I have not heard anything good about it. IIRC, it is the
latest in a long list of restaurants that have opened in
the same location. Sometimes a location just seems cursed.
The best barbeque in Cullman (and the world, fir that matter)
is Johnny's Barbeque on US-278 about 1 mile East of I-65.
There is also a Whitt's franchise which is good. Here is
a link to information about Johnny's on my BBQ page.

RE: [RollTideFan] " 6-5 "

2001-11-30 Thread Rick McMahan

I was expecting a record of 9-2 or 8-3. The Ole Piss loss and the UCLA loss
are the two big surprises for me.

A win in the bowl game would be big, but a loss would not make it a long off
season in my opinion. The only thing now that would make it a long off
season is either CDF leaving, or major sanctions from the NCAA. A bowl game
loss would soon be forgotten. These last three wins have left us all feeling
much better headed into off season.

"But the season was winding down, and I was wondering if time had run
out. I thought I might not get to play. But then ..."

But then came a story that's so much better than Alabama's mediocre 6-5
record would suggest.

He was having so much fun Thursday that even when he got hammered so
hard by a Southern Mississippi linebacker that he felt like his left
shoulder was going to fall off, he wouldn't come out of the game.

"I'm right-handed. I figured I could still play even if my left shoulder
was broken," he joked.

Maybe the reason he's done so well in the past three games is his
unusual knack for making the right play at the right time. For example,
he had the longest run of his college career Thursday when he scrambled
for 18 yards -- and it just happened to come when Alabama faced
third-and-18. Also, he threaded his best two passes for touchdowns --
one to Sam Collins and one to Freddie Milons.

At the beginning of the season, I believed we could go 11-0.
11 games into the season, I still believe we could have gone 11-0.
If the team had played with the same intensity and desire in September that it played
with in November, Alabama would not be sitting around waiting for the Music City Bowl
officials to call - the Tide would be preparing for Florida.

Having said that, am I surprised that the team went 6-5? A little, yes.
Disappointed? Yes. Devastated? Nope. Boston College will be a tough test for this
team, though. A loss could be the beginning of a long off-season. A win, though,
would give Bama - no, would CONTINUE - a lot of momentum heading into a VERY tough

Let's not get caught up in celebrating a win over USM for too long. We NEED to WIN
the Music City Bowl this time around.

[RollTideFan] Lost ID - Credit Cards etc.... (non-BAMA)

2001-11-30 Thread TIDE1

For your information. It makes sense to me.

The "TIDE" is back in town !! - VO -
~~
ALL OF THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFO IF YOU LOOSE YOUR CREDIT CARDS OR
OTHER ID ETC...

Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine, do both sides
of each license, credit card, etc. , you will know what you had in your
wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and
cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place.

We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on others
using their name, address, SS#, credit cards, etc. Unfortunately I (the
author of this piece who happens to be an attorney) have firsthand
knowledge, because my wallet was stolen last month and within a week the
thieve(s) ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a
VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer,
received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information
online, and more.

But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this
happens to you or someone you know. As everyone always advises, cancel
your credit cards immediately, but the key is having the toll free
numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those
where you can find them easily. File a police report immediately in the
jurisdiction where it was stolen, this proves to credit providers that
you were diligent, and is a first step toward an investigation (if there
ever is one).

But here's what is really very important: (I never ever thought to do
this) - Call the three national credit reporting organizations
immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and SS#. I had never
heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me and
application for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert
means any company that checks your credit knows your information was
stolen and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit. By
the time I was advised to do this, almost
2 weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done.   There are
records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases,
none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no
additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away
this weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them in
their tracks.

The numbers are:

Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742
Trans Union: 1-800-680-7289

Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271

We pass along jokes; we pass along just about everything. Do think about
passing this information along. It could really help someone.

Good enough for me.

So I sez: I heard his comments too, but what I heard him say was he was at
Alabama and his goal is to get this team ready for a bowl game. Immediately
after his comments, the ones of us huddled around the radio almost on cue
said that he didn't squash the rumor but actually told us nothing of him
either staying or going. Kinda like he skirted around the issue at a perfect
opportunity to step up and flatly deny the rumor. But from what I heard, and
those around me, CDF didn't say yes or no. I don't like the way he handled

Thanks for your insight on the game.
I feel our O-line is the best part of our team right now.
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!

As for the game itSlef, I offer my usual rambling thoughts

How about that BAMA Offensive Line? Whoo-Hoo! Hats off to Jim Bob Helduser.
In case you haven't noticed, this unit is *SPECIAL*! Television coverage
doesn't do these guys any justice whatsoever. You have to be there in person
to see things like Wesley Britt blocking his man completely out of the play,
driving him into the mud and laying on him so he can't get up. Television
doesn't show Evan Mathis driving his man twenty yards off the line of
scrimmage. And television doesn't show you that these linemen are staying
with their blocks until the whistle sounds; and sometimes a little longer.
Britt, Smiley, Ephraim and Mathis are not only big, strong, smart and agile;
they are *MEAN*. And I like *MEAN* football players! If Galloway was a
couple steps quicker out of the gate, he would still be running. The holes
are there more times than not. And they are HuGe at times. What happened to
that fat, lazy bunch I saw during Spring Practice? ;-)

Another solid performance by Andrew Zow. Glad to see him continue to prove
me wrong.

ROLLL TIDEE ROLL

Devonna, at the half, Jess and I went looking for Slef and Bill, we found
them and stayed and cheered in the dry the rest of the game. Sorry about not
coming back to your area, but we didn't want to chance losing our seats in
the dry!

Mitch, glad you saved a few ribs for us at Dreamland, man those were good.
It was Jess' first time to eat at the B'ham location. She had a great time
all the way around and the best part of it allTHE TIDE ROLLED

Who would have thought after watching the LSU fiasco, that we would be
sitting at 6-5 at this point? I didn't think so! So yes, I'm very happy with
where we are after last night's win.

As far as a bowl, things will really have to work against us for us not to
go somewhere. Hopefully the Music City Bowl is in our future, as sitting in
Arkadelphia two day after Christmas would be alright!

I thought last night's ESPN 2's extended coverage was very upbeat and
positive for BAMA. I was pleasantly surprised with the three amigos
(Herbstreet, Corso & Tarico) praise for the job Coach Fran has done and the
overall direction of the program.

Great job by the offensive line and by the receivers blocking downfield in
the second half.

I agree but, I say the team sure has responded to Zow much better, as far as
leadership goes. Last night really showed how much Heart he has. I really
thought he was going to be our starting QB since, all the A game reports of
him being the clear favorite. He really has shown himself to be a class act.
I hope someone takes a chance in the NFL on him. I don't think they will be
disappointed.

2001-11-30 Thread Ron Rice

Ditto what Devonna said. Look at the quagmire that was Alabama football last
November. Coach Fran has made tremendous improvement. In all honesty, the team
outplayed South Carolina and Ole Piss yet found a way to lose those games. Throw
those into the mix and Coach Fran would be standing at 8-3 in his inaugural year.

That being said, word on the skreet has 'Bama playing in Nashville. 'My sources'
report the Music City said before the USM game they'd take Bama if they won - thus
leaving Ole Piss at home.

Think about it. Wouldn't you rather have 30-40,000 crimson-clad fans as opposed to
10,000 rac...rebel fans?

to make the score 22-8. I can say that I think Stewart and I have effectively cured

to be. I grew up in Kansas, but I live here now. I'm home here.

"I don't want to hear anymore about it."

ROLL Frigging Tide Roll...What a GREAT WIN tonight!!! I loved it

I don't like the way he handled
his comments.

Not a flame, just a difference of opinion. I hope he stays. If he leaves,
Bama is in very, very serious trouble.

[RollTideFan] Eagle Soup

2001-11-30 Thread Jeff Todd

Nothing like a good game of football in the
mud!

The resident barner and mySlef braved the elements
and witnessed The Crimson Tide close out the 2001 regular season with a HuGe win
over Jeff Bower, and his Southern Miss Golden Eagles last night. The weather was
much like our resident Meteorologist, James had warned us of every 15 minutes
throughout the day on Thursday. I thought the rain was rather cool. Sure beat
the hell out sitting in the blazing sun.

The crowd was the smallest I've ever seen at a BAMA
football game. I've not heard what the actual attendance was, but I'd say
somewhere in the neighborhood of 22-25k. When you compare that number to the 19
fans that usually attend UAB games at Lesion Field, it doesn't seem too bad.
(Shout out to Javvy!) Although the crowd was sparse, it was a very loud and
enthusiastic bunch. Well, at least it was until the final five minutes of the
game which is when the usual mass exodus of fans takes place.

Kudos to the brains within the Birmingham
Parks and Recreation Board that devised a method to keep the scoreboard
operational for an entire game! Now, how about coming up with a plan to keep the
damn lights burning for an entire game!

The music played during the television timeouts was
very fitting. In the first half it was 'Rain Drops Keep Fallin' On My Head',
followed by 'I Can See Clearly Now (The Rain Is Gone)' later in the
game.

Rick and Jess(ica) McMahan joined us for the second
half of the game. (Pleasure to have met y'all!) We could use a lot more fans
like Rick! I mean that as a sincere compliment.

I never dreamed I'd being calling a 6-5 record a
'turn around' season for BAMA. But that's exactly what it is. Closing with three
consecutive wins, after being thoroughly *THROTTLED* by LSU speaks volumes about
the character and determination of our team and coaching staff.

As for the game itSlef, I offer my usual rambling
thoughts

How about that BAMA Offensive Line? Whoo-Hoo!
Hats off to Jim Bob Helduser. In case you haven't noticed, this unit is
*SPECIAL*! Television coverage doesn't do these guys any justice whatsoever. You
have to be there in person to see things like Wesley Britt blocking his man
completely out of the play, driving him into the mud and laying on him so he
can't get up. Television doesn't show Evan Mathis driving his man twenty yards
off the line of scrimmage. And television doesn't show you that these linemen
are staying with their blocks until the whistle sounds; and sometimes a little
longer. Britt, Smiley, Ephraim and Mathis are not only big, strong, smart and
agile; they are *MEAN*. And I like *MEAN* football players! If Galloway was a
couple steps quicker out of the gate, he would still be running. The holes are
there more times than not. And they are HuGe at times. What happened to that
fat, lazy bunch I saw during Spring Practice? ;-)

Another solid performance by Andrew Zow. Glad to
see him continue to prove me wrong.
