See below: On Nov 21, 2007, at 3:24 PM, Dan Nave wrote: The reason parents encouraged their kids to get the childhood diseases is that the diseases tended to be milder when the kids were young (not too young) but were much more sever when the person was older. Such as mumps in older people, measles in pregnant women, etc... Dan Yes, it is much easier on kids between 4 or 5 and 11, you don't want to catch it after that. "The Disease "We don't usually think of measles as being a serious disease, but it can be very serious. Most children who get measles will have a rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes. These symptoms last for 1 or 2 weeks. It was called the 7 day measles, or red measles in my community. And I knew a girl who had some brain damage from the extreme fever, she was ok though, she had a very high IQ to start with, so she was within the normal range after. The 3 day measles was German measles, or rubella. But measles also causes ear infections in nearly 1 out of every 10 children who get it. As many as 1 out of 20 children with measles gets pneumonia. About 1 child in every 1,000 who get measles will get encephalitis. (This is an inflammation of the brain that can lead to convulsions, and can leave your child deaf or mentally retarded.) For every 1,000 children who get measles, 1 or 2 will die from it. Measles can also make a pregnant woman have a miscarriage or give birth prematurely. "Measles spreads very easily from person to person. You can get measles from an infected person who coughs or sneezes around you or even talks to you. Before measles vaccine was available, nearly all children had measles by the time they were 15 years old. An average of 530,000 cases a year were reported in the United States during the 10 years before vaccine was available. And during each of these years over 450 people died because of measles. Now, thanks to measles vaccine, the number of measles cases each year is a fraction of what it was then. However, we shouldn't assume that our children are safe from the threat of measles. In 1989 and 1990 we saw a large increase in measles, partly because many parents didn't have their preschool-aged children vaccinated. This is just not true. In minnesota in the late 80's there was quite a few cases of measles in high school age children, most of them in one community in northern mn; however nearly all of them WERE vaccinated. It led to a law stating that ALL kids had to get another MMR at age 12. In my opinion, a ridiculous decision when it was probably a bad batch of vaccine. Measles spreads so easily that any child who is not immunized will probably get it, either now or later in life. " Since most of the vacs given are live virus, even the kids who do not get the vaccine have been exposed thanks to that, and most will not get measles either. And if this is not true, than the public health officals have a lot to answer for. This has been an interesting read, thanks for posting it. Kathryn "MEASLES VACCINE NORMAL SIDE EFFECTS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS "More than 170 million doses of measles vaccine have been distributed in the United States since 1963. The vaccine has an excellent safety record. The most common side effect is a fever of 101o or higher which occurs in 5% to 15% of the people getting the vaccination. This fever begins 5 to 12 days after vaccination and lasts a few days. Most people with a fever have no other symptoms. About 5% of persons will develop a rash which lasts a few days. Very rarely, less than once in every four million doses administered, brain inflammation has been reported. However, it is not certain that measles vaccine actually caused the brain infection. Another very rare side effect is seizures, which can occur as a result of the fever. These so-called febrile seizures are not known to cause any permanent harm to the child." "MEASLES STATISTICS - "Before the measles vaccine was made available in the United States in 1963, about 500,000 cases and 500 deaths from measles were being reported annually with epidemic cycles every 2 to 3 years. During this time more than 50% of persons had measles by age 6 with more than 90% having measles by age 15. The most common age of the disease was between 5 and 9 years, with the most deaths occurring in children less than 5, especially in those under one year of age. "Complications from measles disease during the last 5 years are listed in order of frequency - diarrhea, 7%; middle ear infection, 6%; pneumonia, 5%; encephalitis, 0.1%; with 1 in 1000 reported cases dying. "After the introduction of the vaccine, the incidence of measles was reduced by more than 98% with no more 2 to 3 year epidemic cycles. During the late 1960's and early 1970's, the number of cases reported fell to between 22,000 and 75,000 cases per year. In 1978 a Measles Elimination Program was initiated and reported cases fell from 26,871 in 1978 to an all time low

involved more than 2000 children. These recent outbreaks have involved mostly unvaccinated black and hispanic children less than 5 years of age living in inner city areas of large cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Milwaukee, and New York City. "The reason for the dramatic increase in measles in 1989 and 1990 is not known with certainty. One important contributor is that many children in some areas of the United States do not receive measles vaccine at the recommended age of 12 - 15 months. In some areas where outbreaks have occurred only about 50% of 2 year-old children have been vaccinated. Another possible contributor is the number of unvaccinated children has increased due to migration, immigration, or other factors. In addition, large measles outbreaks were also reported from other countries in the Western Hemisphere, including Canada, Mexico, and several countries in Central America. There is no evidence that the outbreaks are due to a change in the measles virus." > -Original Message- > From: Clayton Family [mailto:clay...@skypoint.com] > Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2007 8:39 AM > To: silver-list@eskimo.com > Subject: Re: CS>o Law Says Parents Have To Get Their Children > Vaccinated > > Yes, same thing where I grew up. In message <000801c82aa2$4f14f060$00fdf...@user>, Paula Perry writes This story provides a link to where people can obtain forms to exempt there children from vaccinations. It tells the story of the hoodwinking of the public going on. Worth reading if you have children. Paula http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/november2007/141107_no_law.htm Here in the UK there was a major issue about "dangers" associated with the MMR vaccinations (Measles, Mumps and Rubella). A "scientist" claimed there were clear links with autism and it hit the headlines big time with many parents refusing to let their kids have the vaccinations. It was only later when the incidence of these childhood ailments started to increase significantly (due to the number of non vaccinated children) that the "scientist" suddenly backed off and it transpired that he had been paid to do the "research" by the legal industry since it was looking to make a tidy profit encouraging people to sue the government for giving their kids autism. -- Clive Mitchell http://www.bigclive.com -- The Silver List is a moderated forum for discussing Colloidal Silver.
