Re: [RCSE] The Stylus, Airtronics, Can't wait forever
Keith, Last night I set up a molded eagle on the rds8000. I used the dual aileron setup as described in the manual on ch2 and ch6. Put the flaps on throttle (ch3) and aux2 (ch8). For the flaps, use c-mix1 MAS TH, SLV ch8, mix at about 75%. Set the EPA of ch8 at 0 for both ends (use the right upper switch to select aux2 hi - lo). Make sure that the slave flap goes the correct directiona. Use ch8 CENT to set the slave flap up position. On Thu, May 1, 2008 at 7:10 AM, Mark Howard [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Keith, There is a 3 position switch that will set flaps and reflex. There is also a provision for crow. There are 2 c-mixes that will mix any channel to any channel. The c-mixes are on a switch so you get only one at at a time. I'm thinking that you use a 100% throttle to flap mix for what you want. I haven't done a sailplane on this radio but I'm going to look into it. If it can do that, then that's all I need, since I only fly my gliders on the slope anymore. Not particularly interested in launch camber or other settings for TD work. I'm thinking of using this radio for my big, full house slopers (2 aileron, 2 flap, elev, rud). Do you think it would work okay for that? Keith RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] 2A2FER on RDS8000
Oops - sent last email before it was cooked. It's time to change the subject anyway. So once you've got the servos plugged into the correct channels and the flap mix worked out, you can use the 3 pos switch to set the camber and reflex. Note that camber is only going to work on the ailerons, as we chose to use the throttle for actuating the flaps. Set reflex by putting the 3pos switch in the normal position (not the center position) - and adjusting the aileron and PF CNT (ch's 26) for what you like for reflex. Move the 3pos switch to center and use the FLAP EPA to center the ailerons - then use the other FLAP EPA to set camber. I do not like the 3pos switch on the right so I moved it to the left side and flipped it over so the away position is reflex just like the stylus. This is the recommended switch arrangement for helis (3pos on left). Unfortunately, you cannot get a launch preset for the flaps. I tried using the gear switch and cmix2 G-THR but it only moves one flap as the mixes are not pass-thru (they mix channel- channel not function - function). You can get elevator comp mix for the flaps using the throttle- elevator mix. One item you might find trouble with is the operation of the on-off slide switch on the left side labeled CMIX1-2,AUX1. I was confused if this switch was used for: 1. Aileron- Rudder Mix ON/OFF 2. AUX1 HI- LO 3. CMIX1 or 2 ON/OFF It turns out if does all 3. It definitely turns on/off aileron to rudder mix. It also turns on/off BOTH CMIX1 AND CMIX2. I can't see that it actually activates AUX1 to either high or low but it does select AUX1 high or low when setting the EPA for ch7. The switch on the right does the same for AUX2. Why is this important? If you're using either CMIX full time, you need to leave the left side switch in the up positon at all times. If you turn it off with this setup, the slave flap on aux2 goes down. You can't turn AI-RU mix off without turning off cmixes either. Not well thought out at all. Oh well. So because of the camber and launch setup limitations, this is not really a useable setup for TD, but is fine for a 2A2FER slope plane. I plan on copying this setup to use on a full-house electric (using the gear channel for the throttle). Mark RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] 2A2FER on RDS8000
You have summarized what I posted about 2 years ago regarding this radio. People keep posting that it is suitable for TD and DLG's but really its not at all. You may be able to find a way to attain a pre set camber position. IMHO this is not acceptable because camber is like a musical instrument you tune while you fly you don't just throw it on and hit C#. Some pilots may actually use camber like this but then again some people may possibly only hit one key on the piano and decide that is ok for them too :) I personally prefer the option of tuning my camber perfectly for the lift I am currently in. Then you realize that camber at the expense of not being able to support a launch preset just blows this radio out of the water for anything in the soaring arena aside from maybe RES I have an RD8000 and two Stylus's (styli?) Anyways I would just love to keep flying Airtronics but it appears that the engineers are really not paying attention when they write the code for these radio's. This is my last season on an Airtronics TX RX which is sad to say because I really like this radio (stylus). I think the greater of the soaring community would still be flying Airtronics as well if they would just pay a little closer attention to these details. [RCSE] US F3J Team Jackets/Hats Available with correct URL
Team jackets and hats are now available for ordering. We are going to place the team order on Saturday, so if you order now you can be included in the first batch. I only have a picture of the base jacket without the logos on it available on the website. The jackets are dark blue with grey collar. They are actually quite lite, but the picture makes them look heavier and warmer than they really are. For those that care it is a Port Authority brand JP54 jacket. The hats will be a khaki color for cool summer use, with the team logo on the front. As soon as I have the first ones done I will take some better pictures for the website. Re: [RCSE] Painting moulded fiberglass fuse
Rich, It sounds not like paint but instead surface prep, that is causing the beading. Fiberglass fuselages especially those not painted in the mold will have some sort of release agent used in the molding process to get the part out and not damage the mold. Prior to doing any work on a new Fiberglass fuselage the part must be washed with detergent and water, and then wiped with a rag that has a mild solvent on it. Use gloves especially if you might have kids in the future. Now get one of those flexible sanding pads and scuff the surface of the fuselage. Medium and Fine grades should do the trick. Make sure and pay particular attention where you might tape the wings or canopy. You are done when the shine is gone on the fuselage. If you see small imperfections this is a good time to use a polyester putty like Evercoat to fill and fair them. Now wipe the fuselage with Solvent again, and mask off any areas that need to be protected. If an excellent finish is required use a polyester spray primer, needs touchup gun and compressor, wetsand with 240 and then hit with auto paint, poly urethane finishes or epoxy are tougher and heavier. If you have none of the above use a spray can Primer misted on in several coats. Resist the urge to spray it in one coat. Spray outside where you can see the work and not breathe the fumes. Preferably the next day wet sand the fuselage with 320 wet and dry to take the fuzz off. Suspend the fuselage long ways horizontal nose to tail and mist on a color coat. Start the spray before the fuselage and release the nozzle when you are off the end of the fuselage, this gives even coats with no runs. 2-3 light coats will prove superior to one coat blasted on. Good luck Larry **Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food. (http://food.aol.com/dinner-tonight?NCID=aolfod000301)
RE: [RCSE] Painting moulded fiberglass fuse
I agree with 99.994% of what Larry suggests. I've had some issues removing the release agent of the fiberglass and have had to resort to sanding it down with a 240 grit dry then use a solvent.Beyond that you have great advice here. Re: [RCSE] Painting moulded fiberglass fuse
Hi Richard, The exact reason this happening is because of silicone in the release agent. So keep anything with silicone away from what you are painting... This is especially true of WD40. One small spray of WD40 in the room and it will find your plane... If the problem persist they have special silicone removers at automotive paint stores.
