[RCSE] JR 8103 diode

2003-08-01 Thread Ben Diss
Hypothetically speaking, suppose I^H someone accidently hooked up the
battery in my^H^H an 8103 backwards and let the magic smoke out.
Suppose the diode got burnt and needed to be replaced. What is the spec
for the diode on the power board?

[RCSE] Soldering SS pushrod to carbon steel clevis rod

2003-08-01 Thread Rick Van Clief
How does one do this? So far I have tried with no success...
	acid core solder alone
acid core solder with liquid acid flux
silver solder (4% silver, 96% tin) with the flux paste that came with it
silver solder (5% silver and bronze, or so the guy said) with the above
paste flux
both the above silver solders with liquid acid flux

I have tried fluxing and tinning the SS alone - no luck with any of it.

I would definitely appreciate any help with this! Thanks.

I got mine
at Vislia years ago and its still serving me!

I saw the versions that Tom has and they are improved. The
stand has less metal which makes it a lot lighter in the
Sportube and probably draws less attention in the Xray
check:-)

It sounds like the guy who makes them, life is changing and he is
bored with making them so you'd better hurry up and get one of group
Tom got.

Gordy, et al.

The one you got was made by Fred Guilfoyle, after in 1999, I
asked him to make some for us (see how small the world is?). Fred
made a bunch, and when his job situation changed, stopped making
them. Then, Paul Kmetko asked permission to develop them and have
them produced, which we accepted happily. Paul has vastly improved on
our original just-for-your-buddy design, and they are
better than ever and will continue to be available, no worries... For

There isn't a diode, but there is a fuse. It's under the
RF module. Pull it out and read the markings stamped on
it.
Hopefully nothing else is damaged.

Yea, I know about the fuse, but there is also a diode on the same module
as the fuse. It's completely toast.

If it is part of the power circuitry, then it is
very unlikely for it to be critical.
Try a nice big 3 Amp diode, say something from the 1N5400
diode family (any one will do), or others.

[RCSE] Need AMA CD to help with records.

2003-08-01 Thread Paul Breed
I've built a Solar powered RC plane. (See:)
Airplane:

Launch:
http://www.rasdoc.com/splinter/DCP01221.JPG
Proof it stays up...
http://www.rasdoc.com/splinter/ItFlies.JPG
It was built with the express intent to set some FAI world records.

I am specifically interested in setting the following three records:

N186 Distance in a straight line. (Currently 48.21km or 29.94 mi)
N187 Gain in Altitude. (Currently 2065M or 6773 ft )
N188Goal and Return. (Not yet Set)
The aircraft I built is also capable of setting the following records for
electric aircraft with
a combination of sources of current.

N193 Distance in a straight line.
N194 Gain in altitude
N195 Goal and Return (Not yet Set)
I currently live in San Diego and I need help finding an AMA CD that would
be willing to work with me in Southern CA, or in AZ?
I would preferably like to contact someone that is familiar with he record
setting process.
I've read the FAI checklist and i have both my AMA and FAI sporting
cards/licenses.

The airframe is ready today for the distance records, and I'm planning on
testing the telemetry
and higher power HAM transmitter needed to set the altitude record this
weekend.

Any help or pointers you can provide would be very welcome.

Paul

Re: [RCSE] Carbon Fuses and Antenna, important stuff

2003-08-01 Thread Erich Merkel

Hi Gordy,

On my Pike Superior, I simply doubled the length of
the antenna (to 2 meters, 1/2 wave instead of 1/4 wave as discussed on the Samba
site), and let the excess (about 2 feet) hang out the rear of the fuse (what's
inside the fuse is in a tube to prevent abrasion and possible shorting on any
carbon slivers). With this configuration (I'm using the JR R-700
receiver), I'm getting in excess of 200 feet on my range check.
YMMV. How do you like the Pike otherwise? Pretty sweet flyer,
yes?

Some of the Czech guys advise that they extend the antenna and then run it
up one side of the v-tail (up thru where the elevator hinge is).
