Re: [RCSE] 2M Molded Sloper in BMW Ad
I saw the ad last night and the model is in a tree, the father and son climb the tree and then throw it out from the top of the tree. ...strange! It did capture MY attention, I think it was more of a full house open class sailplane, V tail, probably molded construction. A great ad for our sport and hobby! Re: [RCSE] Just curious. . scratch-builder headcount
Hello Harley, Count me in as a scratch builder. However I do not claim to be a designer, I've built a couple of originals of my own in the hlg size using composites. I've built the midget that was published in rcm, it was a bit sluggish with std radio equipment however. Also basically did some kit bash of a saggitta 900 as a composite ship with the help of another builder. You know my current project because it is your design, the Genie. I've only been at it a couple of years now after being out of it for about 10 now. >From the land of Pigs and Corn . . [RCSE] Mystery Ship Tail
I just ordered the Mystery Ship from Major Hobbies. I have never heard anything good structurally about T-tails. Any Mystery Ship owners out there able to tell me how their T-tail is holding up? Has anyone modified the Mystery Ship's tail into a more conventional setup or possibly a V-tail configuration? If so, could you send me some ideas. Thanks for any suggestions. Re: [RCSE] Stylus help needed (long)
David, I looked back at the blue sheet that came with the 555Rx. Your Rx compatibility with Futaba has a negative shift, whereas the Rx compatibility with Airtronics/JR has a positive shift (which is what I use in the Zagi). That may explain why I am running PPM, and you are running PPM-inv on the Stylus. Since your elevons are working on the Stylus, I do not think this is the problem. Have you flown this Zagi on another radio, or is this a new plane that you are trying to program with the Stylus? I am thinking this is either a Stylus setup problem or wire polarity mix-up with the motor, diode, speed control, and battery. If it is the setup problem, I am giving you my setup. I had the left servo going to Ch. 4 on the Rx and the right servo going to Ch. 3, and the throttle going to Ch. 5. On the Stylus menu for REV (reversing servo direction), I had 1, 2, 3, 6 in the up position and 4, 5, 7, 8 in the down position. I do not know if the compatibility may affect this information on REV. If it is a polarity mix-up, please check carefully the wiring diagram on figure 9 and the write-up on page 8 in the assembly manual. Also, remember the startup sequence for the throttle stick that I described in the first E-mail (try stick down and then turn radio and plane on, also try stick up and then turn radio and plane on). I sure would like to know if you have flown this plane before. Victor Yeung RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The message was > something about > "freedom" or "serenity" - is that what we represent? =) That model is an Ellipse 2V, painted BMW Silver with a darker silver or charcoal canopy painted on. The flying was done by Dave Larsen and it was filmed near Auckland, New Zealand. Dave has actually written up the story behind the shoot and it's currently featured (with some pic's) on the Lomcovak website at: http://www.lomcovak.cz/eindex.html Definately worth a read! There's also a photo of the model in it's current revised color scheme in the Photo Gallery of our club webpage at: http://www.rcmodels.com/clubs/asfcnz/ (it's the one nearest the camera in the middle photo on page 2). The tip panels have been returned to their original white/red and it's sporting a new tail as the original was a bit heavy with a repair and the silver paint. [RCSE] Re: Soaring V1 #1217
Not sure if I saw the same ad or not. The one I saw showed a guy climbing up a tree to get the plane, then throws it off the top. It was a gray/silver polyhedral plane with a V-tail. The message was something about "freedom" or "serenity" - is that what we represent? =) There was also a Saturn? commercial with a little plane crashing into the dent-proof door (didn't show what happened to the plane though). The first R/C plane I saw was one used for diamond smuggling in an episode of the kid's TV show "The Bloodhound Gang" on PBS in the 1970's. -Silas- > Date: Mon, 15 May 2000 15:31:43 -0700 > From: "James T Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "soaring" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: 2M Molded Sloper in BMW Ad > Message-ID: <008501bfbebd$588b8c20$[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Just saw an BMW 3 series ad on TV where there was the sound of wind while > showing a ridge then a guy throws a white 60" sloper off a ridge. [RCSE] Re: [EFLT] Economy of scale
Thanks to all who commented on this subject. I figured the market was pretty much as you all described it. I guess I'll stick to my daily grind for now. I don't think I could bear to build too many of the same plane for too long anyway. On the other hand, haveing a small business to offset R&D costs (my hobby) could come in handy when dealing with the tax man. I am in Hawaii, which is a great place to live, but a difficult area to make or distribute anything due to high fixed costs (rent, shipping, insurance, labor, etc.) Maybe I'll talk my Cantonese girlfriend into running a swetshop for me in Mainland China =) Then she would know how much I spend on my toys and I'd be out of a hobby for sure =( Some day I'll figure out how to make a $900 plane for $20 and sell it for $300, until then I'll just build for fun. -Silas- Who is tired of flying to Kona three times a week at 5:15 AM and getting home after 7:00 PM and being too damned tired to fix a plane to fly on the weekend...something a second job would not help a bit. Re: [RCSE] Product bashing
Mark, Congratulations, you must be one of the chosen ones. There was several Tetras at the AMA/LSF Nats in 98 when I was there and I don't recall anyone I talked to that did not have problems with them. I have two NIB Tetras that will not ever see the inside of anything other than a foamie and then only flown when only a few people are around to reduce the risk of hitting someone cause I have no doubt they will glitch and glitch often. Just my $.02 worth. I am very glad for you that have not lost one of your valued toys, I was not so fortunate. See Ya, Pat McCleave Wichita, KS Ps. BTW, I did think before sending this post and the only bashing of this product should be done with a BMFH. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
