How To Communicate with RCSE using AOL: There are a lot of good points in this thread, but the main one is left out. To send a TEXT ONLY message using AOL, which you have to do to subscribe or unsubscribe to RCSE, and which you should also use when posting on RCSE to avoid having your message followed by several onscreen meters of gibberish that readers have to scroll through (while grinding their teeth), just RIGHT CLICK on the message box when you are composing the email and SELECT Compose As Plain Text at the bottom of the list that comes up. That's all there is to it. In particluar, it is best to add a line with just end to make sure signatures don't get confused. Arne Ansper wrote: On Fri, 17 Mar 2006, D.S. wrote: Thanks for the info Phil. [RCSE] Re: subscribing
Mark Thank you very much for the help, but with my level of experience with computers that all went right over my head. I am on AOL and it is easy to use and works very well for me except in this one situation. Some day I will understand why experienced computer pros dislike AOL so much. RC Groups is easily accessible for me and is AOL friendly, so I will spend my time there but I may look around here every once in a while even if I can't subscribe. Dean -- D.S. Thanks for the info Phil. That doesn't work for me either. I did manage to contact the guy, but I had to call a friend of mine who is subscribed to get the email info. I have only had a computer for a couple of years, and with what I have learned in that time I can't figure out this whole RCSE thing at all. Seems like there are quite a few hidden tricks to learn. Both of my friends that I contacted about this that are subscribed told me that they wish that they could figure out how to get themselves unsubscribed because it sometimes fills up their mail boxes but they don't know how. RCGs is much easier to deal with!! Dean -- D.S. [RCSE] Re: subscribing
From the RCSE web site: Subscriptions This list is managed by an automated mailing list management program called Post.Office. To be added to this list, simply send a message with the form: subscribe by email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Make sure you turn off MIME and HTML formatting and put subscribe in the first line of the message. You can request additional information by sending a message with the line help and learn about the commands the mailing list understands. To remove yourself from the list, send a message to soaring-request@airage.com containing unsubscribe Also from the footer to the digest message version of RCSE Please note that subscribe and unsubscribe messages must be sent in text only format with MIME turned off. Email sent from web based email such as Hotmail and AOL are generally NOT in text format If you have trouble with email based lists, you probably need a real email program. A very good free one is Thunderbird from www.mozilla.com. Lots of people that use a web mail interface supplied by their ISP can actually use a real email program instead. Check your ISP's support web site or shoot them a mail or even a phone call. It is quite likely they can tell you how to set it up. If you are using Hotmail or Aol, you will need this extension to Thunderbird (You need the extension because these web based mail programs use non standard email interfaces) http://webmail.mozdev.org/index.html It also works for mail.com, Yahoo mail and a couple of others. It claims to work for gmail, but I know my son uses gmail through Thunderbird without needing the extension. There is setup help at the webmail site to walk you through a Hotmail setup. If you are a Hotmail user, you can also get a semblance of a real email program by using Outlook or Outlook Express. Not as good as Thunderbird, but they will get the job done. Outlook and OE will work with Microsoft's non standard Hotmail inteface. Mark Holm [EMAIL PROTECTED] RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Re: subscribing
Is it necessary to subscribe to RCSE to contact another guest user? I would like to contact Peter about the Extreme he is selling in the other thread. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=490366 He requested that interested parties contact him by email but he did not post his email address. I have tried many times to subscribe to the RCSE but have had no success. Thanks Dean -- D.S. - Original Message - From: D.S. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Is it necessary to subscribe to RCSE to contact another guest user? I would like to contact Peter about the Extreme he is selling in the other thread. I just went to the RCSE archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/soaring@airage.com/maillist.html I scrolled down until I found the for sale post that you referred to and clicked on it to get this post: http://www.mail-archive.com/soaring@airage.com/msg100991.html Scroll down to the bottom of the post and click where it says to send an email to Peter and you get an email window with his email adress: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I don't think you need to subscribe to do that. You just need to know the link for the RCSE archive. Phil RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
