You might go easy on recommending the 9C. I was on the Futaba mailing list
and apparently there is some sorta glitch in the V-Tail sailplane
option. Something to do with a factory hardwired premix. If someone has
some real experience a 9C or this potential problem please speak up.

I was seriously looking at a 9C but decided to wait until this issue was
resolved. The Futaba Super 8 is a real nice Tx.

At a Wal-Mart near the ocean wire line is available. They had monel and
stainless.

What is the difference?

Stainless steel is a steel (primary element Fe, iron) with nickel and
chrome added for stain resistance. Good stuff.

Monel is a copper-nickel alloy, typically about 70% nickel. Good stuff.

If I had to guess, I'd say the stainless steel had a higher electrical
resistance, all things being equal, but I've never tested for that.

Cheers,

Re: [RCSE] HT-14 Airfoil

2001-12-01 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The HT 12 is on the charles River site. If any one know if the 13 and 14
are there, can you let me know also.

I know people are using the HT 12 on HLG, but the others I am unsure of.

I have seen recent mumblings about the HT-12,13,and 14 stab airfoils. In
one
article, someone stated that the HT-14 could be used on larger
sailplanes.
I would like to know if this means larger handlaunch or 100 sailplanes?
Would this airfoil work in the RE of a Cross Country ship?

Basically, one of our fellow RCSE'ers discovered the problem...that v-tail
surfaces do not correctly respond when elevator compensation is used in
crow mode (one v-tail surface moves more then the other). The problem was
confirmed by several other glider guys around the world. Futaba does know
of the issue, but they have been vague about when and how the issue would
be fixed. I'm hoping they aren't waiting a few years for the next version
of the radio (presumably the 9 Super) to fix it. It sounds like a great
radio, and would be worth waiting for if they fix it in the near future.

[RCSE] A Georgia Peach of a Day

2001-12-01 Thread GordySoar
The Atlanta guys have been busy... finding new locations to soar at, focusing on Sod Farms versus the industrial park they had flown at for years... and it has paid off. We started the day with just a light breeze and a tornado of hawks/buzzards working a low core in a huge diameter circle.

The thermals were good but really tight, so it took lots of battery to keep all the planes servos going all day... and that made it a great day.

We'll be out there again in the morning till about 3pm I guess. I know I have to catch a flight back to Knoxville, but they run till 11pm, so I won't be rushing away :-)

Really looking forward to ending this trip, as I hear my new plane the "Rival' is in route to my house. (From Mike Popescu). Also heard rumor that Mantis parts are under construction so it shouldn't be too long before my "pretty" Mantis fuse will have the rest of its components soon just in time for building season.

[RCSE] 8U Spectra module

2001-12-01 Thread Bill Barnitz

Well guys, one and all -- I thank you for my
"PUBLIC EDUCATION " regarding a subject I obviously don't know very much
about. I was just trying to help out a guy who wanted a good
TX. Now that I have hoisted myself on my own petard, I'll close my
big mouth and not be so swift to be the "fool that rushes in where
angels fear to tread". But it was in fact , rather
educational!!Its rather surprizing to know the amount of guys (and
talents ) that are lurking on the read side of this who seldom say anything
. But it was a good day any way . I won our little local glider
contest and brought home a piece of hardware which I will now proudly dispaly
next to my rather large piece of humble pie ;-} Bill

and whether such an transmitter is in legal operation. I think the answer is
'no' on both counts.

I'll bet the guys sells the shorten tx antenna has never type cert
their antenna with FCC either. How many people are using those
antenna on their transmitter?
