RE: [RCSE] Sports F3B/F3J

2001-03-11 Thread Alex Janssen

Thanks for your answer. I totally agree that it's all
about competing and having fun. That's why I am also
building a Bird of Time and I intend to compete with
her in our local (I just joined a club after flying
for many years all by myself).

I just have a thing for fibers and technology. That's
my a molded sports F3B/F3J (I don't want the latest
and hottest) appeals to me.

Happy thermals,

Alex Janssen

Re: [RCSE] CA remover

2001-03-11 Thread Maurice Podder

CA is permanent on most surfaces. Use 1500 or better 2000 grit wet and dry
paper to smooth and level CA with paint. Be careful not to sand through the
paint. Use Turtle wax red rubbing compound and finish with Turtle wax white
compound. If you are careful with the sand paper and the rubbing compound,
know will ever know there was a problem but you. This same system works
very will for spot painting repairs.

Maurice

Does anyone know of a solvent to remove CA glue from a lacquered surface?

RE: [RCSE] Sports F3B/F3J

2001-03-11 Thread Paul Ferguson

Hi

When we run F3B locally, we encourage people to fly anything, even floaters.
A Stepp 3 (3 metre floater) can do a 50 second speed run. My record with a
Stepp Upp+ was 34 seconds. My previous best was 36 second, so I improved.
Now I have a Tragi 700.

You set your own benchmarks, and compete against similar models. Winning
isn't everything - it is all about competing and having fun.

[RCSE] Sports F3B/F3J - RCSE in Europe

2001-03-11 Thread Alex Janssen

Hello,

I'm closer to finishing my Bird of Time with spoilers
actuated by wing servo's (thanks again for all your
building tips. Should have it ready by Easter.

Yesterday I had my first experience with winch
launches and F3B flying with an, I think, english
design called Cobra.

Also, browsing through the german "Aufwind" magazine,
I read a test about EMC-Vega's Harmony, which was
described as a sports, allround F3B/F3J glider
suitable for sports pilots as well as competition
pilots.

Is there such thing as a "sports" F3B/F3J glider? Does
anyone have an experience with the EMC-Vega Harmony?
Any other glider which could be considered a "sports"
F3B/F3J glider?

Also, does anybody know about a forum like RCSE in
Europe (Germany)?

TIA,

Alex Janssen

[RCSE] Flamingo setup

2001-03-11 Thread Dave Seay

I have an old 'hand-me-down' Flamingo for which I'd like to get the setup.

Does anyone have the manual on this bird? For starters, I'd like to get the
CG, throws, differential and ai/ru mix.

Thanks,
Dave

Re: [RCSE] looking for a 60" slope trainer

2001-03-11 Thread jaffee

The Fun-1 uses a totally different airfoil though (a rather thick SD 6060,
I think). IMO, you can't really compare them either way, as the Fun-1 is
somewhat slow, and designed to compete with other Fun-1's. I have a friend
who's had the obechi sheeted Sparrow and now the composite 66" and he seems
to like both (though it's been a while since he had the wood one).

BTW, a really nice combo is the Fun-1 fuselage with the 60" balsa-sheeted
S3014 Renegade wing. This is the the wing that came with the original wood
Renegade. My friend used this combo, and found that it flew faster then
the Fun-1 wing in both light and strong lift. The double taper also looks
better. On top of that, the wing fits the Fun-1 fuselage *better* then the
Fun-1 wing (probably because the Fun-1 fuse was originally designed for the
S3014 airfoiled Blazer wing). Whether or not this wing is still available,
I don't know.
