Re: [RCSE] Epoxied servo techniques

2006-03-02 Thread Stephen Syrotiak
I made a plastic plug that matched the Airtronics servos I used to use.
Greased the plug and set it into a thick mess of epoxy and microbaloons.
Wait for the epoxy to cure, yank the plug, pop in the servo using wood
shavings to insure immobility.

Worked great.

If you do this, don't forget to allow room for the servo arm and a wire
chase.

Oh c'mon! For me, Mr. Subaverage, the homebuilt Ford L/S with 200m of 200lb
mono. ONLY way to go! Launches as high or higher than "club"winches with
braid.

We don't need no steenkin' retriever! It's only a lousy 200m. If you're
flying alone or with widly spaced winches, it can be a shorter walk than
that.

By the bye, Mr. Subaverage is an overweight 72 yr old...
Again, build an el cheapo winch and load it with mono. Watch that moldie
zoom!

We have a readily available winch motor in the Ford long shaft used from
the first model Fords till 1966. > > The sucker weighs a ton and the

Ouch. 300m to the turnaround. (FAI is merciful only 200m)
So now we need a retriever.

Hi Gordon,
Thanks for your believable theory. I've flown my Escape right off the
beach in S. CT wondering all the time what the hell kept it up, at near
spec height. The plane was probably right over the water's edge and
flying like it was in wave. i.e. just hovering at windspeed. I
couldn't believe it was a wave at the time. Surface WS were only 10-12
kt. This happened many times and I landed only because I got bored and
needed an aerobatic fix.

As I recall, we met at the soaring symposium last Mar. or April. How's
that ugly airplane (mantis) of yours doing? :)

If one were to adjust the polyhedral in a wing, so that each break angle

I've done this many times on a wide variety of gliders.

It works very well, provides a gapless, smooth surface which is
practically indestructible.

However, I have found that the mating faces of flying surfaces be sealed
and as smooth as possible. The silicone likes sticking to (smooth)
surfaces. This is unlike applying paint where a little "tooth" is
needed.
