2002-10-30 Thread Bonfiglio Tullio
Hi, guys you all.

It's with great pleasure (as usual) that I announce you a new major version
of Profili 2.0 by Dr. Stefano Duranti.
See below his message.
With the same pleasure (now it's my turn 8-))) ) I can tell you that it is
now possible to download Profili 2.0 from my site.
You have for now to pass through the Italian pages of the site, but it will
be an easy task 'cause download is an international term .

Ciao from Italy.

Subject: [xfoil] New version of Profili 2.0

I send this message to inform that a new major version of Profili, 2.0, has
been released.
Here are some of the news:

- Drawing of leading edge, trailing edge, spars etc
- Drawing of the foam cutting template
- One shot drawing of all the ribs of a trapezoidal or elliptical wing
- advanced filtering of the airfoils by thickness, camber etc
- 500 more airfoils added to the database (more then 2,200 now)
- 20 preprocessed polars for every airfoil in the database (20 different Re
from 30,000 to 500,000), more then 500 hours of processing for my PC
- automatic process of the polars for new airfoils or Re
- New function to generate a new airfoil as a mix of two, you can also
specify the mixing ratio. So you can generate all the airfoil you will find
in a wing with different root and tips ones. Then you can verify the
aerodynamic of your wing by generating the polars for the new airfoils...
- Airfoil libraries managing
- import export from-to .DAT file
- and more

Visit the new web site of Profili by

[RCSE] HLG contest in North Carolina

2002-10-30 Thread Oleg Golovidov
Just reminding y'all that we are still waiting for your entries to our first HLG
contest in Wilson, NC. We are planning to develop this into a big annual event
and we need your help for that! Please send your registration (an e-mail with
your channel number) to me or to Dick Proseus (contest director). See the flyer
for map and directions: http://olgol.com/contest/

We will have a Taboo XL kit and a few small items raffled at the contest. Every
pilot gets one free raffle ticket. Entry fees will be divided between the top
finishers as cash prises.

We already have confirmations from several strong East Coast hand launch pilots,
including the current national champion Phil Barnes and 3rd place Nats finisher
Don Vetter ans some others. This means there will be some very good competition
and a chance to measure yourself against the best pilots.

A rumor was going around that Denny Maize was planning to come to our contest in
hopes of getting the free Taboo XL kit, since it is supposed to be a very good
hand launch plane and Denny really needed one (Hi, Denny!). He even called me on
the phone and tried to reserve a couple of extra raffle tickets for himself.
Seeing how desparate he is to get a good hand launch plane, I promised Denny
that I would consider him for the position of the Taboo factory sponsored pilot,
but only if he improves his contest performance. Denny, your T-shirt and cap
with Taboo logos are on the way to you. :-)

Please, come to NC and enjoy some friendly competition. We need your support to
make the event happen!

Thermals to all,
Oleg.

Re: [RCSE] Electric Pack Chargers

2002-10-30 Thread Bob Johnson

Probably the most cost effective solution is too just buy two chargers.

The FMA Supernova is a great little unit! They retail for about $129. Two
of
them will still be cheaper than one of those expensive, pretentious units.

Of course you won't be able to look down your nose at the electric snob
pilots. But, you'll have a charger for both your flight box and your work
bench. Personally I found this much handier than I'd have ever thought.

I agree with Bill Swingle and have gone the two charger route. I am using
Dymond Modelsport's Super Turbo Charger, which costs $110, and like it a
lot.

And hey, two of anything is more impressive than one of anything, especially
to the outsider who doesn't know the cost. :)

[RCSE] 9CAP Futaba owners info!

2002-10-30 Thread Aireze1
Hi All, just passing along some intel I received on a post I made to the
Exchange. Rich

You can use the Flap Trim function in the advanced programming menu to assign
camber to one of the knobs or sliders (or maybe even a switch, can't recall).
You can also use one of the 7 free mixes if you just want to offset the flaps
by a set amount. Set the master to Offset and the slave to flaps. For a 4+
servo wing you need to set LINK to ON so that your ailerons will also camber
(this assumes you've set up flap to aileron mixing). Then just adjust the
amount of offset to your liking so that when you flip the switch the surfaces
drop to where you want them.
I highly recommend you use one of the side sliders for camber though. At
least until you get a feel for how much you need in flight. The PMix is tough
to play with in flight, and using a slider is much easier to program.
One drawback of the 9C is the dreaded flip a switch for butterfly. The
butterfly programming is very robust, but you still have to remember to flip
that switch before landing if in glider mode (for some reason aerobatic mode
doesn't require this and can be set by throttle position). You can leave the
butterfly always on like I do. It won't hurt affect anything except your
trims. When in butterfly mode your elevator trim adjusts elevator to flap
compensation and your aileron trim adjusts flap1 vs flap2 position. A bit of
a pain but sure beats hitting whatever's behind the landing area.

2002-10-30 Thread RCsoarnut
Oh Man,

The secret is out! I guess having a Taboo wouldn't be all that bad,
nothing wrong with a consistant 2ND PLACE finisher:-) Course it did win that
Triad trophy! I hope all those speeding tickets on I95, hurrying home to
show the wife were worth it:-) I don't want to make O mad here, he's a
pretty strong guy! Only person that I know that can clutch a marble trophy
base hard enough to put finger impressions in it!
I'll be looking foreward to the t-shirt and cap, it's getting cold up here,
was sleeting yesterday.
Oleg, I always wanted to ask, that doesn't look like a Taboo that you are
proudly clutching in the BAR/CSS HL group photo? Some kind of a new design?
You sure look proud!

 Hello Aireze1,

I had the exact same problem recently (and in fact am still struggling trying
to have the flaps and ailerons move at the same rate while adjusting camber)

There are a couple of good pages on setting up a full house glider using the
Futaba 8U transmitter, which are also quite relevant to the 9CAP.
 Have a look at:
 http://members.cox.net/jeffareid/futaba.htm
 and
 http://www.scalesoaring.com/escape.htm

One other source of information are a couple of Yahoo groups:

 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/9CFutaba/
 and
 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/futabaowners/

in this last one, a quick search for camber control will bring up a recent
 thread on the subject.

Good luck, and if you figure out how to get the ailerons and flaps to move
 together, please let me know.

 Best regards,

[RCSE] Cold Weather Sloping

2002-10-30 Thread Ryan Flowers
So what do YOU guys do? Back in march I hit the slope and was
Fe-ee-e-e-eez-z-z-zii-i-i-ng. That was w/ jeans, heavy shirt, jacket,
nothing else. Fun, but COLD. So this winter I plan on hooded coveralls,
long johns, jeans, heavy shirt, and safety glasses for my eyes to keep the
wind out. Fingerless gloves.

So what do you guys do? Or am I just flying when I should be building? LOL

[RCSE] Electric sailplane

2002-10-30 Thread flyingmelon71
I am wondering if anyone can suggest some electric gliders that would
be good for a new flier. I would prefer an ARF due to no space for a
building project. Also maybe some radios. I dont have alot of money to
start into this hobby with $250-$300 to start. The clubs in this area
are mainly power and there is no room for a winch or hi-start at their
fields but are willing to help me learn to fly.

Thank you for your help
