Clearout
Right, here's the (almost) definitive list of things to clear out... Martin will have some components and stuff to get rid of too, but we've not sorted those out yet. 1 SAM with power supply - I think this is new and unused isn't it Simon? BBC Micro with disc drive, microvitec monitor plus software and discs (obviously pretty heavy so will probably have to be someone local to Manchester who can collect) loads of discs - probably only useful for reusing, as I certainly don't have time to sift through and look for anything in particular (sorry folks) videos: Apollo 13 Capricorn One Withnail & I Clerks Innerspace The Quiet Earth Shallow Grave Toy Story The Making Of Hitch Hikers Guide Prisoner - The Schizoid Man / The General Prisoner - Many Happy Returns / Dance Of The Dead Prisoner - Arrival / Chimes Of Big Ben / A, B & C / Free For All Prisoner - The Girl Who Was Death / Once Upon A Time / Fall Out / Best Of The Prisoner Anyone interested drop me a line. As is customary, buyer collects or pays postage :-) In the end it didn't seem worth the hassle of listing the books, so we took them to Oxfam. Maria & Martin
Grand fin de siecle clearout
Getting rid of Simon's old SAM/computing stuff and books (fiction, non-fiction, tech etc). Will put up a comprehensive list as soon as I get chance, but in the mean time if anyone wants to ask if anything specific is on offer just give me a shout. Sorry to bore anyone who isn't interested, but can we try to keep it on-list so Simon can keep a check on it too - failing that, personal mails to me, but copy them to Simon [EMAIL PROTECTED] please. Kind regards and Merry Christmas Maria.

Re: South park
I can't decide if the parents aren't aware of what the kids are watching, or if they do know and just don't care... either way, it worries me. My son, Simon, is 9 and has only recently got a tv in his bedroom (thanks to his grandparents). We have an agreement that he can only watch things he would normally watch on the tv downstairs - kids tv, football, etc - and when his friends come round they leave the door open while they're viewing; that way I know he's not being persuaded to put something unsuitable on. Also, if I video anything "unsuitable for family viewing" I keep the tape out of harms way, watch it when Simon isn't around, then record over it again afterwards. It might be a little excessive, but personally I'm happier erring on the side of caution. Of course, once he grows up, it'll be up to him what he watches, but for now I choose to take responsibility for my child's viewing. Moving on slightly - this week we had a bomb scare and the centre of town was cordoned off for several hours "while a suspect device was made safe"... fortunately there were no casualties, and no damage except to the phone box it was placed in. One 10 year old actually told me it would've been cool if it had exploded and killed people! I found myself wondering what sort of programmes *he* watches? Maria. (it's o.k., I'm getting back down off the soapbox now) -Original Message- From: James R Curry <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: sam-users@nvg.ntnu.no Date: 30 September 1999 18:05 Subject: Re: South park > Although Southpark is funny, I think it should be prohibited. > There are too many bad threads, especially for children (children > like every cartoons, especially when they consist of many words > like sh*t, f*ck, b**ch etc.) Someone lets their kids watch a show that's on TV at 11 o'clock at night and then complains about the suitability. It's not the TV networks responsibility to soften everything for children's eyes when it's designed for adults, shown at such an hour and run with a disclaimer. The burden here should be upon the parents and the second people realise this and stop blaming the worlds problems on faceless executives at TV networks, the better. Hell, if it were on at 6pm, I'd agree with you, but as it stands there is no responsible parent on Earth who would let their children watch such a show. If it's on after the watershed, they should carefully screen it before letting their kids. Sorry Aley, but it's not TVs job to make up for a parent's incompetence. > And there is to much rasism, anti-semitism, nationalism, > and all other isms's (even more than I know) > they're against Jews, B.Streisand, and I don't > know whatever.? > > ...but many people consider it funny... >
South park
So it's not just me that disagrees with all the 7 year olds at school who insist it's a kids programme just because it's a cartoon? Maria.

Not SAM stuff
My email's started playing up - when I "send and receive", more often than not it isn't sending things although it's downloading messages o.k. Generally if I try again straight after, it will send them then (but not always). It's only started this week and I haven't altered anything recently. Don't think it's a server problem because Martin's stuff seems to be going o.k. I'm using outlook express - same as I have for months with no previous problems. Any advice or suggestions? law .... a query!
At the risk of starting a fight here, can I ask about copyright. A friend of mine (no Simon, it isn't Paul!) is setting up a website, but he's not sure what he can and can't put up. Here's his request, any thoughts/advice would be welcome. "Any Law students out there, I have a query: It's about copyright; things like photos of footballers, the teams' shields, or even java applets with for example the present time in Spain... is that copyright? And were I to touch the odd image up (ie. by reversing them), could I be fined? Or is the legal system so complicated that people tend to let it go by?" I'm not sure how much you guys know about football, but I reckoned you were the ones to ask about copyright and java and stuff :-) If anyone can help, please let me know. Send it direct to me if you want to save clogging up the list. The address is of course [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks in advance. Maria.
