Well now let me see. The Socal Paddler Bingham wants to get his paddle back
on May 5 so he can spank the NorCal boys 2 weeks earlier. Bragging that u
can fly so fast as to go back 2 weeks in time is quite a claim, not atypical
from that neck of the woods (pun intended).

Don't listen to 'em Daryl, they are just jealous northerners who worship
antiquated 70's slopers and skateboard style half pipe maneuvers. Those

   Hey Simon,

The hardcore slope racers from SoCal will
be attending the ISR, but you're right
about the DS Fest. They pretty much just
DS foamies down south and Dieter just
won't tolerate that at his event. Kinda
girly I know. I've seen some decent SoCal
DS but rarely away from their home slope
   and never
   in
a competitive environment. The land of the
so called Manly Pilots Association and
birthplace of DS Sigh How things
   change.

But hey, we'll take you to school at
Blanco this year so you can spank
   them
SoCal boys should they grow some nads and
   show the following year!

   Hehehehehe,

   Craig

I think it is only fair to point out that
we around here know, and have experienced
   little, about DS'ing...except what we
have seen on Paul Naton's great videos.
We have done zero slope racing as well,
   MoM or otherwise...

Whip me, beat me, make me write bad

   However...we are master beer assimilaters
(somehow that sounds bad), and sorta(?)
familiar with tokes, (not toques - wore
these over my brainpan on the ski slopes
when they were in vogue, sirca the 70's),
and we do know how to go very fast. As my
   signature indicates, Cogito-Ergo-Zoom (I
   think, therefore, I go fast).

So, scuttlebutt sez there will be ZERO

The 2002 ISR (Unlimited MOM racing) is scheduled for May 4,5th at
 Davenport CA. (see http://sloperacing.com/schedule2002.htm )

Unfortunately I will not be able to CD the race this year due to a very
busy schedule. In order for this race to continue its very long time
tradition someone else is going to have to step-up. This would be an
easier task if multiple people would coordinate the effort (advertize
and sponsor, trophies, registration, CD's Workers, and workers raffel,
 etc...)

If you are interested in assuming a role please let me know - I will do
what I can to help. If no one responds by 2/22/02 I will have to cancel
 the race

[RCSE] Ellipse 2V and Ellipse 2ET for sale

2002-01-30 Thread Barry Baskin

This is a must have for pilots who love to fly all day, no matter the
conditions.
Perfect F3F racer or all around sloper. I am selling this with an
additional Ellipse 2ET, the electric fuse. The electric fuse is a T-Tail,
very few of these were made. The 2V is a yellow fuse, wing is yellow top/
purple bottom and it has Ellipse 2 on the upper wing. It has hitec 85 MG's
throughout. Slimline Rx and 5 cell 1100mah pack. It has the usual minor
scratches under the wing. Nose cone has scratches from landings. Otherwise
in perfect shape.
Also included is an electric fuse for those days when the gliders are
grounded. This Ellipse 2ET, T-tail fuse, brushless Kontronic motor, speed
controller, Rx and Rx battery are all included. 2 specially made 12cell
Nicad zapped 2400mah packs included. Fuse has damage from some crashes, all
solidly repaired. This plane goes up like a rocket and the pack gives u at
least 3 climb outs to speck height! The wing from the glider is simply
transferred
to the electric or vice versa. It is very easy to access the battery and
motor as the e-cone slips out of the e-fuse with a unique clip in bolt. This
is a must have for the sloper who hates being grounded in no wind
conditions.
As new the whole package would cost over $3000. Asking $1500 or best
offer for whole package. Shipping extra From Walnut Creek, California.

RE: [RCSE] REALLY STRONG wing joiners

2001-08-23 Thread Barry Baskin

Once my Mega-Millenium started to reach speeds in the 130mph range, the
specailly built double carbon joiners started to bend significantly. I
needed to find a solution and thankfully Doug's chromoly joiners are bomber.
As u saw from my report on the DS speed record, the wings were hardly
flexing at 176mph, and there were times it was going faster just that the
radar could not read at that angle.
I have now ordered joiners from Doug for my other DS toys as I know that
area of concern will no longer be such a high concern.

This message is intended ONLY for those poor souls that are
hopelessly addicted to that evil back side sort of flying known
as DS
I have built a limited number of CNC precision machined tool steel wing
joiners that have been hardened to 50-52 Rc.
The CF joiners for these sailplanes are pretty strong, plenty strong
for most average flying conditions. They will also break in a really
hard landing to save other parts of the sailplane. When CF fails, it
breaks all the way with little perceived warning. You DS junkies know
what I mean.
Daryl Perkins and Barry Baskin have custom joiners in some of their
planes. Ask them if these are any good.
These steel joiners also add the extra mass you might want when
DS'ing in extreme conditions.
I guarantee that something else will break before these joiners fail.
You may blow a spar, a stab, or whatever, and you'll pull the intact
joiner from a smoking crater on the backside of Parker Mountain, but
you won't break this joiner.

Cobra Calypso$85
Wizard Compact $85
Scar $85
Hades 2 (2 small tip joiners) $85
Brisk 2$100
(coming very soon, this one takes more work)

[RCSE] Scar for sale (price reduced)

2001-03-12 Thread Barry Baskin

The slopes I fly on don't deserve a beauty like this and to avoid abusing
her, am hoping someone can offer her a good green field and much love.

Scar. (hardly flown) A real beauty, radical design, made by Heinrich like a
with swiss army knife precision, it is fast and breathtaking to fly, will
thermal very easily and signals lift very well. Check it out at
www.shredair.com. electronics were all
Factory installed, has 6 voltz, 2 micro max in fuse and 4 wing max in wing
, an airtronics pcm stylus receiver and
1400 MaH battery. Includes custom scar carrying bag with logo. Has 6 custom
made ballast tubes which, if used altogether add over 55ozs of weight.

Has a very small indent on one wing, hardly visible, small crack in cone
(repaired), but in otherwise perfect condition. Yellow fuse and tops, black
bottoms, green tips. This will cost u over $1600 new. My price $950 without
electronics, $1300 with all electronics. Shipping from Walnut Creek extra.

RE: [RCSE] Re: Opinions (response to last weeks post)

2001-02-09 Thread Barry Baskin

As a newcomer to this sport (15 months) it is with dismay that I noticed the
posts of Larry Jolly, aired by his choice in a public forum. I understand
that he is a very talented pilot. Our sport has many talented pilots like
most sports have their athletes. What we need from my little observation are
more quiet ambassadors for our sport, people who give time, energy and
instruction back into the sport while also representing our country in a way
that will make all of us proud.
From this distance Joe appears to be all that and so much more. In fairness
to Larry, whom I have never met, I don't know much except the postings speak
volumes. I will keep an open mind tho and hope this venting of some grudge
clears the air.
Now why don't u both agree to settle the issue of competition and beating
each other on the undisputed king of difficult and ability testing courses?
A man on man DS race at Parker, 5 rounds, no throwouts? Loser eats true
crow? Spectator fees to watch this matchup will be donated to agreed on team
causes.
Further words on the exchange are hardly the way to go.

Joe,
I prefer to let this post die a Happy death. My opinions are my own. For
your
information what started that post was Sal's maligning the Europeans. The
fact of the matter is that he stated that you now had the ultimate F3J Toy,
and Daryl had the ultimate TD Toy and also the next F3B winner. Just for the

record you must know about that post from Sal after all you found mine. But

with out that reference you can stick to attacking me ,right. So Joe how can
Sal make those statements, they are not fact. Your model has never been in
an
F3J meet, and Daryl's Super Fletcher hasn't even got the molds polished out
yet. That was blatant self promotion for SAl and his boys and is not
factual. Don't you ever get self righteous and condemn me for being part of

the old F3B wars. It was your club not mine that started the barrage of
Techno advantage wars in that game. As far as a friendlier group involved
now, is that what you call that little bit of Rules twisting you, and your
Win at any costs team mates pulled at the last team trials. You guys cheated

and your little philosophical comment about fighting it out in the air made
me laugh out loud. Your buddy Daryl even got so blatant as to say that if
Randy had been the CD he wouldn't have got away with it. Got away with what?

I thought what you guys did was legal, right. No, Joe, it is you with the
problem not me. The fact is that you and Daryl treat people poorly, it is
true that Daryl is far more of a user than you are. I know that I am on
your
list and that when the chips go don't fall in my favor that you will
secretly
chuckle at my score. The simple fact is that after years of experience with
you and Daryl I prefer not to be a friend. Personally I find you people
contrary to the way I want, to live my life. I wish you the best, but do not

support you in any of your endeavors. If there is a competition that I can
use my limited abilities to compete against you, I will. Since all you live
for is the challenge of the hunt it means so much more when I read Jolly in
front of Wurts. I am not taking any abuse from you, if you want to go
public,
bring it on. Larry

RE: [RCSE] Service in the Soaring World....NSP

2000-01-12 Thread Barry Baskin

Let me say that the service I get from Sal has always been good. When I was
a beginner he helped me choose correctly and when he is busy he always
suggests a call back, when I do get his attention. The are only a handful of
people out there who are qualified to give the kind of advice Sal can and
does give, when he is not pressured. If your ego needs strokes above the
facts, perhaps his talents are wasted on u.
At the height of his season, I once wanted a HLG shipped that day by
overnight fedex (this was at 4pm his time), he made the effort, got the
package off that day, and I got it the next day, so was able to take my HLG
on vacation. Would anyone else out there do that for meI doubt it.
Whatever one's preferences are, knowledgeable, qualified people in our sport
are in short supply, I for one don't want Sal (or any of the other experts)
to close their doors. It would be a loss for us all, even if u don't choose
to deal with a particular supplier.

With all the bashing of Sal I had to step in. And no not to defend him :).

I think sometimes we in soaring forget what great service we do get from
some
of the companies we deal with. I think Sal gives service that is "average"
or slightly below for the (radio control) industry at large. I think that
most of the time in soaring we get much better service than anyone in the
other disciplines would expect. This is probably partially due to the small

size of the soaring world, partially due to the great people this sport
attracts. Try calling Tower Hobbies and asking a question. More often than

not they cannot even begin to answer the question. I have received
exceptionally great service from Karlton at multiplex and Darwin at Garrison

Aerodrome. I would happily go back to them in a heart beat. Bob Dodgson
would answer questions (many dumb no doubt) endlessly without even a
whimper.
I have ordered things from Sal; wasn't impressed with the service, and
appalled by the packaging of my airplane. As a result I probably won't
order
from him again. However, I also know that Sal does have many airplanes
others do not. He also supports the sport in many ways. If his service and

personality bothers one that much don't order from him. Eventually if
enough
people decide to not order from him the business will close. Hopefully by
the same token businesses like Multiplex and Garrison Aerodrome will
prosper.
No one need get all bent out of shape on the list. After all its a hobby,
possibly a sport; if its stressful its pointless.
