[RCSE] How about Cumberland...

2006-11-01 Thread GordySoar

Gordy won't be there :-(
But likely Joe Melchoir might, I asked him to do my 8 hour for me up
there, so he'll need some witnesses :)
I LOVE Cumberland sloping, had some of my best slope experiences
bumping up that road and on the field.
Anyone who hasn't had a chance to do 'alpine' type slope soaring, this
is one of the best places, and when the full size Blaniks fly over at hi-start
height its very cool.
Good luck and good weather!
I'll be in NJ next week, Atlantic City, Bridgeton, Long Branch, Highlands
then up to Staten Island and Saltaire.
Then look out Cincy!

Yes, but Gordy still probably needs his 8 hour slope
taskAnd the road up to the top of the slope is perfect for models
falling off the back of his truck.

[RCSE] Save 60 Acres - anonymous by mail No it wasn't me!

2006-11-01 Thread GordySoar

anonymous by
mail$200

For all of you guys who have never flown 60 acres, you may never
get the chance unless you get off your computer butts and send some cash.

And don't make it anonymous by mail, they don't need
silent partners in this battle. Send the money and tell everyone that you
are in the game!

I'll give $201, who'll match it andUP that by a buck, the
goal is $205.

Thanksgiving is coming up, and you could give to some well meant
charity that will suck up about 80% of your donation in administrative fees, or
you can send it to the Seattle guys where ALL of it will get sucked up in
administrative fees...the way it needs to in this case...that's what will set a
precedent for future take-over/occupation attempts by Soccer and the like.
Keep in mind this is an OFFICIAL Thermal Wizard

[RCSE] For those of you who heard something dramatic happened at TNT...

2006-11-01 Thread GordySoar

You are RIGHT, I did win RES for my first LSF5 contest win, but if
you really want dramatic, and yes its true
Rick Helgeson has stepped up and put his money where your's should be
$202 leads the way for the
next three guys to DO something versus just posting aboutsaving that
field.

Don't even doubt that this very well could be that precedent to protect
other fields from occupation, or eviction.

And don't forget our slogan, when rc sailplaning is outlawed, only outlaws
will be doing it...because there won't be any legal sites to fly at.

DO the one thing that you can do from your shop about this ...send some
cash.

Here's the way I see it. There are guys in the hobby that keep it
going by 'doing'. Those guys who CD, take care of equipment, teach, win
big...those guys are the do'ers. The rest of us are enjoying the
effort. This is our chance to DO something for the hobby.

I went around the neighborhood and raked leaves till I had the cash (don't
tell my wife that I did that for strangers, she'll expect me to do it at
home!). (The rumor that I got out on trick or treat nite and stole change
from the kids bags is mostly un-true!)

Step up, or sign in or what ever it takes to DO your part for our friends
flying at 60 Acres.

[RCSE] Aerotow Safety Checks

2006-11-01 Thread Les or Gypsy Stockley
Hi all,
I am part of a committee here in NZ that has been asked to look at
implementing safety rules regarding inspections of large aerotowed models.
I see you have some pretty large scale sailplanes in use over there and I
assume you are likely to have some sort of safety/inspection checklist at
major events before the glider is allowed to participate?
If you have a copy I could view please send to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Also, we need a suitable rule of thumb for tow release checks. At what
point does the tow release mechanism still need to release? Under a load
equal to the weight of the glider or 2x weight etc.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks, Les.

[RCSE] For Sale - Stratos 5 - RTF

2006-11-01 Thread Greg Smith
Guys,

Here is another one:

Stratos 5 -RTF

RTF - Just drop in your receiver and you are airborne. If you use a
SuperSlim it will even be balanced perfectly!

Weight Ready to fly = 76.5 ounces.

2 - Micro-maxx in the fuse
4 - Wing-maxx digitals in the wings

This plane is in excellent shape with no crashes and flies great I only wish
I could fly it more often just doesn't make sense at this point to simply
look at it! It is an excellent slope ship and it is the first plane I
winched in over 20 years. Goes up the line straight and true. Mike Fox even
mentioned that it zooms well, could have been the pilot though!

I am not sure what the lay-up is but I can see both carbon and glass.

$1200 shipped in the Continental US.

See pix at:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=591317

The previous owner passed along these bits of info as well:

It was originally Rolf Oetter's heavy air ship for the 2004 F3J worlds. It
was specially built for the team to meet Arend and Rolfs specs. IT is not
far off what would be the absolutely best materials selection from the
builder. In others words the highest performance materials, and kept as
light as possible.

I have it on good authority the wings are extremely strong on this
airframes. I originally bought it for spirited sloping, but other aircraft
(IMAC - EDF) sorta made my existing slope fleet seem more than adequate :^)
