RE: [RCSE] LSF 8 hr task, where at?

2006-10-29 Thread glide
A few fortunate slope flyers from around the world experienced Camp Maluhia
as one of the best inland slope flying areas to fly here in the state of
Hawaii. There is about 300 days of the year that consist of sunny and
consistent trade wind weather. Did I mention that a few national AMA slope
duration records have been set here also?

Re: [RCSE] LSF 8 hr task, where at?

2006-10-29 Thread Jon Stone

Many midwest pilots have completed their 8-hour slope tasks at 1/2 mile
long earthen dam in Brookville,
IN.   Winds from the S are what you want for that location.  I did
my 8-hour flight there, and it's a great place for the task.  If you
visit one of the archives for RCSE, such as http://mail-archive.com/soaring%40airage.com/
or the YahooGroups site, and search for Brookville, you will get lots
of testimonies.

All you want is a slope where the wind will stay up all day with smooth
air, and a decent place to land.  From your location, look into the
Pompano Hill Flyers.    http://www.phflyers.com/
They might be up to allowing your attempt.  I'd suggest contacting them
first.

I did my 8 hr slope in the Grand Bend area north east from Sarnia, Canada. I
was facing northwest into Lake Huron. Also in northwestern corner of the lower
penninsula of Michigan are two great sites at Frankfort and the Sleeping bear
Dunes, both facing west into Lake Michigan.

[RCSE] plane rentals

2006-10-29 Thread Andrew Famiglietti

Hi
I'm contemplating getting out of the cold winter weather
this year and might go to going El Centro in Imperial Ca. Does anyone know
of an airport close to El Centro where I could rent a plane so as to see the
countryside from the air.

  Thank

Andrew

[RCSE] Midwest flyers - who took advantage of the wind?

2006-10-29 Thread Brent
I'm just curious - who else went out yesterday and did any sloping in that
wind?? We hit a local dam that is usually just ok, and it 45+ it was epic.

I dragged my brother and two other locals out, made my brother fly his
(previously) immaculate HalfPipe 48, shared my HP and a heavier M60 with a
non-sloping DART, and I broke out the much heavier Bluto 56.

All of it was in the wrong weight class, all of it was a blast. If you
could get a launch and get 30 feet out without being blown back over your
head (and into Lake Wally), you were safe for a few seconds at least. Gusts
were coming in well over 50, and you can't really say you were controlling
the ship all that much at that point - I watched my ship being shaken 3 feet
up and down at a rate of about 3 shakes a second, really can't believe it
didn't just snap.

Anyway, it was wild - was just wondering if anyone else had a chance to try
this out, know it was kind of a rare system for this part of the country
(without snow on the ground, at least).

Lift!
Brent

[RCSE] FS NIB Gladiator DLG

2006-10-29 Thread Jack Iafret
One of our club members wants to sell his NIB Gladiator DLG because he
will never fly it. I guess it was an impulse buy and now he wants some
cash for other planes.

Price on Soaring USA is $350 and he will sell it for $270 plus shipping
cost.

I am trying to sell it for him as he does not know anything about the
exchange or other groups (he is here from Russia on work assignment) and
he knows I sell stuff for Kennedy Composites so asked me to help him out.

Contact me off line if you are interested.

[RCSE] Re: Final Glide - NTSB Report on Mark Navarre

2006-10-29 Thread schrederman

Mark was a good pilot... both R/C and full scale. I met him a couple of
times and we exchanged emails a couple of times. We had very similar
interests, both being glider pilots and R/C pilots. He is sorely
missed.

[RCSE] FS NIB Gladiator

2006-10-29 Thread Jack Iafret

One of our GDSHS friends has a NIB Gladiator for sell.

It is listed on Icare or Soaring USA at $350 but he is looking for cash
and wants $280 plus shipping.

I have the plane as he is not "connected" with the soaring community and
it looks a lot like a Blaster with solid balsa tail feathers rather than
the built up ones on the Blaster. Wing (hollow molded) looks very much
like the Blaster and the plane has a nice nose cone and equipment bay.
Should be an easy build.

Let me know if you are interested.

Nice Christmas present.

[RCSE] Whyte Wings Jade Questions

2006-10-29 Thread Richard N. Shagam
A few years ago I picked up an almost NIB Whyte Wings Jade on e-Bay, and have
finally gotten around to building it. I notice that included in the box I
received are wing tips that are angled up a bit and extend the wing span to
about 112"--about 6" beyond where the ailerons end, rather than the advertised
100" which ends in tip blocks, as pictured on the box. Was this an alternate
production version, or could the previous owner been involved in some sort of
kit part swapping? Otherwise, everything fits perfectly to the high standards
I've always found in Whyte Wings' products--the plane is building up
beautifully.

Second question--awhat's the airfoil used in the Jade?
