Re: [RCSE] Servo question

2008-01-03 Thread Skip Miller

Hi Daryl,

I solely fly AIRTRONICS servos, except if I purchase a used airframe.((As an
O.E.M, I sell them in aircraft as well) I have flown many of 091 servos in
all sorts of different and complex models. From Hlg, Dlg, aerobatic foamies
and electrics. I have used over 100 of these in different configurations. My
latest is in a DS model I market that typically goes 185mph as an
electric. It has 091's all around. I have a mini Ellipse electric that I
also run 091's through out, and has historically been flawless. When
Airtronics began the quest for development of a small , accurate glider wing
servo to replace the very popular 141 for sailplanes, we went through many
iterations that were not as successful as hoped for unil the very popular
761 digital was released (501,555,556,557 were all some what unsatisfactory
attempts). In my frustration, I kept saying to the development team.. why
can't we make it as good as the 091. I have literally beat on them in the
hlgs and foamies, and electrics, and never so much as stripped a gear. They
are reasonably fast for their size, are small, light, and very accurate. I
have heli buddies who switched from perceived better servos in the T Rex
size helis to all 091's and the digital 761 on tail rotor, and all are
converted from the popular marketed. Recently , with AIRTRONICS being
exclusively distributed by GLOBAL, the price has come down significantly,
and are now a great value as well. I run these servos on the Topaz spoilers
.(they won Visalia and Pheonix in the model) With that said, I wouldn't
risk this small servo in a competition unlimited ship on ailerons due only
to surface area, even if they are split. My guess, you would be under sized
for the application you describe. Also the long servo arm is not strong
enough for your application. I'd take the weight hit and put in 761's all
around and launch it and land it in nomal competition fashion. On my web
site I have stated for years that the 091 servo and 515 Airtronics Rx
isAIRTRONICS best kept secret... that message still stands. The Airtronics
091 servo is great in the realm for which it was desi gned .

Good luck,

Skip

Subject: [RCSE] Servo question

Hey guys,

Quick question for those of you servo experts. I fly solely Airtronics
equip - servos, radios, receivers... I don't pay attention to any other
manufacturers products. My Stalker utilizes a 6 servo wing. 761's are
good for the flaps, but for the 4 ailerons, 761's are overkill. I can
use them, and they'll fit, but I don't want to carry the extra weight.
Airtronics has a 94091Z Super Microlite Servo. The torque ratings are
fine for my purpose. Does anyone have experience with these? Centering?
Gear train? Etc??? What other servo from any other manufacturer in this
size and weight might you guys recommend and why?

For reference:
Weight: 0.32 ounces
Size:0.91 x 0.44 x 0.87
Torque (6V): 23 In oz.
Speed 60deg (6V): 0.10

Re: [RCSE] Servo question

2007-12-31 Thread George
I have two 94091Z servos for spoilers on a RES ship. After a short period
of time one stopped working. After I removed it from the wing it appeared
that the servo overheated and melted the housing, it had shrunk in one area.
I replaced it with another 94091Z and it has worked for several months
without any failures.

[RCSE] Servo question

2005-02-08 Thread Marta Zavala
I am looking for a couple of thin wing servos. I know JR has a digital thin
wing servo,
cant remember the number, very much similar to the Hitec 5125. I have heard
it is the same servo, made by the same people, but with different
electronics. Is that true? Just wondering because I know the 5125 gears
strip easily, was wondering if the JR version does also.
Thanks, Walter

RE: [RCSE] Servo question

2005-02-08 Thread John Ensoll
Gidday all,
I can confirm that the gears on the 5125 do strip easily, Just a firm
landing and the weight of the Flap was enough to strip both flap final
gears.
Investigation showed that the final gear was aluminium which to my mind is
far too soft for the job it has to do.
It would be nice to hear from someone that the JR final gear is at least
Brass and not subject to failure. I too, await the definitive info.

I should order a couple and try them out...

They look like nice aileron servos, but I don't think I would use them for
flaps.

I've had them on my Pike Superior flaps for ~1-1/2 years, without a
single problem.

Excellent... I still like 368's for that application, I have the space for
them.
