[RCSE] Good Guy Alert
As a scratch builder I never really enjoyed cutting foam cores. It is time consuming and the quality of my cores were never as perfect as I would like therm to be. That is when Les Horvath from www.compufoamcore.com came to my rescue. I've been getting foam cores from him for years now and every time I get a new set it surprises me how accurate and well packed you get them. Few days ago I ordered a few sets of hand launch wing cores but I wasn't clear to Les about the airfoil I had in mind. After I got the cores and a quick phone call Les already had new sets coming my way, apologized for his mistake which was clearly my fault and even gave me a few surgical blade. Good product, good service, good guy. Thanks Les. Glauco RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Laser Arts retriever plans
Hi Kevin, I built three of them last year for the club and they do work fine. The only change from the plans was to add more bolts to the frying pan. Think I added three times the amount of bolts suggested but I might have chosen a too soft pan. Hard to tell when you buy them ; ) Also if I was going to build them again I would use a bigger diameter aluminum plate. Probably 2" or 3" more since depending of the operator the line may get caught behind the plate. I don't know if I used the listed pulley sizes but with a longshaft they retrieve really fast. So much we fly MOM contests with only one winch now. Get everybody in line and launch one after the other whit in 10 to 15 seconds. Re: [RCSE] I need a few micro receivers. What's the current favorites?
I don't know which shift you are looking for but to me the JR 610 UL is a real winner. 6 channel, only 7 grams, end pins and really small. It has been working on my hand launch for months without any perceivable problem. See it here http://www.jrradios.com/ProdInfo/Files/jrpr610ul-manual.pdf http://www.jrradios.com/Products/Support.aspx?ProdID=JRPR610UL** I got mine from Johnny Berlin. He had the best price around and I ordered it along a JR base loaded antenna on a Friday and thought he was kidding once he said I would get it the next day. Saturday the standard shipping package was at my door. [RCSE] Re: Switch Harness Problem
Thanks to all who answered my questions about the switch harness. Apparently there are more problems with them that I was aware. In summary if you are using a switch harness try to get a good one. The deluxe JR switch was mentioned on several emails as a good model. <http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByCategory/Product/Default.aspx?ProdID=JRPA001> The funny story was other than the battery pack and the harness everything else in the crashed plane was JR. I had one of the above switch at home without use but saw no reason to replace the brandless one that failed. I know better now. Hope to see you all in Cincinnati. The forecast is looking good for the weekend. [RCSE] Switch Harness Problem
Guys, My beloved Artemis got to the end of his soaring life this weekend at a club contest after what appears to be a switch harness failure. I'll describe what happened and see if someone can help me. The plane was a V tail Artemis with 6 x 368 JR servos, JR 770 PCM receiver, 1750 mAh 4 cell NiCad pack from Servocity and was ballasted with 8oz bringing the total weight to 76 oz. We were flying a MOM contest with brand new 290 line, brand new 12 V deep cycle batteries and new injoy 6 volt motors on real balls (as powerful as it can get :-). The wind was 10 to 15 miles. First launch went ok and I maxed it (10 m) and blew the landing. On the second launch at the mid of the launch the plane started to spiral down like if something was hanging on the plane (no retrievers) but it released from the line from about 100 ft and kept flying like if nothing happened. I even did some circles and got some landing points. I then checked all that I could on that specific winch and in the plane. All servos moved, had good range check, the charge on the battery was good so decided to fly the last round. On this launch the plane veered slightly left and popped off at 50 ft. After that I had no radio control and it spiraled down to earth. Inspecting the wreckage I could see the servos were not moving with radio inputs. The first thing I noticed was the switch harness quit working. When I plugged the battery directly to the radio everything worked fine. So at home after checking the wiring on the switch harness here is a link to a picture of what I found http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=371701#post3758917 Apparently the circuit board blew like if it was a short but I don't know how that could happen. The plastic case has no marks. I don't know the brand of the harness but it had the Futaba J plugs so it could be Futaba original or maybe Hitec. So my question is could the current load on launch blow the harness? I've heard it could get to several amps on launch and I don't know how these harness' are rated. Maybe it got a weak spot on the first troubled launch but still worked without the launch loads and at the last launch it blew like a fuse. Any other theory? I can see the guys that will be in Cincinnati next weekend are all happy (Gordy being one of them) since they won't have to fly against the plane that won the 04 OVSS sportsman class. Anyway I'll be there with the Organic so beware of a 2 m and flying as master now ;-) Glauco MVSA RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Re: "Barry Kennedy Vrs Others..a personal experience"
Well, I ordered an Organic from Barry almost a month ago but I knew it wasn't in stock. He then received them from Vladimir but some fuses had a problem which he offered to ship me anyway so I could fix and fly until a new one could be shipped without charges. I could then keep both fuses. Barry later figured out the mini Graphite fuse is basically the same as the Organic with the exception of the rear wing bolt. For my trouble to drill a new hole in the fuse, which is a 2 minute job he sent me also lots of free goodies, which certainly put him in a loss for this sale. So I must say the shipment wasn't as fast as I wanted but Barry went well beyond his duties to get my little toy plane the way I wanted. By the way he also got the color I wanted what I would say is surprising for a plane that was in the unobtanium list no long ago. If you don't know what is an Allegro take a look here. http://www.charlesriverrc.org/articles/allegro2m/markdrela_allegro2m.htm http://www.charlesriverrc.org/articles/allegrolite2m/markdrela_allegrolite2m.htm This is not one of the kits put together by the Allegro Yahoo list members some years ago. This one I bought or fabricated the parts to build two Allegro composites (not build-up wing). I ended up building only one for a friend and the ready to fly weight ended up been 21oz. Here is a picture. http://www.tailboom.com/gallery/tailboom/010103a Here is the list of parts. Everything is per plans (the spar is the same of the Allegro-lite per Mark's suggestion with an additional layer of .007 uni carbon to the bottom) Carbon Joiners Carbon Tail boom (from tailboom.com) Carbon V-mount Carbon Rear joiner pin All carbon caps Carbon pushrod for elevator Music wire pushrod for rudder Kevlar pod All balsa, hardwood and plywood for the composite version (fuse bulkheads, fuselage reinforcement, rudder, elevator, spar core and joiner boxes) Miscellaneous items like wing bolts, Kevlar tread, Kevlar tape. Hi Load 40 mid and center foam cores Foamular 150 tip cores The airfoils are the original composite ones AG-16, 17, 18 and 19. I have a picture of what is in the kit here http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/glauco/allegro.html All these parts can be used instead to build the lite version (built-up wing) if you prefer. Just pitch the foam cores and order for $12.80 a rib set from Laser Arts ( http://www.laserartco.com/short.htm ). You will need some more balsa but they are easily find at your local hobby shop. Asking $150 plus shipping. Money orders, personal checks or Paypal are fine. Glauco [EMAIL PROTECTED] RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] nagging 9303 issue
I flew with a Futaba 8U for several years and forgot to activate the landing switch only few times but now I'm a happy owner of a 9303 and decided to try something different. What I'm doing is having the landing flaps and flap-elev mix always on and assigned to the throtle stick. The right lever sets the amount of launch camber using two linear mixes with the Aux 4 channel. The left lever is used to camber changes during the flight. So right now I have only one switch to change from launch to cruise (I'm using the top right switch behind the trainer switch). If I wanted to actually use a landing mode to change trims and expos it still could be done but the way it is if I forget to flip the landing switch most of the landing functions would still work. Re: [RCSE] Fall Round Up and OVSS Final Standings-Thanks JR Radio
I also would like to thank JR / Horizon / John Diniz for their support and generosity. Can almost call myself a sponsored JR pilot. Flying the OVSS as sportsman this year I won four 368's digital servos plus a new 9303 radio. And it is not only the TX but the complete sailplane system with a really nice and small PCM receiver, three 368's, charger, switch harness and battery. Add to this some other prizes like shirts, hats and coolers and the total dollar comes close to $1,000. Wow. And what a nice radio. If you had not a chance check the 9303 tour at Horizon's web site http://www.horizonhobby.com/Tours/# There you can see a nice video with John Adams about the sailplane features of this radio. Also would like to thank Marc Gellart for convincing me to try one of the OVSS contests. Was really afraid but what I found was a bunch of really nice guys ready to help anytime and an amazing level of flying. Had a chance to get fantastic timers/callers like Don Harris, Jonny Berlin, Martin Doney and many others. I won't miss any of next year's OVSS contests (now as a master ; ) Glauco MVSA St. Louis > > In our inaugural year of holding a Sportsman Season Championship, a St. > Louis flier was our winner, Glauco Lago.
