I think they still make Highlander movies because of the fanbase. Plus the tv show was on for years. Is that domestic, or worldwide? And does it include tv rights DVD sales? It was a horrible movie, and it was the last one, so if may have bern the last nail in the franchise's coffin, of perhaps its decapitating cut. [scifinoir2] Being Human New Season Starts on BBC America
I just noticed that the first episode of season two of Being Human is showing on BBC America at midnight EST. Not sure if the new season has debuted her already or not... ** http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/369/being-human-season-2-episode-1.jsp http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/369/being-human-about-the-show.jsp Being Human is a witty and extraordinary look into the lives of three twenty-somethings and their secret double-lives - as a werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost. They struggle to live normal lives, despite their strange and dark secrets. After the death of vampire leader Herrick at the end of season one, the supernatural friends are hoping to get on with their lives, but an even greater danger is lurking in the very human world that they so badly want to be a part of. Unbeknownst to the trio, the mysterious Professor Jaggat and her cold-hearted colleague Kemp (Donald Sumpter) - religious zealots who have discovered their existence - are determined to carry out brutal experiments and ultimately destroy them. While Professor Jaggat and Kemp plot behind the scenes, werewolf George (Russell Tovey) is coming to terms with the fact that he has Herrick's blood on his hands, and a girlfriend who knows his horrific secret. Turning down the door of death has implications for ghost Annie (Lenora Crichlow) , but her confidence is at a peak and she's determined to stand up and be counted in the real world. And, with Herrick gone, Mitchell (Aidan Turner) must appease an out of control vampire world - can he find a way to lead by example?
[scifinoir2] Movie: Batman: Under the Red Hood
Batman: Under the Red Hood Batman is a complex man. Since he was a young boy, he has had to deal with the horrors that crime brings face to face. In Batman: Under the Red Hood, we follow Batman as he faces a new nemesis a super villain that is muscling his way to the top spot in Gotham. The Red Hood. The Red Hood is not an ordinary super villain. He has incredible fighting skills and is not afraid to shed the blood of a criminal that stands in his way. Within a short time, the Red Hood has a large body count, and controls a large portion of the criminal underworld. To make matters worse, the Red Hood puts Black Mask on notice. He is cold calculating and as scary as Batman but with a psychotic edge. Without giving away anything, we do get a glimpse at how badass Batman can be if he were to allow himself to go further which in itself is nothing but awesome. Like a true martial art master, we see a mature Batman that knows the difference in hurting a criminal to get information is better than hurting a criminal to put him in the hospital. This is the best Batman movie to date. The action scenes in this movie are fantastic and the best that I have seen in the Batman animated universe. This movie is well worth the purchase. Pros: Batman Fu, Red Hood Fu, Gadgets, Good back-story, Great Bad Guys. Cons: I want to see more! Mature violence, may be inappropriate for younger kids. This is probably as mature as you can get for a PG 13 movie. 5 out of 5! -- Celebrating 10 years of bringing diversity to perversity! [scifinoir2] Teen Dutch Sailor Gets OK For Solo World Trip
Hmmm, I don't think I'd let my fourteen-year-old daughter--or son--undertake such a mission. The article says she'll be spending a lot of time at port, and she mentioned something about staying with convoys. Does that mean she'll be journeying in the presence of other ships for parts of the journey? I'd hope so, 'cause there are all sorts of dangers out in the wide world that a solo sailor could run into, from pirates to those who'd eagerly sell a young girl into slavery. I'm a huge fan of letting youngsters develop as slowly or quickly as they need, but just don't see myself going along with this one... ** http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/27/laura-dekker-14-year-old_n_660593.html [AP News] MIDDELBURG, Netherlands — The new cushions, sunshade and bright red sail are in place. And now 14-year-old Laura Dekker has the go-ahead she needs. A Dutch court ruled Tuesday the girl who was born on a yacht in the South Pacific is ready to embark on her dream of becoming the youngest person to sail solo around the world – meaning she could set sail in two weeks in a ketch named Guppy. I was so happy I almost jumped into the water, the teen gushed, after hearing the court's decision. She then hopped onto her red-hulled, twin-mast yacht with a cartoon fish painted on the side and did a celebratory circle for the assembled media in the still waters of the harbor where she lives with her father on a boat. The past year of legal wrangling and criticism of Laura and her family have been far from such clear sailing – and she faces more stormy waters when she sets off on her odyssey in her 38-foot (11.5-meter) yacht. The dramatic rescue just last month of American teen Abby Sunderland in the Indian Ocean is a reminder of the perils she will face. I'm not really afraid, everything is really prepared on my boat, the young Dutch sailor said of the prospect of encountering everything from towering waves to Somali pirates. Answering questions in Dutch and English with a confidence belying her age, only rarely did Laura's youthful exuberance break through at a brief news conference – like when she looked back on the stress of the last year. Now it's all over and, yeah, it's really cool, she said. The risks the teen faces ignited a worldwide debate on how far parents should go in supporting or encouraging their children's improbable dreams. When Dutch child protection agencies got wind last year of the then 13-year-old's plan they immediately went to court and had Laura placed under a guardianship order that meant she could not set sail. After reviewing her plans, judges ruled Laura was underprepared for such a voyage. They also raised concerns about her psychological and social development if she spent two years away from her peers and from school. One by one, Laura and her father worked to address a list of shortcomings – she organized remote schooling (study materials for the voyage were delivered last week) and got a bigger, sturdier yacht and fitted it with a battery of safety and navigation equipment. She took first aid courses, learning to suture her own wounds, put out onboard fires and cope with sleep deprivation. On Tuesday, all the work paid off when Middelburg Family Court said there was no reason to extend the guardianship by another year. Presiding Judge S. Kuypers said the responsibility for Laura now lies with her parents. It is up to them to decide whether Laura can set off on her sail trip, she said. The teen has also won over her mother, who initially opposed the voyage. Babs Mueller, who is separated from Laura's father, recently said she now backs her daughter. Dick Dekker brushed off criticism that he was pushing his daughter to undertake the voyage. Nonsense. It was Laura's plan from the very beginning, he said. I just support her in it. An experienced sailor who was circling the globe with Laura's mother when Laura was born on their yacht in New Zealand waters, Dekker said he didn't think the voyage was any more risky than life in the Netherlands. If she rides her bike to school that is probably more dangerous, he told The Associated Press. But 16-year-old Sunderland's dramatic rescue in June underscored the dangers of round-the-world sailing. A wave in the southern Indian Ocean snapped the mast off her yacht and put an abrupt end to her solo adventure. She was eventually rescued by a French fishing boat more than 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) west of Australia. Laura said she watched the dramatic rescue unfold, but it didn't really bother me. Her boat is bigger and more stable than Sunderland's, she said, and she was planning to take much longer for her voyage in an effort to catch the best weather. Sunderland's parents faced fierce criticism for letting their daughter attempt the trip and for the costly rescue – and Tuesday's decision ignited a fresh debate. I
