[RCSE] A320 Landing

2005-09-23 Thread JMiller
Sorry guys, his plane shedd a few parts on landing, so no points can be
allowed. I don't care if was 6 off the center line, he did keep it
going straight on the runway. Flight points are allowed.

But that pilot did a damn good job, you can't berate that fact.
Also, he allowed all the passengers to watch the event on live TV as
it was happening, just as you got to see it. They mostly had lots of
praise for him too.

While thumbing (mousing?) through Harbor Freights on line web site I ran across a 249 piece rotary tool accessory set for $25. This isnt a sale price so you might want to wait until it goes on sale. The link is below. From what I see, its got the best selection and assortment for what we do. I just thought Id pass it on.

[RCSE] Real building projects

2005-09-23 Thread Harley Michaelis

I think of building, as it applies to other modelers, of at least
completing a kit for which most of the parts, but especially wings and tail
pieces, require assembly.

Building as it applies to me, has a stricter sense, which for most of my
life has meant scratch building everything but hardware from raw materials.

The last few years, though, I've used Les Horvath prepared foam cores to do
carbon cloth covered vacuum-bagged wings and have finally succumbed to using
composite fuselages. However, I did make the plugs from which molds were
made and from which fuses are being made.

I suspect everyone who reads this knows about my 145-1/2 span, big Genie
design. If not, see http://genie.rchomepage.com/ about the Genie line of
scratch-buildable, competition airframes.

I've just finished the 28th one and this one for another party with some
custom features for F3J high stress towing. I built it liesurely and with
special care over the last several weeks.

Ready fly, the all up, RTF weight is just 80.7 oz. on the 3 piece, 8.75 sq.
ft. wing ship.

This is not a butterfly, floater type ship. It is rugged and more aptly
described as a dreadnaught or juggernaut.

As is always used, wing cores are blue Dow High Load 60 foam, has the usual
Kevlar wrapped, double tapered CF spar system, overall 4.7 carbon cloth,
plus 1.4 oz glass on a bias, real wood LE, glassed-over before bagging and
that beautifully engineered composite fuse made by Keith Smith.

On this one, though, an 8.2 oz. 5 cell 2000MAH airborne battery was to be
carried, heavy duty blue-tempered, clock-spring steel blades used for tip
support, a heavy duty Hoopes Harness installed and a stab set reinforced
with CF capped spars.

I just got back from doing some initial hand tosses amid soccer clutter at
the Community College field. 200 feet from a gentle hand toss. What a glide
and so straight and true! . .wow!. .Wow! . WOW!

Tomorrow, I'll drive where I can do big launches, do some fine trimming and
then reluctantly put it away for the buyer.

I absolutely have to have one just like this one for me for next year. Cores
for #29 have been ordered.

Oh, yeah, the composite fuse for the 10' span Genie LT/S is shortly to be in
production. With it, the all up weight should be 56-58 ounces. This is
another rugged ship that will do a most-spirited deep dip and zoom launch.

Now is the time to get serious about a project for winter and it's a far
better thing to do than watch bad news you can do so little about.

[RCSE] For Sale - Laser Arts Majestic Kit with Pushrods on eBay

2005-09-23 Thread Davin Bentti
Laser Arts Majestic: This is a kit, still in the box.
I opened the box, looked at the parts and said
“Someday I’m going to build that.” Then it sat on my
shelf. I won’t be able to build this winter, so I’m
going to part with it. My loss can be your gain!

The plans require two pushrods, which I purchased, and
are still in their packaging. The kit alone sells for
$120 at Laser Arts (which doesn't include shipping).
I'm selling both the kit and pushrods together, so
here's a chance for a great bargain on a great RES
sailplane kit.

[RCSE] Mark's Models Bird of Time Kit

2005-09-23 Thread Loren Blinde
I have a Mark's Models Bird of Time kit that can be had for $75 plus
shipping. The kit box has apparently been through a serious rain storm, as
the label is nearly washed out. But the contents are intact and in good
shape. Small parts and hardware are still in plastic bags. Included is a
pristine RCM plan with a reprint of the '79 Thornburg construction article
(the best sailplane article ever written in my humble opinion) and the
original construction photo sheet.

If you like your 60 oz. RFT Bird of Time, you're gonna LOVE a 43 ounce
version with extremities so light they respond to belching butterflies and
wings with the strength of actual vertical grain shear webs. This is the
kit of the design as it was meant to fly.

Preference to PayPal payment and UPS shipping. Reply off line if you're
interested.

Thanks,
Loren

Bacus the Top Dog Bacus takes the OVSS trophy?
Not unless you Marc or Karl post some good scores at the FRU.

I would say it's still up for grabs. :-)

Is Bacus going to be there to defend his lead? Will Marc or Karl garnish a
win to become the OVSS champion?

Marc has gone through his slump, he was hot the second day of Fred. He's
at the top of his game. It's a real horse race for 3 top notch pilots.

Wow. I'll be there to see for myself how the drama unfolds.

Any ideas on how I can dye the adhesive side of the film before
covering? One suggestion is aerosol paint lightly sprayed on the
adhesive side, my concern would be getting an even coat. Other
suggestions include fabric dye, red ink and red wine!

Hello,

Any reason why you would not just use ultracote lite? It is pretty
light stuff, and you can get it in translucent.

Several years ago a guy named Rolland Klingberg used to sell this
really thin/light transparent covering. This was before Ultracote
Lite came out. I bought some, and managed to die it using RIT die.
I put the die and water in a big pot on my stove and heated the pot
up somewhat, and then put the pre cut pieces of covering in the pot
and mixed it around for an hour. It did die the covering
translucent, but it was a very light coloring. Much lighter than
your standard ¡§transparent¡¨ covering. End result also had a
slight ¡§tie die¡¨ result.

You can also use magic markers to color the adhesive side of the
covering, at least you could with the stuff Klingberg was selling. I
also used that, although it was kind of ugly. Or perhaps I am not
very good with the markers! ļ
