2005-09-22 Thread Oleg Golovidov
For the hand launch pilots who are not on SALglider group and not on the
RCgroups.com for whatever reason...
We are getting close to our annual East Coast HLG Festival 2005, in
Wilson, North Carolina, October 21-22-23.
We will have a warm-up day on Friday, Oct 21, and a practice
contest/clinic for the beginners and first timers. We will go through
the tasks, explain strategies, timing the flights, etc. answer questions
and will run a few rounds just for fun.
On Saturday and Sunday we will have preliminary rounds, and fly-off
rounds on Sunday for the best 6 pilots.
Entertainment will include informal hand-launch F3B contests, foamy
racing, 2 great lunches Saturday and Sunday, pilots raffle, special
prizes for sportsmen and first timers, beer, meeting new and old friends
and other good stuff.

Please visit http://olgol.com/contest for information and to register.
Thermals,
Oleg.

Re: [RCSE] It's Gordy's Fault, Again

2005-09-22 Thread Dan Borer

Hey Gordy--

I've been busy out in the garage putting the finishing touches on my new
Contraddiction--a ratty old Addiction fuse with a set of RES MH32 wings fresh
out of my vacuum bag. If it works as hoped this weekend you'll see it at
Visalia.

Speaking of Visalia, Camp SWSA North will be arriving as early as Wednesday
morning. We'll have at least seven RVs there with a bunch of tents scattered
about too. Last count showed about 30 of us signed up to compete. As always, the
welcome mat will be out and the vinyl cutter will be fired up and ready to
cut!

Next time hopefully the pilot will be more "Advertiser Friendly".
Perhaps a 4 hour landing pattern with several aborted landings.
Enough time to run commercials between the attempts. Add a couple
of overzealous reporters and they can make it the "Event of the
Century". Nothing like media and hype. :-)

I turn off the sound and watch it , much better. Listening to those
who know little to none about it and try to keep talking just to keep
on the air. First they talk about fuel dumping and then later found
out the ere no fuel dump on the A320!! At one time they weren't sure
how many were on board, they mention 137 and said it might
change.who is jumping off and getting on in mid air???!!

Re: [RCSE] Removing wing servo...

2005-09-22 Thread Doug Reel

A few years back I made a tool for adjusting servo arms while they are
still glued into the wings. If a servo arm breaks or in my case, I was
switching to a new radio and the position of the arm needed to be
adjusted for the way I wanted to set up the new radio. Anyway I took a
piece of music wire, about 1/16" but perhaps slightly bigger, and in a
vice I hammered a very tight 90 degree bend in the wire. Then I cut off
one end of the wire just beyond the 90 degree bend and very carefully
using the trusty Dremel I cut a philips head into the end of the music
wire. On the long end of the wire I fashioned a handle out of balsa and
glued the music wire into it. So using the small space in the wing
opening I could insert this tool and 1/4 turn at a time, unscrew the
retaining screw at the servo arm, readjust the arm and and screw the
retaining screw back on. I've since used this many times and it has come
in handy at doing field repairs at races when someone lands with the
flaps down at breaks their horn and it must be replaced or end their day
of racing. I hope this helps.

Thanks to all who provided tons of suggestions and solutions over the last few days on this.
The operation went successfully, using a combination of heat-gun application and a string wrapped 'round the "shoulder" of the servo output shaft/case (to tug / shock-load the thing).  I *did* take a tiny hunk of fiberglass with the servo, exposing the wing foam, but a dime-sized patch of thick foam-safe CA and some filler material took care of that.
Plane is back in the air and flying fine!

one end of the wire just beyond the 90 degree bend and very carefully
using the trusty Dremel I cut a philips head into the end of the music

I am planning to use clear Ozcover Lite to cover my 2m Wind Dancer
wing. I know you can paint it after covering, but I would like a
translucent finish, and to save the weight of the paint.

Any ideas on how I can dye the adhesive side of the film before
covering? One suggestion is aerosol paint lightly sprayed on the
adhesive side, my concern would be getting an even coat. Other
suggestions include fabric dye, red ink and red wine!

Since you are talking about the center section of a Graphite and hot
melt glue just use your heat gun on the back side and soften the glue
from the wing. At some point the glue will release all at once or you
can peel the glue away a little at a time. Either way the heat guns
heat will get you farther and safer than cutting.

We have been using it for over a year now with little problems. I can reset
the pickup arm using my foot and step on a foot switch after my zoom to
retrieve the parachute. Thus, Hands Free. Several times I've gone flying by

landing two miles out. Another story. I can send you a videotape if you want

Ken,

Pull your head out of your arse and look at this thing with a little reality.
Everybody involved played a role in the fiasco down there. If it was so much
the Local Governments responsibility, then I wonder why the Federal Government
is so heavily involved this time with Rita approaching Texas. Could it have
anything to do with what state our Village Idiot (oops I mean President) is
from? I would like to hope not, but I do believe it does. The Federal
Government could have just as easily staged for Katrina as they have for Rita,
if they had not had there heads buried in their respective arses as well.

Re: [RCSE] WHO IS RESPONSIBLE ?

2005-09-22 Thread Lee Estingoy

Your analysis is just wrong. Wrong to be on the list, and wrong otherwise.

As with ANY political fiasco, there are many facets to the story. Unless
you know most, you are simply not qualified to comment. Simply sitting your
___ in front of FOX does not make you qulified in the least to comment,
although it might make you slightly more informed than the morons you are
rooting for.

1. Undoubtedly everybody screwed up.
2. This was actually a successful evacuation. You should go back and
research the recent efforts for the near-miss events of the past 3 or 4
years.
3. I doubt you know anything about the legal responsibilities of the the
levee districts and their co-ordination with the US A Corps of Engineers.
Stifle your comments unless you know the truth. Your knowledge of the the
casino is wrong.
4. The Bush administration has been exposed for it's incompetence and
willingness to appoint "Nothingburgers" to office. I offer Chertoff, Brown,
as well as Rice, maintaining Tenet, etc. For more, see the articles in the
papers today about their appointment for the head of the morph that used to
be Immigration. A 36 year old lawyer woman who hasn't held a single job for
more than 24 months... See also "unfunded mandates" such as no child left
behind, and perhaps even that little reported event - IRAQ as examples of
foresight and leadership.
5. Regardless of how the locals screwed up, the feds are part of the plan to
get relief in after the storm. The locals had supplies for what was planned
for, the feds and likely the state, dropped the plan.
6. Compare with the Bush administration's masterful handling of the looting
in Baghdad in the hours and days after the "victorious" conqueration(?) of
Iraq.
7. The only thing that was missing from that idiot's speeches in and around
New Orleans in the aftermath was a declaration that he was waiting for the
people of New Orleans to draft a new constitution.
8. You fail to mention what part of the country you call home. Thank your
lucky stars and hug your baby, say a prayer that YOU aren't reliant on the
FEDS for relief from a catastrophy. You simply have no idea of the scope of
the disaster down there.
9. Once the US military was finally tasked to deal with things, amazing
stuff started to happen.

10. Leadership DOES NOT EXIST in the EXECUTIVE branch.

BTW, I was a resident of New Orleans for 35 of the past 39 years. My family
made it out OK, they lost 6 of 9 houses.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE

In case you aren't familiar with how our government is SUPPOSED to work:

The chain of responsibility for the protection of the citizens in New
Orleans is:
1. The Mayor
2. The New Orleans director of Homeland Security (a political
appointee of the Governor who reports to the Governor)
3. The Governor
4. The Head of Homeland Security
5. The President

What did each do?

1. The mayor, with 5 days advance, waited until 2 days before he
announced a mandatory evacuation (at the behest of the President).
Then he failed to provide transportation for those without transport
even though he had hundreds of buses at his disposal.

2. The New Orleans director of Homeland Security failed to have any
plan for a contingency that has been talked about for 50 years. Then
he blames the Feds for not doing what he should have done. (So much!
for political appointees)

3. The Governor, despite a declaration of disaster by the President 2
DAYS BEFORE the storm hit, failed to take advantage of the offer of
Federal troops and aid. Until 2 DAYS AFTER the storm hit.

4. The Director of Homeland Security positioned assets in the area to
be ready when the Governor called for them

5. The President urged a mandatory evacuation, and even declared a
disaster State of Emergency, freeing up millions of dollars of federal
assistance, should the Governor decide to use it.

Oh and by the way, the levees that broke were the responsibility of
the local landowners and the local levee board to maintain, NOT THE
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
The levee board had extra money so they bought a casino and a jet
airplane to travel around in.
The disaster in New Orleans is what you get after decades of corrupt
(democrat) government going all the way back to Huey Long.

[RCSE] WHO IS RESPONSIBLE ?

2005-09-22 Thread Lighthorse
I just ran across this and thought it interesting
