[RCSE] JR Scan select receiver feedback

2006-07-09 Thread ownee77

I am looking for feedback on the new JR R720 Scan select receiver.
Anybody been using in in thermal duration planes? Pro or cons in operation?
Thanks,

Just maidened my Pulsar e-glider this morning with a new JR720 in it. Range
tested fine and all seemed nominal during the flights. I'll report back again
after I get it fully specked.

Got one a week or so ago and the range check was about 1/2 that of a Hitec
Super Slim in identical setups. Now I am in a quandry as I don't know
whether the Hitec is that good or do I have a defective JR. It's been a
few months but as I recall I got similar results comparing a Shadow 3 to
the Hitec. I relegated the Shadow to an electric that doesn't get very far
away. Really frustrating as I would like a good small synth rx to go with
the Evo.

I have been testing a Hitec Fusion 9 receiver in an old sailplane to
see if it can replace my trusty Super Slim. So far, everything looks
good (except for the price). Ground range check with the antenna
collapsed completely inside the case is almost identical to the Super
Slim. I have the crystal controlled Evo so being synthesized isn't
of any value right now. When I get around to replacing the Super
Slims, I may have a reason for getting a synthesized module for my Evos.

2006-07-09 Thread Bill's Email
Can anyone tell me the relationship between antenna down ground range
and antenna up airborne performance?? What exactly is the mathematical
relationship?? If this is real, then it should be able to be written in
a formula.

No other radio device that I know of tests its performance by taking
the antenna off to see what it does. But somehow we in the RC world have
convinced ourselves that this is meaningful.

I have been looking at them in the magazines and on line for about three
months now and they seem to look just fine. I haven't tried to look at
them with my antenna down, or while holding a plane but I can tell you that with
my new distance optimized sunglasses I can see the ad's really far away and
that's with out an antenna.

Hope this helps!

[RCSE] Hitec Fusion 9 Channel IPD RX's...tested and flown.

2006-07-09 Thread GordySoar

Hi guys,

I have gone to extending my RX antenna's so that about 16" hangs out the
rudder line of all my ships, regardless of RX brand or plane.

With the Fusion, I got over 150 yards of ground range using a Stylus with
the antenna collapsed. Likely I could have gotten more but got
bored.

That was using a Picolario for glitch reports and having someone watch for
jitters.

And while on the topic of Jitters... the Fusion allows you to turn off the
IPD if you want to make it a simple FM RX. With the IPD 'on' the digital
servos get SERIOUSLY quiet...

Range didn't change with it on or off.

I tested it this way in my Pike Giant, Sharon and the World's Heaviest
Carbon Supra In the World. All with the same results.

I really like the Fusion, it fits in the plane nicely and is very easy to
program, AND you can use a Polk Remote program button ...if you don't want to
have to poke in to the case for the Set Button.
About a month or two of flying on it so farin Gordy years that's equal
to most you guys flying it for a year :)

Just what is the Polk Remote program button and how do I get one
without buying a Polk receiver.

On antenna extension . I always have at least one section of the
antenna extended whenever the transmitter is on except when range
checking. Learned about this the hard way about 40 years ago with my
first Microavionics transmitter. I have trouble walking far enough
to range check with one section of the antenna extended.

[RCSE] JR Scan Select receiver feedback

2006-07-09 Thread Keith Blair

I purchased an R720 at a local hobby store and installed in
a multifunction glider with 4 JR digital servos and 2 Hitec analog servos. The
digital servos made quite a bit of noise (noticeable to others waiting for the
winch) similar to jitter but without actually moving the servo arms. The
analog servos were quiet and steady. The plane flew fine, even at distance, but
it always made quite a bit of noise. Also, several of the more experienced members
commented that it was louder than they would expect.

When I got the plane home, I switched out the ScanSelect
with a normal R700. All the digital (and analog) servos were immediately quiet.
I swapped it back and forth a few times to make sure it wasnt my wiring,
and continued to get consistent results showing that the R720 was the problem.
I took it back to the local hobby store (Larrys Hobbies) and they
immediately replaced it only asking me to call back and let them know
if the new one worked better. I called them back saying that the new one was
just as quiet as my R700. They sent the old one back to JR who indicated that
they have not heard of such a problem and mine could have just been an anomaly.
Certainly, the new one works just fine.

It looks like a good product (it sure is easy to use!),
backed by a quality company, and is supported by a reputable dealer network.
Whats not to like?

-Keith

Sacramento area, or I would be glad to deliver at Visalia upon prepayment.
Here is a chance to get into the air right now without shelling out $2000 to
put one of the latest and greatest Euro molded planes in the air.

Here is the list of built planes:

Mark LeVoe Super V 100. $400

Airtronics Thermal Eagle, repaired fuse and wing from a midair. $350

Dodgson Designs Maestro MK III, one wing has been rebuilt to like new after a
break, no other damage. $400

Airtronics Grand Esprit, one main panel scratch rebuilt to like new. $350

Dodgson Designs Lovesong, built in the modern mode, bagged wings, 6 servo set
up. This plane took 3rd at Visalia in 2003. $600

Sagitta 900. Glassed fuse, separate spoiler servos. $300

2006-07-09 Thread Adam Weston

Well, I hate to do this, but the HLG contest scheduled for July 8th at 60-Acres has been canceled! The county has decided to split our reservation with soccer parking and due to safety concerns and other coordination issues, the club has decided both activities (parking and flying) cannot be conducted at the same time.Additionally, the August 12-13th 2-day hand launch contest at 60-Acres has also been canceled, for the same reason. For over a decade, the SASS HLG contests have been one of the driving forces in HLG development, its tragic to see this tradition squash by short sighted county functionals. Some of the SASS members are planning some form of protest... the details are not yet finalized.Check the SASS_club Yahoo Group or SASS website for further details.Hopefully we'll still be able to have our September(23-24) HLG 2-day... it will be held in Tri-Cities at the Pasco Sod Farm.Details to follow.Therm

Typically, the AMA will post the scores of the NATS events in the NATS News

If some volunteer wishes to post results on RC Groups, then that's a good
