Nice... Glad to see Bruce and Gordy are dishing out some good old Southern Hospitality. The Heat and humidity is going to be tough. Best to spend as much time as possible in it to get used to it. Lots of water for towers and pilots alike. And end of day be sure to fully hydrate with beer. :-) Steve Meyer SOAR LSF IV At 06:45 AM 7/21/2005, Jo Grini wrote: From the webpage: 22.july 2005 Woke up to some rain but just 1 hour later there is blue sky and calm hot weather. Re: [RCSE] JrXP8103 Programming Question (Tow Release)
In response to my question regarding tow release programing, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote 3. The three-position FLAP switch just to the left of the display, but again, it's probably too useful to tie up as a tow release. (Of course this all depends upon how your plane's configured, but you haven't mentioned anything about that yet.) As it happens, I use the spoiler for trailing edge camber and butterfly switch for crow so, in fact, the three position FLAP switch is currently not in use. How should I proceed to program it to operate the tow release on channel 8 (Aux 3) on my Jr XP8103? Thanks. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Aerotow in Utah
This morning Tauno Knuuttila and I (Curtis Miner) successfully aerotowed his 1/3 scale ASW-28 with my 1/3 scale Extra 330 L / DA- 100. Neither of us had any experience aerotowing but after reading all we could find on the web (thanks John Derstine and others) we felt we had enough information to try it. Each of the five tows went perfectly. The models got so high that I eventually lost orientation and Tauno released. We had a great time and now we both have the aerotow bug! Is there anyone else in central or northern Utah who has a scale glider and would like to try aerotow or who has a 50cc+ model and would like to tow? I have a 1-3.75 scale DG-600 I would like to have towed. If you are interested in participating or just watching, let one of us know. [RCSE] Good repair service for molded planes
Who does good quality repairs on molded planes? I have a Pike that was damaged this past winter in an RX failure. Fuse has a crack that should be easy to fix (fuse is still straight). Center section is in pretty good shape, with only a 1 chunk in the LE. The wingtips each have 3-4 chunks out of the LE. The important thing is that the spar is intact in all cases. [RCSE] Eastern Iowa Soaring Society, web page and Fall Soar-In
Hello All, The Eastern Iowa Soaring Society has recently moved the web page to: http://www.eiss.us There are pages of and links to several articles and web sites about building, flying and design you might find of interest. The EISS Fall Soar-In, traditionally located at the Antique Airfield, Blakesburg, Iowa, will be held 24 25 September this year. In years past this contest has attracted as many as sixty pilots and over 100 entries in the various events. This is a great location as you can spend a little time in the hangers and museum of the Antique Aircraft Association and enjoy the quiet of a rural Iowa location. The contest is traditionally low key with the emphasis on fun. Follow the link on the first page for complete details. regards, Jim Porter Johnston Iowa USA The airplane stays up because it doesn't have the time to fall. Re: [RCSE] JrXP8103 Programming Question (Tow Release)
David Nasatir [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: As it happens, I use the spoiler for trailing edge camber and butterfly switch for crow so, in fact, the three position FLAP switch is currently not in use. How should I proceed to program it to operate the tow release on channel 8 (Aux 3) on my Jr XP8103? I should have asked which of the programmable mixes you were already using. I was able to achieve what you want by using PROG.Mix4 and PROG.Mix5, but I'm sure it could be done with two of the other mixes instead if necessary. Hopefully you're not already using those two mixes. The reason it's necessary to use two mixes is that PROG.Mix4 is used to cancel the effect of the BTFY (butterfly) switch on AUX3, while PROG.Mix5 is used to assign control of AUX3 to FLP-D (the flap switch down). You could alternately assign the function to FLP-U instead if you like, but I'll show FLP-D in my example. The PROG.Mix4 screen looks like this: - [PROG.Mix4] AUX3 - AUX3 Rate: -100% -100% SW: ON Offset -171 - The PROG.Mix5 screen looks like this: - [PROG.Mix5] AUX3 - AUX3 Rate: -100% -100% SW: FLP-DOFF (OFF appears only when the flap switch is not down.) Offset +171 - To achieve this, start by programming PROG.Mix5. If you do PROG.Mix 4 first, it may interfere with the setting of the two rates in PROG.Mix5. 1. Hit DN and SELECT together to bring up [FUNC.LIST] and then use UP or DN to get to PROG.Mix4. Hit UP and DN together to select that mode and make sure it says INH. If not, hit CLEAR to disable it for now. 2 Hit UP, or repeat step #1, to advance to PROG.Mix5. 3. Use the DATA and CH buttons to set AUX3 on both the left and right sides. You should see AUX3 - AUX3. 4. Make sure the SW: function says ON for now. If it doesn't, use the SELECT button to jump down to SW: and then use the DATA buttons to change it to ON. You'll be changing it to FLP-D shortly, but you'll need it set to ON in order to adjust both of the rates. 5. Use the SELECT button to select Rate. 6. Since you haven't disabled the BTFY switch yet, you can use it to select between the two rates. Select each one and then use the DATA buttons to set it to -100%. 7. Use the SELECT button to select Offset. 8. If you have the BTFY switch down and hit CLEAR, Offset should assume the value -171. If the BTFY switch is up and you hit CLEAR, it should assume the value +171. Use the latter method to set it to +171. (Note: I don't know for sure that your radio will adjust to exactly +/- 171, but it should at least be close to those values. It shouldn't matter what the exact values turns out to be.) 9. Finally, use the SELECT button to go back to SW: and then use the DATA buttons to set it to FLP-D (or to FLP-U if you prefer.) 10. Now program PROG.Mix4. To do this, follow all of the steps above except leave SW: set to ON, and set Offset to -171 as described in step #8. 11. Select MONIT from the [FUNC.LIST] screen and check to see that everything works as intended. Be sure the BTFY switch has no effect on AUX3 under any circumstances. If you need to reverse the way your release servo works, go to REV.SW and use the CH and DATA buttons to reverse channel 8. That's it! Post here on the list again if you have any problems or questions, and of course anyone else here is very welcome to add their comments, suggestions, or corrections. Re: [RCSE] DVD Trailer - One Six Right - The Romance of Flying
I fly for a living and I've been into MSP, DFW, ATL, also flew into Midway. We are based at Addison Texas (KADS), the third or fourth busiest GA airport (USA). Of the 300+ (before gong into VNY) different types and sizes of airports, Van Nuys was the only airport I can think of where the Captain and I watch the traffic take off and land for about 15 minutes before we ever got inside of the FBO to place a fuel order. Maybe the President of Zimbabwe (Global Express. with all the security) or watching the Goodyear blimp do a touch-n-go (yep a blimp! =:-)), and a P51 taking off at the same time had something to do with it. It felt like an air show...it was just amazing the variety of air traffic. If you like airplanes, this will probably be a great film to see. [RCSE] JoJo Burned us today at the Nats Really Warm Up In Louisville
We flew 20 rounds of 5mins with a 100 inch per point tape. It was sooo hot that our chargers nearly started a wing bag on fire, and the winch lines were smoking in the air. At the end of the day, JoJo was 8 points off perfect and I was a miserable 15 points due to a last landing in which a airliner cause a reflection flast that happened to hit me right in the eyes (shouldn't have popped my sunglasses off for the landing!) and caused me to land long. The guy is short but tough. I filled him with so many BBQ ribs (beef and pork) and sauce that his eyes were floating, but it didn't help. A little known fact that Norway's average temp during the entire year is about 90 F with tons of humidity, and all day long while I was sweating buckets he was cool asa fozen turtle and kept humming the lyrics of 'born and bred in a briar patch'...but of course no one could understand cuz of it being in Norwegian and sounded a lot like dropping a marble in a urninal. A vicious competitor he is not above gamesmanship, he kept trying to call me over into lift but he never fooled me so I spent most of my time in my usual spot commonly known by the locals as the sink hole. Take off tomorrow is estimated at about 11am. See you DLG guys at the field.DP too :-) Gordy
