Ubuntu Distro.

The installfest is held in two sessions morning and afternoon on the
same day.

Any volunteers who know how to install Linux and want a fun day helping
others are asked to contact me off list for more details. More the
merrier!!!

Kindest Regards,

Ashley

[SLUG] Installfest at University of Wollongong tomorrow

2008-03-13 Thread Martin Visser
Just a reminder if you want to help out at the 'Gong Uni installfest
we could still do with a 2 or 3 more volunteers to help assist
tomorrow

Incentives include enjoying the nice drive to Wollongong in early
autumn, pizza and softdrink being provided, and the opportunity to
show your installation wrangling talent on the variety of machines the
students will be bringing in. (We have 46 students signed up, so we
have an assured participation).

Please do let Ashley or myself know if you are coming (we don't want
too many volunteers and we do have a small quorum of volunteers
already)

Regards, Martin

I would normally ride my push bike but if you three want a ride I could
drive instead and pick you all up from Central. Sometime between 9:00 -
9:30 is best as I'd like to get there early and help setup.

[SLUG] InstallFest: Ubuntu Down Under Love Day

2005-04-20 Thread Lindsay Holmwood
When:
Monday, April 25, 10:30am - 4:30pm
Where:
Vibe Hotel, Rushcutters Bay

Slug will be holding an InstallFest in conjuction with Ubuntu Down
Under's Love Day. It will be held at the Vibe Hotel, 100 Bayswater Road,
Rushcutters Bay at the hours mentioned above.

If you're interested in trying out Linux and want to meet the cool
people who make Ubuntu happen, this will be a most excellent event that
will make the two possible!

We also need volunteers to install Linux on other people's machines to
come along. If you're coming as a volunteer installer, please let the
Activities list know.

Onlookers are also welcome, but we can't promise that you won't be roped
in to helping out with installs. :-)

If you're coming to have Linux installed, please:
- bring along your computer and if possible your monitor; and
- de-fragment your hard drive if you want to dual boot Linux with
another operating system.

If you're coming along as a volunteer, you only need to bring yourself.
However, if you've got any cool toys on your Linux machine to show off,
feel free to bring it along.

Cheers,
Lindsay

[SLUG] Installfest call to arms

2004-11-28 Thread Peter Hardy
So, the last installfest for the year is coming up this weekend. This
time we've booked a room at the University of Western Sydney's
Parramatta campus. Details at
http://slug.org.au/events/detail.html?id=162

Volunteers needed for the following:
- Room setup and teardown
- Greeting people at the door, helping move equipment around
- Wandering around looking (and being!) helpful. We usually get a
significant number of people just turning up to see what this whole
linux thing is about. Having advocates on hand is useful.
- Brief talks on... stuff. There's no set program yet, I'll do one on
the day.
- Some installers, I suppose. :-)
- Oversee network/power/CD burning stuff

Reply to activities if you're planning on coming to help out.

The advertised start time is 9:30. We need as many helpers as possible
to be there from 8:30 to get ready. Coffee will be provided for the
hard
of waking (I know I'll be needing it).

A combination of factors including illness mean I've done basically no

[SLUG] SLUG Installfest: Saturday 21st August.

2004-08-13 Thread Chris Deigan
Hey everyone,
SLUG is having an installfest on Saturday (21st August), next week.
For those who've never been to an installfest, we'll be installing
Linux on people's computers. If you're curious about Linux but don't
want to install it yourself, then the installfest is for you.
We also need volunteers to install Linux on other people's machines to
come along. If you're coming as a volunteer installer, please let the

Onlookers are also welcome, but we can't promise that you won't be roped

The installfest will run from 9:30am until 4:30pm at UTS Broadway, in
room 02.05.33 (Building 2, level 5, room 3). A map of UTS is available
at http://www.uts.edu.au/about/mapsdirections/bway.html.
If you're coming to have Linux installed, please:

another
   operating system.

Re: [SLUG] SLUG Installfest: Saturday 21st August.

2004-08-13 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hi all
I would love to help out at the SLUG installfest, however since I am vision
impaired, this makes things a little difficult when it comes to reading stuff
on the screen during installation. However I would be happy to answer any
questions people may have, and can bring my laptop to demonstrate most aspects
of Linux, particularly Linux multimedia.

So if help is needed, and there is something that I could help out with, I would
be glad to come.

In terms of the location of the installfest, if someone is able to meet me
outside UTS, that would be great. I will be coming from Central station, and
would need assistance to find the room.

Look forward to hearing from someone about this, and am happy to help out.

We need people on hand as installers: if you're going to come along, can

a followup config fest 3 or 4 weeks later.

Thanks,

[SLUG] Installfest this Saturday

2003-10-15 Thread Chris Deigan
Hi all,

This upcoming Saturday we'll be holding an Installfest at UTS Broadway.

Location: UTS Broadway; Ashmore Smith Room, Level 3, Tower 1.

Directions: Go in through the main doors (of the tower building) and
down the first set of stairs, then right twice and down those stairs
then right again.

For the day we'll need:
* Installees
* Installers
* Helpers
* People interested in Linux.
* You!

So, for those having trouble installing linux, or wish to try Linux out
but are not so certain about the install, come on down.

They'll be Knoppix CDs availible on the day also for those who would
like to know what all the fuss is about with this OpenSource stuff but
would prefer not to install it or lug their computer in.

UTS is a quick walk down a tunnel from Central Station and there is Car
Parking availible around the area.

[SLUG] InstallFest 2000, where to now?

2000-10-04 Thread Gavin Sherry

Hi All,

Well, InstallFest 2000 did very well by my reckoning. LinuxWorld.com.au
would like to applaud the efforts of all involved. LinuxWorld is hoping
that next year's efforts will be even more successful.

Rodney has written an article summarising InstallFest 2000 with some
'vital statistics' and happy snaps from each event. For those who have not
kept up with what is in-store for next year, there is coverage of that
too.

We are hoping this kind of coverage will be amongst the first steps of
getting stronger mainstream involvement and further mainstream press,
which should encourage more people to attend next year.

Re: [SLUG] InstallFest Posters To GO!

2000-08-14 Thread Matt

The little tear off tags seem to be popular,
have you thought about these ? Dates and websites
are difficult to remember unless they're written
down, so what do you think ? Do they work okay ?

Maybe you could release another poster made for
tearing, and keep the current one for hard to
reach places.

I little fine print could also come in handy,
the person might wonder if their machine is up
to it or if they need another hard drive, or
something that can reassure them that they will
not lose their data (that they can repartition).

Also that CDs will be provided on the day to
do a first install for them, and they should
bring however much money we'll be selling
cheap rips for.

I can't think of a better place to hang these
posters than university computer labs and halls.

The poster is GREAT though, clear and easy
to read.

Regards, Matt

room, or on the CEO's bum. Stick 'em on your granny's forehead, we don't
mind. :) We'd just like them in as many places as possible, really soon.

A limited edition (!) installer's tshirt will be given out for the most
outrageously placed Installfest poster and/or ad.

 Go forth and PENGUINATE! :)

Stick 'em in the men's room. Stick 'em in the ladies. Stick 'em in the staff

mind. :) We'd just like them in as many places as possible, really soon.

Hmmm... Mental images of our CEO unable to sit down...:-)
