Re: [RCSE] Confused by FAI records illustrated in RCSD... I thought Joe Wurts was cross country king?
F3B requires that it be flown in 4 minutes. So getting 10km in 4 minutes is a difficult task. Without doing the math, I would assume you had to have perfect air for all 4 minutes and be very heavy. [RCSE] Re: help? trying to choose: Triton or Multiplex LN-2010
I fly what may now be considered prehistoric, low-powered planes: various 2-meter planes with a speed 600 brushed motor on direct drive and 6 and 7-cell sub-c NiCad packs, the largest of which is like 1900 MAH. I have finally decided to junk my cheapo simple timed chargers and get a better one with delta peak cutoff and better variable rate controls. It has to be backward-compatible with the NiCads for the 2-meter, the AA sized NiCads for my sky scooter (speed 400ish), and future hydrides I want to transition to. Lipos are down the road a year or so, still short of funds to completely switch to those, and rankly, they scare me. I think Hydrides will keep me happy in the short term, and I can't bear to get rid of the existing NiCads as long as they are good. So, both the Triton and the LN-2010 seem like they would work fine, I'm not likely to ever move up to larger than 8 cells in NiCads/hydrides and 3 packs in lipos. I don;t have any brushless motors yet, that's probably a year or two down the road as well. The price on the Triton is about 40 bucks more than the Multiplex... is there a compelling reason to prefer it? Any user stories? Appreciate any counsel you can give. Re: [RCSE] Dry up spilled CA??
Brian, I too am very allergic to CA. I keep JET bottles in a used country time lemonade container. Keeps them from spilling in the first place keeps the fumes from spreading. Look out when you open it though. It also keeps them fresher longer at the field. I keep the kicker in a seperate container. I would wear a respirator, and mop up what you can with a rag so you can pull it up without leaving it there. Paper towel might just stick. Then I would kick off the remaining amount. If you need to sand it off wear a respirator.. Sanding as you know can be just as bad. [RCSE] Re: Dead Battery
For many years an EE in our group used to do this when we had a failed battery but we ordered a back-up ASAP because the dendritic formation that had been 'zapped' was an indication of more bad things to come. - Dave R An on-line reference follows: http://www.batterieswholesale.com/faq_nicad.htm Q: I've seen people talk about zapping cells to revive them A: Yup -- a quick fix it. When cells short due to dendrites, the piece of material that is actually shorting the cell is very thin. So, by forcing a huge impulse of current into the cell, one can vaporize the dendrite -- sort of blowing a fuse. This works, and can revive an otherwise shorted cell. However, it is a stopgap measure at best. First, the fact that one dendrite has formed means that another is not too far behind. Second, the material that was vaporized has now permeated the separator material, forming a resistor that shorts the plates. The cell may no longer be shorted, but will still have a poor charge retention. Besides, unless done properly, this can be dangerous as large currents are necessary. Re: [RCSE] GWS servos
Anybody using GWS servos. Wondering how good or bad they are. I use a lot of them, they are great, but I wouldn't put them in anything that can't take a bounce or 2. They fail regularly for no apparent reason. The stronger sub micros like the naro hp bb's seem to hold up fairly well, but I have had an number of GWS servos fail by suddenly going hard over one direction until they lock up. It is interesting because you can generally push them back the other direction while they are still on and they will re center. Adjusting the travel limits on the tx will generally stop them from doing it again. I still won't use them on anything expensive or that can't survive a crash or 3 Mark Mech www.aerofoam.com RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Dry up spilled CA??
Hi Brian Easiest thing to do when you get your respirator is also bye a large can of Acetone and some plastic gloves. It will cut the CA right away. But if the surface would be damaged by the Acetone the only other option I know is to wipe it with paper towels and then shot it with activator to get it over with. Once its fumed out it should no longer cause the allergic reaction. RE: [RCSE] 8103 dumb question
Mark, If the 8103 programming is anything like the 388, and I think it is, simply selecting sailplane mode won't do the job. In the system setting mode you need to activate "dual flap", and set the FLAP setting to SW+T. In the Function setting mode inhibit all the pots. Probably you have already done the above. The flaps will now be on the three position switch. You can use this for camber changing simply by adjusting the flap travel adjust to an appropriate small value, and setting the flap to aileron mix to 100%. There are at least two ways of getting the landing flap settings on to the throttle stick. 1). Use the Mix SP function, as envisaged by the manufacturer. 2). Use the Free Mixers. You will need three mixers, throttle to flap, throttle to aileron (if you want "crow" braking), and throttle to elevator (to compensate for the pitching effect of the flap. I use (2), and use the Mix SP/F, SP/A, and SP/E functions for the launch settings. It works almost exactly the same either way, but my way allows me to use a different offset for the spoiler/elevator mix, which helps in getting the elevator compensation correct. You can't do that with the Mix SP settings (on the 388 at least), but you don't need it for the launch settings. I hope this helps. The 8103 may not be exactly the same, but I think it is very similar. * Ian RoachKiama, NSW Australia [EMAIL PROTECTED] Phone: 61 2 4232 1775 * -Original Message- From: Andrew E.
