Re: [RDD] Schedule going blank in RDAirPlay

2022-06-28 Thread Mark Murdock
When the log goes blank, it shows what has played, but everything coming up
disappears. I suppose it might relate to refreshing the log. We have checked
"Enable AutoRefresh By Default" under "Edit Service" so that when we are
importing voicetracks for the day they will be ready to play. Maybe this is
causing an occasional problem.

The log goes blank, but rdairplay doesn't crash?

The closest thing I've ever seen to that relates to the use of the Refresh Log
button.

I long ago gave up using that button because often it would reload only part of
the day's log, and when the last event on the reloaded log ran, the schedule
would be blank and nothing would be on the air.

Here's a question: does the right hand side of rdairplay, which shows the aired
log events, show anything? Or is it blank as well?

[RDD] Visually Impaired Voice Tracker

2022-01-26 Thread Mark Murdock
We have a woman who is visually impaired (legally blind) who is doing some
weekend voice tracking for us. We have been engineering the voice track
recording for her, but we would like to have her be able to do them herself
with the voice tracker. She can see if she gets very close to the screen, but
has a good deal of trouble seeing the mouse cursor. Is there a way to set up
keyboard shortcuts for operating the voice tracker? Or maybe you can suggest
another solution?

Re: [RDD] Automated Library Ingest

2021-08-10 Thread Mark Murdock
Won't RDCatch do this for you? RDCatch gets almost all of our program files for
us, mostly via ftp downloads, but some are transferred from local folders. If
the syndicated show has a consistent file naming convention it should be easy
to set this up. I found the manual here:

http://38.100.3.69/

Here's an example of a URL line from one program RDCatch ingests for us every
day:

file:///home/rd/program_import/%m_%d_%Y_LU.mp3

I think the tool you are looking for is the Rivendell dropbox (not to be
confused with the similarly named cloud service).

Search the internet or the wiki (http://wiki.rivendellaudio.org/) for
references to Rivendell dropboxes. For a quick start on your machine(s), go to
RDAdmin > Manage Hosts > [host name] > Dropboxes

And for the complete reference visit
http://opsguide.rivendellaudio.org/html/sect.rdadmin.manage_hosts.html#sect.rdadmin.manage_hosts.configuring_dropboxes

Hope this helps!

Re: [RDD] 12 hour time

I copied and pasted your format string, and this is the output:

MUSIC 14:16 P7 River Of Life - Mac Powell

This is what the line in the script looks like:

FormatString=%g %d(h:mm AP) %t - %a\n

So I’m still stumped.

I know it involves the “AP” or “ap” time specification, but I don’t know how to

Just add the “AP”/“ap” where you want the meridian indicator to be. For example:

FormatString=%g %d(h:mm AP) %t - %a\n

Should render something like:

I'm working on migrating our Rivendell system to a new server, but after

[RDD] Replacing Rivendell Server

2021-01-27 Thread Mark Murdock
I am working on replacing our current Rivendell server with a big fancy HP
server that has dual power supplies, two Xeon processors and 32 GB of RAM, and
I want to make sure I've got everything right so our clients will keep running
properly. Here's what I've done (or will do when it's time):

  * Installed Rivendell 3.5 in Centos7 on the new server as a server install.
  * Copied all the audio to the new server's snd folder.
  * Given the new server a static ip.
  * Restored the database from the current server to the new server.
  * Added the name of the new server to the Hosts in Admin.
  * Edit the RDConf file in each client so that that new server ip replaces
the old server ip.

So the question is: Is there anything else I need to do? Is there anything I'm
overlooking? Should I change the ip of the new server to that of the old server
when I remove the old server?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

[RDD] ID Scheduling Problem Resolved

2020-12-29 Thread Mark Murdock
Y'all may recall that on the 23rd I posted about a problem with Rivendell 3.5
importing our Music 1 logs correctly. The import using RDLogManager was failing
due to some issue with our Voice Track markers. I made sure the "Inline Event
Start/Length" value (in RDAdmin - Manager Services) was changed from "Relative
Position" to "From Scheduler File." Also I made sure that the "Insert Voice
Track String" was "VT." Still there was a problem. After looking at our
database and Music 1 log, Fred gave me this solution:

==
Your Music1 schedule file has the event length field in a slightly different
location from that called for in the Music1 importer layout. To fix it, run
RDAdmin and open the configuration for the 'Production' service. Then, in the
'Music Data Import' section, touch the 'Copy to Custom' button, then change the
following settings:

Length - Hours: 60 : 1
Length - Minutes:62 : 2
Length - Seconds:65 : 2

and then touch 'OK'.

After doing that, your sample log data for 3 Jan 2021 appears to generate
perfectly.
===

After making these modifications the logs are importing perfectly! If you're
having any similar problems you may need to customize your import template
also. Go to this page for info about "Inline Event Scheduling Parameters:"

http://opsguide.rivendellaudio.org/html/sect.rdadmin.manage_services.html#sect.rdadmin.manage_services.general.inline_event_scheduling_parameters

Thanks much to Fred!

[RDD] ID Scheduling Problem

2020-12-23 Thread Mark Murdock
I sent out an email about this a few minutes ago with a screenshot, but it was
too big and I got an automated reply that it had to be approved by the
moderator, so here's another message without the screenshot.
We just updated yesterday to 3.5, and just discovered that the schedules
created for the new year are putting all of the legal IDs at the end of the
log. We use Music1 for music and traffic scheduling, and the IDs are inserted
by RDLogManager. This has been working fine until now. If I look at the log in
RDLogEdit the Estimated Time for each song and item is there, but if I bring up
the log in the Voice Tracker all of the items are scheduled for "00:00"00." The
text log generated by Music1 looks fine. In RDAirPlay the log listing is blank
in the field for Estimated Time. Obviously we need to resolve this problem
right away. Any ideas?

Thanks!

[RDD] RDAirPlay Crash

2020-08-17 Thread Mark Murdock
We started using Rivendell on-air in February, and for the most part it has
worked very well for us. Twice however, we have had RDAirPlay crash at
midnight. The latest was Friday night. We are running version 3.4.0. We have
our IDs scheduled as a timed start, hard start time, make next for 59:30 for
each hour, including 23:59:30. We overschedule our hours a bit so that the ID
will usually play near the top of the hour. I looked at the log for Friday, and
everything looked normal. There was a correct "Log Chain" command at the end of
the log scheduled for T00:00:00.0 that pointed to the log for 0815. Does anyone
have an idea why RDAirPlay might quit under these circumstances? Would there be
a problem if the last song of the day ended before the ID was scheduled for
23:59:59 and then the log chain command came in before 00:00:00? If you have
any ideas, I would appreciate it!

Thanks much!

[RDD] Proof of performance report

2020-08-13 Thread Mark Murdock
This has probably been discussed here before, but I'm having trouble getting a
report that will tell me what TRAFFIC played during a certain time period. I
set up a report for TRAFFIC as a "technical playout report," and it generates a
file, but the file does not list any traffic. It just has the headings. I've
tried other export filters, but they don't want to span multiple dates. How can
I accomplish this?

Thank you!

[RDD] WaveForm Caption

2020-06-09 Thread Mark Murdock
On one of our Hosts I had the crazy idea that I might delete the "%t - %a" from
the "WaveForm Caption" field in the properties for RDLogEdit. I quickly
discovered that it did not do what I wanted, but when I tried to restore it, I
couldn't type anything into that field. I tried it multiple times, from the
host itself and from the server, but nothing. I tried typing it into a text
editor, then copying and pasting, but that didn't work either. Can anyone tell
me how to fix this problem? I'm on version 3.4.0, by the way.

I don’t believe so. I did this in batches. I copied files from a folder into

then did another batch until I got through them all. It took a while!

[RDD] Ingest Data in Title Column

2020-02-28 Thread Mark Murdock
I'm wondering if there is a way in the Voice Tracker to have the Title field in
the log window only display the Title information without including the data
from the "Ingest" field? It's a minor irritant, but when I'm voice tracking I
have to scroll to the right and narrow the column for Title so that I can also
see the Artist information. It would also be nice to be able to re-size the VT
window a bit horizontally to see more of the waveforms and log data. Thanks for
any help on this!

We just put a Rivendell client on the air today, and things are mostly going

[RDD] Daily Music List

2020-01-30 Thread Mark Murdock
We are implementing Rivendell soon on air, and there's one thing that still
needs to be covered. On our website we have one week's worth of songs that have
played on KAMB so that people can look for songs that they have heard. You can
see it here:

https://www.celebrationradio.com/todays-songs/

I want to generate the same sort of thing from Rivendell. I wrote a custom
program in Visual Basic to handle this for Scott Studios, and I may tackle the
same thing for Rivendell, but I'm wondering if there is a built-in way to
accomplish this using PYPAD or something else.

[RDD] Major Problems

2019-12-30 Thread Mark Murdock
We were planning to put Rivendell on the air for the first time officially next
Monday, but unless I can solve a major problem that came up Friday, it's not
going to happen. We use Music1 for our scheduling software, and it's set up to
generate Rivendell schedules, and seems to work fine. The trouble seems to be
with the legal ID at the top of the hour. We overschedule our hours by a song
or two, and we need the ID to run at or near the top of the hour after whatever
is playing from the previous hour, and then throw out any songs or elements
that are left over from the previous hour and go into the new hour. Scheduling
the ID in Music1 had the ID running after everything from the previous hour had
finished, obviously putting the ID too late. So, I tried scheduling the ID in
RD, setting the "Start at" time at the top of the hour and ticking the "make
next" selection. When I play it back in RDAirPlay and it gets to the ID, it
will start to play it, and then totally crashes. RDAirPlay just quits. I've
observed this several times. Maybe I don't understand how the "hard time" event
works? I set the "transition type" to Segue, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help!

[RDD] RDImport and Disk Space

2019-11-27 Thread Mark Murdock
So apparently, I need a drive much bigger than 1.5 TB unless I want to run
compressed files. I wish I had known this going into this. The Rivendell System
Requirements specify a 1 TB drive. Maybe that should be bumped up to 4 TB for
music stations that want to store uncompressed files. Do I have to start over
from scratch for the server, or can I clone the 1.5 TB drive? If I clone the
drive, won't it preserve the 50 GB size on /dev/mapper/centos-root?

You can, by disabling the HPI driver and re-enabling the snd-asihpi ALSA

high-end card that is specially optimized for radio automation and then 'dumb
it down’ to the level of a Sound Blaster?

The easiest is probably to just add another sound card.

[RDD] 3 hours off

2018-08-13 Thread Mark Murdock
Rivendell is displaying a time 3 hours ahead of the computer system clock, and
I can't find a way to fix this. Rebooting does not help. Any ideas?

[RDD] RDCatch Suggestion

2017-12-04 Thread Mark Murdock
I have a suggestion for RDCatch. It would be nice if it had a "Get This Now"
button so that if, for example, Focus on the Family had a goof and needed to
update the program later in the day, after the timed transfer had taken place,
that we could go into RDCatch, bring up Focus on the Family, and simply click
the "Get This Now" button to update things. This should be a pretty simple
addition, I would think.

Thanks,

[RDD] RDCatch Amb-ux username

2017-11-06 Thread Mark Murdock
I'm again testing Rivendell. I installed it from a recent appliance iso, so
it's CentOS 7 with Rivendell 2.17. I've installed amb-ux and it's doing its
thing mirroring the files from the AMR-100. I set up RDCatch according to the
intructions here:
http://rivendell.tryphon.org/wiki/How_to_setup_downloads_and_dayparting_for_prerecorded_daily_programs_in_RDCatch
The problem: RDCatch requires a user name, and no matter what I put into this
field, the download always fails. The Status says "Server Error: Invalid User."
I tried creating a new Rivendell user and using that name, but same thing. The
instructions indicate that no username or password are necessary for local file
transfers, but RDCatch won't allow me to leave the username field empty.

Is there any solution to this problem?

[RDD] RDCatch Server Error: Invalid User

2016-06-09 Thread Mark Murdock
I'm testing Rivendell to see if it will be a suitable replacement for our old
Scott Studios system, and so far I like what I see. I've gotten RDCatch to work
well when it comes to downloading files from ftp sites, but when I try to
transfer files from /var/amb-ux (following the instructions here:
http://rivendell.tryphon.org/wiki/How_to_setup_downloads_and_dayparting_for_prerecorded_daily_programs_in_RDCatch)
I always get the Status error message "Server Error: Invalid user". I've tried
the default user, tried creating a new user and password with full permissions,
but can't seem to get it to transfer files. What am I missing?
