of the high priced competitors who are
Windows based will NOT run on a Windows Server OS. So my suggestion would be
that your time could be better spent in adding new features to Rivendell rather
than chasing after mirages.

That's it in a nutshell. The software is developed to run under CentOS, is not
being tested under any other Linux distribution, and it took an immense amount
of time and effort on my part to make it run under Debian 10. Even so,
sometimes it will compile and sometimes it won't. I can unstall Rivendell, blow
out rivendell-3.3.0, gunzip the .tar.gz file to make a virgin rivendell-3.3.0,
and recompile the same source code... and it's even money whether or not it
will compile.

That's not something I can tolerate when I have radio stations clamoring for my
attention all day. I had a station call me a week ago; they are owned by a
local university which was sending all its students home due to the pandemic,
and the faculty adviser said they were going off the air, as they didn't have
an automation system. Now, I had an old Debian 6 Rivendell 2.11.0 system I had
built several years ago, and offered to run it for them along with a Comrex
Access I had bought for another project but had not yet deployed. I kept them
on the air when they otherwise would have had to go off, and if I had had to
depend on my new Debian system they would have been off for ten days, because
that's how long it took me to get it working.

Debian 10 is not Debian 6; QT3 will not build under Debian 10, so the only
Rivendell choice available is V3. V3 is far more complicated than V2, has a lot
more dependencies -- what is it with all this Python stuff? -- and clearly
wants to run under CentOS. Yes, if I invest enough time and effort, I can make
it run under Debian... but why bother?

In theory depending on how you're setup you can already do this.

Using macros you can call shell commands which means if you can find a command

RN macro.

You may have to either use JACK with Riv to share the soundcard or add a
secondary card to the machine purely for streaming.

Be aware that you might end up with issues if the stream drops out. It might
pay you to put liquidsoap in the middle so you can have an audio fallback ( or
use soap to hook back into Rivendell with rmlsend).

CartChunk primarily, which has fields for this. Several file-over-satellite
delivery systems (e.g. Amb-OS, ContentDepot) utilize this approach.

It does, but AFAICT ID3 has no standard scheme for encoding start/end dates
as it is primarily aimed at consumer use cases.

Since we do this all the time with a BT ACS8.2 switcher, let's review some
steps:

In your serial port setup in rdadmin, did you also define (as in add) a
switcher in the Switchers GPIO section? It seems that the SRC-16 switcher
is a choice here.

In your testing with minicom, if you successfully made it work while logged
in as the same user that your Rivendell runs on, then this means all the
permissions stuff is correct. Not sure if you can use minicom and Rivendell
at the same time on a serial port, if it is allowing you to do so, perhaps
this is a clue that you don't have Rivendell correctly going to the serial
port in the first place.

Finally, just checking, you DO have the full path name to the TTL Device
in your Serial port setup as in /dev/ttyS0 not just ttyS0? I'm also
assuming that ttyS0 is in fact your serial port and not something like
/dev/ttyUSB0? (I'm thinking you have this right from your testing with
minicom)

 Hi;
I wonder if anyone has had this problem or could shed some light on
the issue. We are trying to integrate a Broadcast Tools Switcher
SRC-16+ to use on a new Rivendell installation 2.10.3. The problem is
that we cannot get Rivendell to communicate with the switcher.
We are able to talk to the BT-16 via Minicom and can turn on and off
all relays. Using *0OR01L = on and *0OR01F = off format. We have
added the dialout group to the rd user with usermod -a -G dialout rd
command.
Additionally we have set the permissions for ttyS0 by chmod 666
/dev/ttyS0. We have setup the serial port in Rivendell serial port
admin to 9600 8 1 none as requested by the documentation.
 I've created a few macro's GO 0 O 0 1! To turn on the #1 relay and GO
 0 O 1
0 0! to turn off the relay. Neither do anything, the TX or TR lights
 on the
BT-16 do not flash as they do with the Minicom. I even tried a macro
SO *0OR01L! and still nothing. It seems like we are not
 communicating at all through Rivendell.

Hi,

Did you set the playout cards / outputs for rdlogedit, rdlibrary, rdairplay,
etc - in rdadmin -- Manage Hosts?

When you go to rdadmin-- Manage hosts -- Audio resources, do you see your
m-audio delta listed as available? And which card number did it get?

2015-03-28 Thread Joe Panarello
Is It possible that it is not the sound card?? The controls in RDLogEdit
were grayed out since I installed the system. RDLibrary has the same issue.
In RdLogEdit I can see the log but any controls associated with editing,
playing or modifying the log are grayed out. RDAirPlay is the same way I can
open it but the card rack is blank it will not let me load any carts or load
add a log. It almost sounds like I have no permissions???

Hi Tom;

I am have been having the exact same problem for over 2 years now. I've
asked for help a number of times and got no real fix. In live radio this is
an important and desirable feature. Does anyone have a fix for this or even
an explanation?

We have even started to remove all commas form song titles. This is an ugly
solution as (I'll) becomes(Ill). Any help here would be greatly
appreciated.

Subject: [RDD] Now Playing.txt

Good Afternoon

We have Rivendell set up so that it spits out a nowplay.txt file each time
the song changes in rivendell. We have done this by adding the following RML
command into the 'Edit Now Next Window' RN echo %a -
%t/home/rd1/export/playing.txt!

The script works however the script, at irregular intervals, appears to stop
working. Upon investigation it looks as though whenever a or an apostrophe
enters the title or artist field, it appears to stop working! Is there a
reason for this or indeed does anybody have a solution for this?

My knowledge of Rivendell is incredibly basic so 'Laymens Terms' answers
please?

Appreciate any help on this

2014-05-01 Thread Joe Panarello
Hi;
I have been having this problem for years. I display the Now Playing cut
in the upper right display area of RDAirplay.
Whenever I have any text with an apostrophe, the text will not display. What
makes this worse is that for some reason the display does not recover (in
most cases) on the next cut. Sounds like a simple fix? Can anyone shed some
light on this issue.

Re: [RDD] Now Next Issues

2014-03-17 Thread Joe Panarello
Hi;

I've been fighting a similar problem for quite a while. In Now and Next
output I write the Artist and Title to the display area in the upper left
hand corner

of RDAirplay via this command LB Now: %a - %t. This seems to work fine as
long as here are no punctuation characters i.e. () , ', [] etc. some
cause a problem some don't. What happens is that the display just displays
Now: with No artist or Title. Sometimes later in the log it will start
working again but other times not. If there no punctuation characters in the
Artist and Title it always works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good Evening,

I am trying to get rivendell to output Title and Artist to a text file.
Using this command: RN echo %t - %a /var/web/playing.txt! in the RML
section of Main Log.

However i have noticed in testing that it does not output anything with a
bracket in the Title. For example:

'Avicii - Addicted To You' is fine however I Got You (Tensnake Radio Edit)'
does not output.

Is there a simple fix for this?

Hi;

I been struggling with this problem for the last 2 years. Does anyone have
any info on this issue?

I am using the latest version of RD on the appliance OS. When I broadcast
and a song Title that has a parenthesis (‘) in it i.e. (Let’s Dance) the Now
and Next freezes.

Additionally I also place the Artist and Title in the Display window on
RDAirplay and that vanishes also. Sometimes it will return after a few
minutes of no parenthesis. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's too bad if we have to strip out accented characters. I guess it
is okay for english speaking radios, but imagine we, in France, have to

ØCan I use silentjack to start RDAirplay automaticaly and how is this
 done?

Sure, I do. Our main system uses the silence since on a broadcast
tools 8.2 switch, but we have a backup that uses silentjack:

I startup silentjack with a line like this:

 silentjack -q -c rivendell_0:playout_0L -n Silence_Alarm -p 5 -g 60
 silence_alarm

So this assumes I’m listening to “Rivendell_0:playout_0L” as yours
might be different, then it calls a script I wrote called
 “silence_alarm”.

In “silence_alarm” is a lot of logic to sort through different issues
that can cause silence on our station (such as problem Internet
feeds), but here is the part that handles a crashed rdairplay:

 #!/bin/sh

 if ( ! ps -C rdairplay  /dev/null 21 ) ; then

 rdairplay

 sleep 7

 echo LC BLACK Restarted: `date +'%b-%d %T'`'!' /dev/shm/restart

 rmlsend --from-file=/dev/shm/restart

 sleep 15

 rmlsend PB\ 1!

 sleep 30

 fi

Save this to a file somewhere like /usr/local/bin and mark is
 executable with “chmod +x silence_alarm”

So what this does is checks to see if rdairplay is running, and if it
isn’t, it starts it. I also have it leaving a message about this in
/dev/shm/restart (which is a ramdisk-like space on my Debian system,
you may need to save it elsewhere), and then also sends it to the
“label” area of rdairplay so that there is notice that this happened
 and when.

Finally after the rdairplay gets running and its log automatically
gets reloaded, it starts is playing again with the “PB 1!” command.

Hi;
I've tried VNC and got it working but found it unreliable. It is the only
option for remote management but if your studio is local I would highly
recommend a hardware switch. I used an inexpensive KVM switch to jump

My favorit is NX.

You can use a VNC like shared desktop or connect to an extra session,
with a bigger screen resolution than on the host. Thats much faster, too.!

I use the shared mode to see, if everything is running fine or add some
carts to rdairplay, and the other mode to make some maintenance...

You need a ssh connection to use this.
