 Hi all,

I know this has been asked before but I think it was a while ago and the
 landscape changes often I think...

Any shameless plugs or otherwise on Australian hosting providers?

I host a web site with web24 and am pretty happy with them, but that's
not a Linux VPS.

I was looking at crazydomains.com.au. Any experience with them?

Google for reviews about them, I don't have personal experience but
found many horror stories (now that I think - maybe on the whirlpool
forums too).

In general - there are many forums and online zines dedicated for
reviewing and hosting users war stories. I'd take the opinions on them
with a pinch of salt (could be sponsored opinions on them) but they
might also point to options you wouldn't know about otherwise.

Cheers,

They are fantastically cheap for buying domains. But for hosting, their
mail servers are frequently blacklisted. A relative had his business on
their for a year, and the hassle of blacklisting wasnt worth the few
dollars savings.

I have a VPS with crucial.com.au, they are quite good and competitively
priced.

I've been using WebCity (webcity.com.au) for quite a while and have been
very satisfied with them. Their Business Pro plans are good value.

Specifically I'm looking for Linux/Joomla/Virtuemart...

Any thoughts on hosts with VMware underneath or otherwise?

Speed, pricing, reliability...

Are you looking to setup your own Joomla and Virtuemart or
are you looking for the ISP to provide that?

If you want to set your own up on a CPANEL Linux service -
then I can recommend Ans Communications, who have hosted the
Ramin Communications website for a few years now.
http://ans.com.au/

I craft my own HTML. If you want a special setup you could
discuss your requirements with them...as I am not sure whether
they do or don't provide the higher level services. I know
of a sites which has installed moodle on an ANS hosted website.
Though they are responsible for their own updates.

[SLUG] Printer problem ubuntu/kubuntu 9.X and 10.x

2010-05-10 Thread j blrown

I have an old Canon BJ230 ( which takes A3 paper, hence the reason for
keeping it) that works fine under Ubuntu/Kubuntu 8.x.

It is a parallel Serial port printer that I have connected to my PC by
way of a serial-to-usb converter as the PC doesnt have a serial port.

No setup problems with Ubuntu/Kubuntu 8.x versions, but none of the
newer Ubuntu/Kubuntu versions 9.x or 100.x even see it.

Ideas/suggestions please, other than getting a Serial Port card.

Cant find anything by Googling or checking Forums.

Thanks in advance

I have used Blender very little and have no real
grasp of it (though I have seen what it can do and
 I'm very impressed).

So, is there anyone 'out there' who would be
willing to give us a couple of Intro to Blender
 demos???
