[RCSE] GENIE WEB PAGES MAJOR UPDATE
Since the last update the end of April, each file has been edited, some extensively. Friend Jay Decker has once again generously taken time to update the web pages found at http://genie.rchomepage.com/. Major changes and additions were made while building big GENIE #28, a 2ND GENIE PRO and a 9th LT/S, all with the available composite fuselages that save much time. At nominal costs (see File 5) these unique, rugged and very high performance, scratch-buildable sailplanes fill the widening void between the expensive, RTF full house, molded airframes and kits that just can't match their performance. While do-it-yourself projects, much is available to help including fine CNC cut wing cores and the composite fuselages. See the WHAT'S AVAILABLE file. With these major things ready to use, it becomes realistic even for modelers with limited experience to build one of these outstanding airframes. File 1 at its end now details how to install a rugged, removable single tooth skid in composite fuselages. File 2 now details how to do "knuckle hinging" of built-up rudders to a glassed-over solid balsa fin. File 3, the bagged wing file, covers pre-bagging and post-bagging steps. It has been extensively revised to help navigate the bagging procedure. File 4 has an updated Materials List and tells where to get things. File 6, the RDS file, goes into the most recently discovered ways to easily make and install the parts for this all-internal system of moving flaps and ailerons. It also details how the adapter for the Volz servos can be easily modified to use with the Hitec 125 and the JR 168 thin wing servos. In this file and in File 3, a dedicated servo mounting system is detailed to simplify attach and detach, since existing commercial servo mounts have such limited use in the RDS. File 7 is now THE COMPOSITE FUSELAGES file. It contains extensive text and pics detailing how to deal with these. In the LT/S section, details are given on how to install the bell crank hardware in the composite fin and "knuckle hinge" a built-up rudder to it. All-in-all, the web pages are in the best shape ever and provide a no cost, liberal education about making your own fine airframes with strong, beautiful, vacuum-bagged wings. They'll handle hardest full pedal launches and the deep dip and zoom with ease. The season to build things for next year is on us. I'm going to do my 29th big GENIE and another LT/S with composite fuses. I may even find time to build a brand new one for someone else. I'm about out of storage space though, and will likely have to sell off a couple of existing ones to make space for the new ones. Why not join me in a worthy winter project? For those who will, I'll always take time to answer your e-mailed questions that may not be covered in the web pages. Harley, LSF 023. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Re Nats
I have been following the threads all day regarding the Nationals. It occurs to me as a Brit this is exactly what the problem was in Britain with the SMAE Society of Model Aeronautical Engineers the equivalent to AMA thus was formed the BARCS British Association of Radio Controlled Soarers which I believe is still going today. Unfortunately due to the power of the SMAE it was able to insist that SMAE event entries had to show membership to SMAE albeit BARCS had better insurance cover for less outlay ! I guess we have to keep the jolly ole chin up chaps an grin an bear it like ! david alchin [EMAIL PROTECTED] Why Wait? Move to EarthLink. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Re: ID this used sailplane for me?
The style looks more Dodgson / Maestro Megan than Renaud/ Aquila. And you are right, the busy mechanicals smack of Dodgson as well. The Maestro Megan's wingspan was 128", or 140" with wing tip extensions (11' = 132"). It's fuselage was a fiberglass taco shell open on the top, then decked with balsa wood & glass. It's high startable with something as light as a heavy duty high start, but take it easy with the elevator and "fly" it up. A little wind will help. Launch it level with a firm toss and let the nose rotate up on it's own as it gains speed. Get too eager with the elevator and it will stall on a HD's line. A "garden-hose" variety high start or winch would be better suited to getting it into the air. The spar is not "weak", but it was designed before today's killer winch launches became the norm. Don't stand on the winch pedal. Re: Re: [RCSE] Nats Issue and AMA ED
I remember hearing somewhere that AMA has had some members stopping in wanting to fly at the AMA site but were disappointed that they were denied because there was an official event on the site. Don't remember where I heard this. I have certainly never heard of any problems with local fliers complaining about not being able to fly at the AMA site. I can understand why many sailplane fliers don't want anything to do with contest the way most of them are conducted today. We seem to have two types of sailplane fliers. Those who only want to fly MOM and those who want nothing to do with contests. How about a contest somewhere in between MOM and fun flying. Used to be a lot of them but not any more. :-( Chuck Anderson RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Dan, That is a falicy that the Muncie Sky Chiefs have learned, they have another field now. The MIST soaring club also has an alternate. The AMA never intended the IAC to be purchased for or it's design for just the locals. When it works, many locals do fly there and enjoy the facility, but it is a catch as catch can use proposition. I guess we should all write the editor telling him how disappointed we are in not seeing full NATS coverage. James V. Bacus wrote: That's not what I heard from the editor of the mag. I heard that the AMA received numerous letters from members that were tired of seeing an entire issue about competition. There is a similar issue with members not liking the AMA facilities and grounds being used for an entire month for competition which they supposedly received letters about. So a number of days was cut from Nats this year. So in one year we almost lost a day at Nats, but shifted to starting on Friday to keep all the dates and we have lost the magazine coverage for the Nats. It seems a growing number of modelers are not interested in contest flying. I think that's unfortunate because that's my favorite part about soaring. And the Nats issue was my favorite issue for the entire year, now it's just a Christmas catalog of advertisements. Re: [RCSE] Nats Issue and AMA ED
Primarily, the AMA field is the home to several free flight contests each year. Check the 2005 AMA on line calendar for specific usage, I'm thinking the club sanctioned FF events add up to about a month. I have not heard the Muncie guys complaining about the AMA field, they have their own flying site where they hold most of their monthlies. Outside of the Nats, the field is basically open during the week days all year and is used by the locals for FF, power and sailplane flying as well as visitors from around the country arriving in motor homes. I have seen large groups of youth being taught power flying by AMA employees, so as far as the field is concerned, AMA is on the right track in trying to promote the hobby. There are just a few sailplane clubs that do a bang up job of helping beginners. Tom, from my Sky Bench experience, I can tell you there are more guys flying sailplanes that don't belong to clubs than do belong. Re: [RCSE] Nats Issue and AMA ED
It would seem to me that if they can give many pages to large contests like Top Gun or Joe Nall or the other big commercial meets that they can give coverage for our National Champoinships. After all it is the AMA that is putting it on and they have a duty to it's members to report on the chamopins of all forms of our hobby. Not everyone has a computer to get the daily NATS news and so in my opinion it should be in one special edition of Model Aviation. How else are they going to let the members know? I just cannot see how members would not want to know who their National champs are but would rather know who won Top Gun. Mark Miller __ Yahoo! For true seeded MOM, if you have less than ~40 guys, having a dedicated scorer or two and working from cards works best, but hopefully that can change. In my experience, under the above circumstances, most guys using computers just slow things down except Will Sears in Ft. Wayne IN at the LOFT club, he is the best with a computer bar none. Re: [RCSE] Wanted: Seeded MOM Computer Scoring
Cal Posthuma created an Excel spreadsheet that we use for the 2M Seeded MOM contest. I'm sure he would share it. Basically it's a two step process. I thought you patted down all your passengers just to be safe? Or maybe that was the policy when Karen asked for a ride? Steve At 01:03 PM 10/31/2005, Daryl Perkins wrote: ... [RCSE] Road trip....
...OK... last year you pansies told me I didn't give you enough notice to fly with me to Muncie to attend the NATS. Well, with all this banter about the NATS coverage... I thought I'd mention I'll be taking the 421 to Muncie this upcoming year. Right seat is already spoken for... that leaves 4-5 comfortable seats. Nothing in stone as of yet as far as dates go... depends on who's joining me... and when they would like to go and return. I'll definitely be there for F3B through unlimited. Drop me a line offline, and let's figure it out. It's way more fun than that damn commercial thing... D __ Yahoo! I make my "minority" status known when I do my AMA renewals. I don't check any other interst than soaring. Plus FAI events. It avoids any confusion when creating lies from the numbers in the surveys.
