Re: [RCSE] Two meter gliders

2004-04-03 Thread Rick Van Clief
Is it the overall weight that matters or the wing loading? Reason for
asking - my LAR 2M will come in at 5 oz/ft^2 at 36 oz. 21 oz. will be
unobtainable. Airfoil is the AG36 thinned to 90%.

Thanks.

My 2-meter Aegea weighs 21 oz, with a 6.2 oz/ft^2 loading,
and I wish it was a bit lighter.

RE: [RCSE] Two meter gliders

2004-04-03 Thread Neil Stainton
I calculate your model's wing area is 7.2 sq ft with an aspect ratio of
only 6. Are you sure of the wing area? Big span and low wing loading
mean low induced drag, but all that wetted area (if correct) will
increase the profile drag.

IMO for pure gliders (rather than electric ones) weight isn't important,
wing loading is.

[RCSE] Eclipse programming help

2004-04-03 Thread Kevin Sheen
Hi all,

I'm trying to help a friend setup an Art Hobby Sierra along with a Hitec Eclipse.

I've gone through the manual a couple of times and I can setup crow so that everything
is moving in the right direction but I'm missing something because the flaps are
drooping.

Does anyone know of a link to help me along? I searched google but didn't see
anything obvious. Is anyone using an Eclipse and have any pointers?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Kevin

[RCSE] Flaps servos are stalling when in flap stick is in full up0 flap

2004-04-03 Thread Adam Till
Hi Stan,

Are you using JR digital servos by any chance? A friend of mine had this same problem
in his Icon last weekend, except for him it happened at full flap. The servo basically
turned itself off at full flap, and you could move it by hand
freely. One click less (or 98% ATV) and it turned back on and followed the other
flap perfectly.

Very strange I thought...

Cheers,
Adam

RE: [RCSE] Nose Weight?

2004-04-03 Thread Wes Gibson
I like this idea from Mark Mech about using paraffin wax instead of epoxy to
hold the nose weight in place. Has anyone tried this with standard buck shot
yet. Not sure what size buck shot I have since I'm not a hunter, but it's
fairly small. Maybe as small as bird shot. Sure would be a lot easier to
adjust weight.

I use shot gun pellets, ( old ones )

This summer I needed to come up with some large
nose weights for some mid sized UAV's.
We had an abundance of tungsten powder and paraffin wax,
so I filled the nose with powder, then poured the
molten wax in and stirred the mess up.
I only added enough wax to saturate the powder, it doesn't
take much. The weight can easily be modified by scooping
out the excess with a spoon. Ours were about 12lbs per plane!!!
I was thinking about putting together a glider nose weight kit
with 5oz. of tungsten, and 2oz. wax with a piece of plastic
to glue in as a retainer.
If anyone is interested, I will put them together.
It is only feasible if I order a lot of tungsten, the stuff is fairly
cheap in quantity..

I would think that it might melt in the summer which would be a bit messy.

Hello.
I don't mean to be a pill here but.
I don't think the Wax method would work in the Sacramento valley where
temps in the summer reach upwards of 115 deg.
CA works well, epoxy is more secure.

[RCSE] Flaps servos are stalling when in flap stick is in full up0 flap

2004-04-03 Thread GordySoar

When in move the flap stick just one notch the servos stop stalling. I have a 8103. How do I adj to get the stall out?

can you spell subtrim OR travel adjust? I can and use it for adjusting throws, when I am in an incredibly lazy state of mind, but the right thing to do is to keep Subtrims as close to zero as possible, by shortening or lengthing the flap linkage.

Remember a stalled servo is a servo that is on fire inside. The brushes are glowing like heating elements and leaving tiny little burn marks on the commutator plates that when viewed with an electron microscope look amazingly like mouse tracks made by a chicken with fake mouse feet on.

Stan,

Simple change your linkage till your flaps rest neutral when the flap stick is up.
And you can use your flap subtrim menu to make adjustments from there.
